KRYTAC KRISS® Vector GBB SMG

KRYTAC
Code:

  • Full metal construction
  • GBBR - Plenty of recoil and realism
  • Licenced trademarks from KRISS®

If you are kicking yourself for not buying one of the KWA GBB Vectors when they were available, you are in luck. The KWA version may be long gone, but Krytac has its own GBBR KRISS® Vector and it is finally here!

The Krytac KRISS® Vector is constructed predominantly from high-density fibre-reinforced polymer with an aluminium skeleton beneath, giving it low weight and absolutely unbeatable rigidity. Being a GBB platform, the Krytac Vector handles the same way as the real deal, with ambidextrous fire selector switches, a fully functional charging handle and a ferocious gas blowback action, pumping out dramatic clouds of gas along with immersive recoil with each shot.

Unlike more conventionally designed GBBRs, the Krytac KRISS® Vector has a remarkably lightweight bolt carrier which cycles in the realistic “super-V” style; up and down instead of forward and backwards. This means better gas efficiency than equivalent platforms, more controllable recoil and a higher rate of fire, hitting out at up to 17 rounds per second. EPIC!

The HOP-up unit is adjustable, as we might expect, but this is a TDC HOP-up unit which uses VSR-10 pattern HOP-up rubbers and inner barrels, giving you access to the very best in the precision inner barrel and HOP-up rubber aftermarket. TDC units are the most effective type of HOP-up available, providing direct pressure to the upper surface of the HOP-up rubber, effectively eliminating side-to-side shot deviation. If you're searching for a GBB primary which is as much of a statement to look at as it is to shoot, the KRYTAC KRISS® Vector GBBR is the unconventional platform you need!

Description

If you're in search of a GBB SMG at the cutting edge of modern firearms design, the KRYTAC KRISS® Vector GBB SMG is one to watch. Based on the real steel KRISS® Vector (previously known as the TDI Super-V), this innovative GBB SMG platform uses a realistic super-V recoil system, meaning the bolt moves up and down rather than back and forth. This results in impressive gas efficiency and an entirely unique firing experience, boasting an intense 17 rounds per second approximate rate of fire and hitting out at 330FPS +/- 10% using 0.2g BBs and V6 green gas.

As with other GBB platforms, the KRYTAC Vector works just like the real thing, with a functional charging handle, bolt lock and release catches and ambidextrous safety and fire selectors with the oh-so-enjoyable 2-round burst mode. While the AEG Version may be easier to skirmish with, the GBBR version is the one for the pros, making you work hard for every kill, choose your shots carefully and manage your ammo supply effectively under pressure. If you're an experienced skirmisher looking for a GBB platform to reignite your passion for the sport, the KRYTAC KRISS® Vector GBBR will definitely do it!

Starting at the front, we can find a knurled thread protector concealing 14mm CCW male barrel threads beneath. This is a lovely improvement over the previous KWA Vector GBB which used less common 16mm threads, allowing you to rock a suppressor or tracer straight away without the need for extra adapters. We all know how delicious a Vector looks with a suppressor!

Moving rearwards, we come to the receiver which is constructed from superb quality high-density polymer with an aluminium skeleton beneath. This gives the Vector the perfect combination of low weight and high rigidity and matches the real thing perfectly. As we might expect for a KRYTAC platform licenced officially by KRISS®, we are very well catered for when it comes to trademarks. On each side of the front of the receiver we have a recessed "KRISS" marking, the centre of the receiver features the iconic super-V logo which also appears on the grip baseplate and stock base and the serial number plate is just below the bolt catch, featuring your laser engraved unique serial number. The Vector certainly ticks all the boxes for realistic externals, just like its electrically powered sibling.

Running along the top of the receiver, we have plenty of 20mm Picatinny rail real estate, ready for your choice of aiming device. You could mount a red dot sight, magnifier and PEQ box to the Vector all at once despite its compact form; a testament to the modern design philosophy applied during the design of the real thing.

On either side, we have threaded holes for mounting additional KRISS Vector 20mm Picatinny rails, just in case the top rail isn't long enough for all your mission essential gizmos. At the 6 o'clock position, we're treated to another built-in 20mm rail, ideally used for a vertical or angled foregrip. Some angled foregrips are too long to mount to this rail, though they can be cut down at the rear as seen in some real steel reference photos.

The charging handle is located on the left side, folding flat against the receiver when not in use but extending considerably when folded out. This is a non-reciprocating charging handle, just like the real thing, avoiding the hassle of limiting your hand placement and allowing the popular C-clamp grip to be used with no smashed fingers. The charging handle needs to be pulled before the first shot, and after a reload you can rack the charging handle with a "power stroke" and bring the Vector back online, or use the functional bolt release catch.

The bolt release/hold open catch is just to the rear of the charging handle, well within reach of the reaction hand for right-handed shooters. The catch is well protected on all sides with a mag release fence moulded into the polymer shell, preventing accidental knocks from inadvertently locking or releasing your bolt. A seesaw-style lever, the front paddle of the bolt release/hold open releases the bolt when locked back and the rear paddle locks the bolt rearward when the charging handle is pulled, just like the real thing.

Below the bolt release/hold open catch we can find the magazine release on the left side of the magwell, a push button design with a textured surface for optimal grip. Like the bolt catch, the mag release is protected with a small fence, sitting slightly recessed inside to prevent mags being dropped as the Vector rubs against your gear. If you're right-handed you'll find the mag catch well positioned for fast access but it can still be used by left-handed shooters with a bit of practice. We aren't sure whether the Laylax extended magazine release fits the GBB Vector but as soon as we get our hands on one we will be testing it.

