The M4A1 RIII™ is kitted out with perfect replicas of all the latest Daniel Defense furniture, including the M4A1 RIS III handguard, the "Grip-N-Rip" charging handle and the DD Buttstock. If you're a fan of full Daniel builds, you'll love this one!

Starting at the tip of the 14.5-inch outer barrel we can find a birdcage type flash hider pre-installed on the barrel’s 14mm CCW male threading. The birdcage design also goes hand in hand in terms of looks with the handguard, jutting out two inches ahead for a compact front end, and is the appropriate flash hider design for the real Daniel Defense M4A1 RIII™ rifle.

The handguard replicates the latest and greatest Daniel Defense handguard style, an evolution of the M4A1 RIS II quad rail handguard found on military-issue M4A1 Block II rifles used by US Army Rangers, US Navy SEALs and others. Known as the RIS III 13.5-inch, this handguard keeps the military-applicable aspects of the original M4A1 RIS II handguard, specifically the ability to remove the lower section and mount an M203 grenade launcher. In comparison, this new DD handguard boasts a slimmer profile and reduced weight thanks to its use of M-LOK negative space attachment slots instead of 20mm Picatinny rails.

M-LOK slots are present at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions with additional slots at the offset angles in the ideal position to mount a tactical flashlight and keep it tight into the weapon for reduced snagging. M-LOK slots allow M-LOK accessories to be directly mounted but you can also make use of 20mm Picatinny rail adapters for M-LOK if you have a preferred 20mm foregrip, flashlight, bipod or laser aiming module.

Like the original M4A1 RIS II, the RIS III handguard features a 20mm Picatinny rail on its upper surface which runs back to meet the receiver rail seamlessly, allowing for optical sights of practically any length to be mounted despite the short overall length of the M4A1 RIS III. Also present on the handguard are a pair of QD sling sockets, allowing for QD sling swivels to be mounted and paired with either the rear sling plate, QD sockets or footman loops on the stock to allow for a two-point sling.

Pre-installed on the top rail, we are treated to a set of flip-up aperture iron sights which can be deployed by pressing the button on the left side of each sight. The sights are fully adjustable for both windage and elevation and protected on each side with protective wings to keep the sights set properly despite any mid-battle bumps and scrapes.

Next up, we reach the receiver which is a stunning showcase of licenced Daniel Defense trademarks, flawlessly engraved and a perfect match for the real M4A1 RIII™. The left side of the upper receiver also includes a 5.56mm calibre marking in high-vis white laser engraving, together with the stylised M4A1 RIII™ logo at the rear. The dust cover, found on the right side, also features DD markings and is constructed from high density polymer to match modern weight-reduced dust covers found on the latest H&K HK416 rifles as well as Daniel Defense's DDMK18.

The charging handle is located at the top rear of the receiver, and as we might expect, is a licenced Daniel Defense design. Known as the "Grip-N-Rip", the charging handle is ambidextrous, with enlarged latches on either side allowing for flawless functionality whether you wear gloves or not.

Pulling the charging handle back will pop open the dust cover and reveal the mock bolt carrier with its DD trademarks. The mock bolt carrier will also lock to the rear, allowing access to the rotary HOP-up unit. This unit is constructed from alloy for increased strength, allowing you to tune the M4A1 RIII™ for your chosen ammo weight. Once your adjustment is complete, slap the "ping pong paddle" bolt catch on the left side to send the mock bolt home with a satisfying "clank".

The fire selector switch is located on the left side of the receiver, just above the pistol grip and is a standard M4A1 mil-spec design with a textured surface for optimal traction in wet weather. The selector provides 3 modes of fire; safe, semi-automatic and fully automatic, with a 90-degree throw between each mode. Being the Bolster Tuned DMR version, this DD M4A1 RIII™ is pre-locked to semi-automatic in both selector positions via the Gate ASTER MOSFET's optical sensors. The selector switch is one of the best aspects of the M4 design, easily accessible and fast to use with enough distance between modes that it isn't easy to knock out of position inadvertently.

The pistol grip of the Bolster Tuned M4A1 RIII™ has been replaced with the PTS Syndicate EPG grip, offering stronger polymer, a comfortable shape and a reliable, stress-free motor engagement angle. As much as we love the design of the DD Tornado grip, the PTS EPG is a more robust design and allows the motor height to be adjusted more precisely. More on this in the "Bolster Tuned M4A1 RIII™ DMR" section below!

