  • Full metal construction
  • 6.03mm Tightbore inner barrel
  • Tokyo Marui VSR-10 Pro clone

If you are looking for a cheap base gun for your dream sniper rifle build, this is ideal! The CYMA CM.701 Spring Bolt Action Sniper rifle is based on the popular R700 series of real steel bolt action rifles on the outside and is a clone of the Tokyo Marui VSR-10 Pro on the inside. The outer barrel and receiver are constructed from alloy and the stock is textured high density polymer, matching the metal proportions of the real thing perfectly.

On the inside, CYMA has generously added a 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel into the mix for improvements in accuracy and a slight FPS boost. Also present is a far stronger spring than in the Tokyo Marui version, the result of which is 500 FPS straight out of the box on a 0.2g BB. If you are building a beast of a sniper rifle, this would be a great start, just don't forget you will need an aftermarket 20mm Picatinny rail if you want to mount a scope!

Description

The Tokyo Marui VSR-10 was the base platform of choice for sniper builds for decades thanks to its wide aftermarket and superb performance straight out of the box. Nowadays, snipers prefer to base their build on cheaper alternatives like the CM.701, saving a few quid on the base gun so it can be reinvested in upgrade parts.

This rifle is a near-perfect copy of the Tokyo Marui VSR-10 Pro but comes with a 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel and a far stronger spring, hitting hard at 500FPS on a 0.2g BB straight out of the box. The barrel and receiver are constructed from alloy and the stock from superb quality high density polymer with a textured finish, giving the old TM a run for its money when it comes to build quality!

Starting at the tip of the 22-inch outer barrel, we have the front iron sight which is a flat blade-style sight which can be removed via the screw in its base. This rifle does not come with a scope rail, so we recommend leaving the front sight in place until you are ready to move up to a scope. There are several scope mount options available for this rifle, from the Laylax PPS10 VSR-10 20mm Picatinny/11mm Dovetail hybrid rail to the Slong Airsoft 20mm rail and many more, so that option is always available down the line.

The barrel itself is tapered towards the receiver, just like the Remington Model 700/R700 the VSR-10 is based on. In a real rifle, this helps improve handling by reducing the weight at the tip while maintaining superb accuracy thanks to its wide, rigid receiver interface, but for Airsoft this is merely an aesthetic choice to keep the rifle looking realistic.

Below the barrel, we come to the stock/chassis of the CM.701 which is constructed from high density polymer with a high-quality crackle-textured finish. This is a big step up from other VSR clone rifles which often have a smooth, shiny finish which screams "toy gun". The magazine release is at the front of the chassis, with the magazine well located just behind. In front of the magazine release, we are treated to a steel Harris-style bipod/sling stud, which can be used to mount either a Harris-style bipod or a sling loop. If you like to stay sneaky in game, we recommend running a loop of paracord through the slud to mount a sling instead of using a metal sling loop as this will eliminate rattle and allow stealthy players to perform at their best.

Moving rearwards, we come to the receiver which is constructed from alloy, with the rear iron sight mounted up top. The rear sight can be adjusted for both windage and elevation using an Allen key and is the open style of rear sight which allows for a great field of view so you can track moving targets more easily than with aperture sights. The safety catch is located on the right side, well within reach of the thumb when the rifle is held in a firing grip. The forward position is fire, marked with an engraved "F" and the rearmost is safe, marked with an "S". This safety is fantastic as it requires very little movement to disengage so you can avoid drawing the eye of an unsuspecting target in game!

The bolt handle is located at the rear of the receiver, on the right side. To cock the rifle, you will need to rotate the bolt upwards, draw it back as far as it will go, push it forward again and rotate it back into place to lock, just like a real bolt action rifle. The bolt handle is textured for added grip and is quite easy to pull for a 500FPS rifle, though at its current spring power, it may be difficult to cock for younger players.

Directly below the bolt handle we come to the trigger which is safely concealed inside the alloy trigger guard. The trigger is the typical curved type, designed to encourage proper finger positioning. The location of the trigger makes the CM.701 easy to shoot quickly despite its bolt action mechanism; similar to the old Lee Enfield rifles which were known for their ability to be fired extremely quickly.

Behind the trigger guard, we come to what is known as a "Semi-pistol-grip", the traditional gripping location for bolt action rifles. The grip is set at a comfortable angle for shooting both prone and standing, and the crackle texture finish of the stock aids grip so you can keep the rifle firmly in your hands, with or without gloves. The stock itself is a simple fixed stock with a rubber butt plate for optimal grip and a Harris-style sling lug at the toe, ready for sling swivels or paracord and your choice of sling.

On the inside, the CM.701 is generously equipped with a 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel straight out of the box along with a strong spring which produces around 500 FPS on a 0.2g BB. The tightbore should give you the edge in accuracy and will also increase FPS by a small margin thanks to improved air efficiency. Being at this power level, it is possible that this rifle will shoot too hot for UK skirmish sites unless the HOP-up has been adjusted. We recommend double-checking the joule limit for sniper rifles at your local skirmish site before ordering, just in case.

Whether it is for plinking in the garden or harassing the enemy team at long range in a skirmish, the CM.701 presents fantastic value for any budding Airsoft sniper. Whether you're using it as it is or upgrading it to the maximum, this affordable beast should serve you well!

Special Instructions

These table can be used as a reference to see if the BB weight you are using will be over acceptable Joulage limits at some Airsoft Sites in the UK. To check if the weight can be used chrono your weapon using the BB you intend to use, and then compare it to the chart.

FPS, Power and Joule Limits can vary from site to site, so please get in touch with where you're going to play with in advance to avoid disappointment.

Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, with a 350fps limit for Automatic Replicas, 400fps for Semi-Automatic Replicas, and 500fps for Bolt Action Replicas.

Tap the tabs below to open the relevant chart for your replica.

Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, and is the equivalent of 350fps, using 0.20g BB resulting in an upper limit of 1.14j.