The fire selector lever is ambidextrous, present on each side in the middle of the receiver. This switch controls the fire modes only and does not include a safety function as the safety has its own lever just above the pistol grip. The selector switch offers semi-auto, 2-round burst and fully automatic with a 45-degree throw between each mode. The two-round burst mode is remarkably snappy and satisfying to use, cycling so fast the enemy team won't know what hit them!

While the selector isn't easy to access from a firing grip, it follows the same manipulation style as the legendary Thompson SMG; set the mode you want and leave it alone, using the separate safety lever to lock the trigger when appropriate. The safety lever is very well placed; just above the pistol grip sitting right beneath the shooter's thumb whether they are left or right-handed with an ultra-short 45-degree throw between safe and fire. This safety/selector configuration also has the advantage of preventing the selector from being bumped into full auto accidentally and getting you in trouble with the marshalls!

The pistol grip is an extremely comfortable design, featuring linear texture on the front and rear with crackle textured panels on each side, providing plenty of traction and a comfortable shape for multiple hand sizes. Inside the base of the grip, we are treated to a storage compartment with the HOP-up adjustment Allen key nestled inside a foam block to prevent rattling. Speaking of the HOP-up, its location may not be immediately obvious!

If you get eyes on your top rail, you'll notice a small hole on the 8th rail notch from the front. Insert your HOP-up adjustment key here to access the TDC adjustable HOP-up, adjusting for the flattest possible trajectory for your chosen ammo weight. The TDC style unit is widely known as the best type of HOP-up, designed to minimise side-to-side deviation and hold its setting well in the long term, even when used with heavy BBs.

At the rear, we have the KRISS® Vector Gen.II side folding stock, offering a small amount of length of pull adjustment for the grippy serrated butt plate via the grub screws on each side of the butt plate and side folding functionality so you can compress the Vector down for close quarters situations. The button to fold the stock is on the left side of the stock base and when folded, the stock locks firmly in place on the protruding lug, meaning you can run around like a bull in a china shop without your stock flopping around. For those who prefer to shoulder their primary at all times, the folding stock has the perk of allowing the Vector to fit neatly into smaller gun bags and hard cases.

If you're an experienced GBBR user looking for an SMG for CQB or you're ready to join the elite and run one of the most challenging and rewarding platforms out there, the KRYTAC KRISS® Vector GBB SMG will put a massive smile on your face. With flawless build quality, realistic KRISS® Vector trademarks and performance to match and exceed other more conventional GBB SMGs, the Vector GBB is as thrilling to shoot as it is beautiful to behold!

Special Instructions

This is a Gas Blowback Rifle. GBBRs require maintenance and careful handling and we do not recommend them for new skirmishers. Things to watch out for if this is your first GBBR:

  • The HOP-up adjuster for the KRYTAC Vector GBBR is inside the upper receiver and is accessible through the port on the 8th rail slot back from the front. Use your HOP-up adjustment tool stored inside the pistol grip to apply adjustments
  • GBBRs need to be cocked before the first shot, just like a GBB pistol. It is important that you do not double load a GBBR as this can break the nozzle. We recommend clearing the chamber of BBs with a cleaning rod in the event that you finish firing mid-magazine and the bolt does not lock back and show an empty chamber.
  • GBBRs generally use higher pressure gas than GBB pistols due to the extra weight of the bolt. We recommend Green Gas (NUPROL 2.0, VORSK V6, ASG Ultraair) for general use and Red Gas (NUPROL 3.0, VORSK V8) for cold weather use.
  • The faster you shoot a GBBR, the less accurate it will be. This is due to pressure variance as the gas reservoir cools down. Full auto is basically for fun, and these rifles run far better when used in semi-auto or two-round burst mode.
  • Like a GBB pistol, GBBR magazines require maintenance. We recommend leaving a small amount of gas inside the magazine when stored, and not storing the magazines in a cold or damp environment. Magazine seals and valves will need lubrication and to be kept clear of dust and debris.

When inserting a full magazine into the KRYTAC KRISS® Vector we recommend locking the bolt to the rear before insertion to reduce the chances of a nozzle jam. If a nozzle jam does occur (bolt back, nozzle stuck forward), simply push the nozzle rearwards to unjam it.

The fire selector switch of the Vector GBBR cannot be rotated when the bolt is locked to the rear. If you find the fire selector does not move readily, make sure the bolt is not locked back before applying any force.

The thread protector installed on the KRYTAC KRISS® Vector Gas Blowback SMG is attached with blue thread lock adhesive and is very difficult to remove. The thread protector can be removed with brute force, but we recommend if you are using a wrench to remove it you cover the thread protector with a cloth or tape to prevent damage and have a friend handy to hold the Vector down.

Alternatively, various solvents can be used to dissolve the thread lock adhesive. Removing the thread protector without damaging it will require the utmost care however you proceed. Any damage caused to the threads or thread protector during removal will not be covered by our warranty.

If you ever need to disassemble your Vector magazine for maintenance, you will need to follow these instructions. Please note, the tabs on either side of the baseplate do NOT allow the magazine to be disassembled, they are present for realism only:

  • Invert your magazine and drag the follower spring towards the feed lips using a small tool (Allen key etc.)
  • With the follower spring held in this position, you should be able to rotate the baseplate by 90 degrees counterclockwise with the feed channel facing you, after which the baseplate can be lifted free.
  • With the baseplate removed, you can then slide the polymer sleeve off the magazine body and access the gas reservoir via two pins.