The magazine release button is over on the right side of the magazine well, a standard M4/AR-15 push button release but compatible with aftermarket ambidextrous alternatives. The button is surrounded by a raised protrusion in the receiver, known as the "magazine release fence" and designed to prevent the mag release from accidentally being pressed as the M4A1 RIII™ rubs against your gear. Another great aspect of the AR-15 design, the magazine release is easily accessible from a firing grip, making for scorchingly fast reloads as long as you practice!

At the base of the buffer tube is an ambidextrous sling plate sandwiched between the receiver and the castle nut. This plate is constructed from steel to provide the prerequisite strength for use with a single-point sling. This sling point is ideal for a single-point bungee sling but can also be used with a two-point sling with the addition of a rail-mounted front sling point.

Following the sling plate, we come to the stock of the M4A1 RIII™ which is the usual M4/AR-15 format of a 6-position buffer tube with an adjustable sliding stock. The buffer tube is compatible with any M4/AR-15 AEG stock you choose to mount, but the pre-installed stock really is fantastic, there is no need to swap it out!

The stock replicates the real steel Daniel Defense Buttstock, a precisely manufactured stock designed to eliminate lateral wobble and add ergonomic enhancements for a more comfortable shooting experience. The sides of the stock are sloped, similar to a crane stock but feature rubberised pads on the surface for a positively luxurious cheekweld. A QD sling socket is present on either side, ready for QD sling swivels, and the stock also includes conventional "footman loops", aka sling slots for standard rifle slings. The butt plate is also deeply serrated for extra grip and shaped to allow for a high hold and a more intuitive head position when shooting.

Inside the stock, we can find the battery compartment which is accessible with the butt plate removed. To do so, simply press the rectangular EMG marked section in the centre of the butt plate and it will pop straight off. Inside, you will see a Deans battery connector to which you mount your chosen battery. You can make use of either the buffer tube itself for your battery if you use stick batteries, or the hollowed "cheeks" of the stock if you prefer a crane/nunchuck battery. We recommend an 11.1V 1300mAh LiPo in stick configuration to keep the trigger response high in this Bolster Tuned DMR version!

The Bolster Tuned EMG Daniel Defense M4A1 RIII™ DMR

As with previous Bolster Tuned builds (formerly known as Patrol Base X Gate ASTER edition), this isn't your usual upgraded AEG. The Bolster Armouries tech team fully disassemble each of these AEGs down to every screw, bolt and bushing to perfectly tune the internals, polish the piston tracks, bearing holes and tappet plate guides, shim the gears to absolute perfection and replace parts to address the weak points in the original platform.

In this, the first Bolster Tuned DMR, the cylinder windows are also radiused for maximum strength and the angle of engagement (AOE) has been corrected using a Bolster Armouries AOE Correction Washer to provide a long lifespan at higher performance parameters than the original build. Bolster Armouries EZO Bearings are also present, offering higher strength than the original ball-bearing bushings to ensure a lifetime of reliable performance.

The Bolster techs treat these AEGs like they are building them for themselves, and if it doesn't pass their rigorous checks, which include a 60m accuracy test, it goes back to the bench for more work.

The Gate ASTER™ V2 MOSFET system functions as the brain of the Bolster Tuned M4A1 RIII™ DMR, offering far more functions than the usual CYMA Platinum MOSFET present in the original along with improved reliability. The ASTER boasts programmable fire controls through the Gate Control Station app, Gate Blu-Link or Gate USB Link, adjustable pre-cocking for a ferocious trigger response in semi-auto, cycle timing control, adaptive active braking, adjustable trigger sensitivity, and voltage control, all of which combine to give this gorgeously built licenced replica a wealth of functionality that is hard to beat.

As you will receive it, the ASTER inside the Bolster Tuned M4A1 RIII™ DMR is set for semi-automatic only, in line with most skirmish site's DMR rules and tuned to 410 FPS +/- 10% on a 0.2g BB. Muzzle energy on the VORSK 0.36g BBs the Bolster Armouries team recommends is approximately 1.5 joules. 

Working in concerto with the ASTER is the Gate QUANTUM™ Trigger, a CNC machined flat trigger finished in discrete gloss black. The QUANTUM is specifically designed to be used with the ASTER, boasting adjustable trigger sensitivity with 470 different settings to choose from and over 60 settings just for the first millimetre of movement. 

The trigger chosen for the Bolster Tuned M4A1 RIII™ DMR is the 1A1 variant, a smooth-faced flat trigger with a slight forward angle and a wide trigger blade. This gives you the speed benefits of a flat trigger while keeping your finger firmly in place, avoiding slipping off while you slap away to keep the enemy at bay!

The motor installed is the Warhead Base 35K Brushless Motor, offering a super speedy motor which uses high strength, SH-rated Neodymium magnets. Being a brushless motor, the Warhead Base simply doesn't heat up as the only friction generated inside is with the air, keeping the grip nice and cool as you punch out with rapid 410 FPS shots. 

The 35K RPM variant was chosen for this DMR build to ensure the trigger response remains in the realms of the incredible despite the potent high-power spring inside. The pinion gear has also been replaced with an SHS Motor Pinion Gear to improve strength and longevity working with the phenomenal Warhead. The Warhead moves the Bolster Tuned M4A1 RIII™ DMR up to the next level of Airsoft performance and puts it hot on the heels of the full-fat Bolster Armouries ONYX, ARKOSE, ATLAS and OBIRE builds.

To ensure reliable feeding with heavy BBs at high velocity, the Bolster team installed the FPS Softair Carbon Fibre Reinforced Tappet Plate paired with an FPS Softair Reinforced Sector Gear Delayer. Ideal for a precise build which requires perfect nozzle alignment, the FPS tappet plate is constructed from carbon fibre-reinforced nylon polymer which has the perfect amount of rigidity and flex without being vulnerable to sudden fractures under heavy load as a conventional polycarbonate tappet might.

The tappet plate is an essential part when it comes to ensuring the AEG's internals are timed correctly and that feeding is smooth and constant. The FPS Tappet has an absolutely flawless shape and the perfect amount of strength while avoiding being so hard it becomes brittle. Its carbon fibre reinforced polymer gives it the edge in durability over every other tappet on the market. 

The original gear set was a 13:1 ratio high-speed set, ideal for high rate of fire builds but absolutely the opposite of what a DMR needs to maintain reliability. Enter the EG 18:1 Hard Gear Set from Laylax, a standard ratio gear set constructed from hardened steel. Laylax gears are known for their strength and precision, and the 18:1 ratio is ideal for DMR and standard AEG builds, especially when backed up by the Warhead 35K Base Brushless Motor. 

The Laylax EG Hard Steel Gear set runs on Bolster Armouries EZO Bearings to guarantee the perfect combination of strength and low friction. The EZO bearings allow the high-speed gears to spin freely at a tremendous rate with the monstrous torque provided by the Warhead Brushless Motor with minimal chances of failure, all while reducing stress on the gearbox shell and gear axles.

The Bolster team cannot touch an AEG without installing their favourite HOP-up rubber, the legendary "Prommy Purple". Also known as the Laylax/Prometheus Purple HOP-up rubber, this setup is based on the original Tokyo Marui design but comprised of more hard-wearing and temperature-resistant materials. 

The Prommy Purple is paired with the Maple Leaf OMEGA nub, a flat-style HOP-up nub designed with a concave contact surface, shaped to match that of a 6mm BB perfectly. The OMEGA provides HOP-up effect across the entire upper surface of the BB instead of just a single point in the centre, resulting in excellent side-to-side stability and a stronger HOP-up effect. As such, the Bolster Armouries team recommends running VORSK 0.36g BBs for optimal long-range effect on target. 

Finally, we're on to the ergonomic upgrades. The team chose the PTS Syndicate EPG Pistol Grip to replace the original Daniel Defense Tornado grip. While the original was a comfortable design and very authentic, the PTS grip is constructed from higher-quality polymer and allows the motor to be adjusted more precisely, an essential property for a finely tuned DMR AEG.

The EPG is constructed from Dupont Zytel, a high-strength, abrasion and impact-resistant thermoplastic polyamide/nylon, making it a significant step up from other high density polymers, even beating out the original EMG/CYMA pistol grip. With comfortable dot texturing on either side and crackle texture on the front strap and backstrap, the EPG is the perfect enhancement to ensure you maintain a positive grip on your M4A1 RIII™ DMR and allow the Warhead motor to engage properly with the Laylax EG Hard Gearset.
