  • Dial adjustable HOP-up with left-to-right tuning!

The ASG SAKO TRG M10 follows the ASG tradition of offering high end Airsoft sniper rifles with full real steel licencing as an alternative to the lightweight and skirmish focussed VSR style platforms. Equally at home in the hands of a sniper as it is in the collection of a skirmisher who values realism, this SAKO TRG M10 replica boasts full metal construction, a whopping 610mm long 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel and a unique dial adjustable HOP-up with a secondary screw to adjust the HOP-up from left to right!

The unique HOP-up system is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the innovative features of the ASG SAKO TRG M10 which benefits greatly from being based on a unique high end real steel precision rifle. As one would expect, the TRG has a CNC machined free-floated handguard, fluted outer barrel, ergonomic pistol grip and well designed ambidextrous controls, but what you might not expect is the functional loaded chamber indicator and fully adjustable trigger, bringing much sought-after real steel features into the Airsoft world. If you are a sniper with a desire to skirmish a highly realistic and fully licenced platform this is one of the best we have seen yet!

Description

Whether you are a die-hard sniper looking for a .338 style platform or a collector of high end officially licensed replicas the SAKO TRG M10 from ASG should meet the mark. Hefty and built like a tank but remarkably light for its size, the TRG boasts full metal construction with a CNC aluminium handguard and plenty of steel components, and is crammed full of innovative features and adjustability with the prerequisite size increase of a proper .338 Lapua precision rifle replica.

Starting at the tip of the seriously lengthy 27-inch outer barrel we can find a muzzle cap which conceals 14mm CCW male threading at the tip. This means if you want to further enhance the TRG's impressive length with a suppressor you can, or you can mount a tracer to assist with low light aiming. It's nice to see this feature included with a sniper rifle straight out of the box as we all know how much of a pain finding the correct thread adapter can be!

Moving rearwards from the muzzle cap/thread protector we come to a row of 3 ridges in the outer barrel, followed by straight fluting which goes all the way back to the wider section of the barrel as it meets the receiver. The profile of this ASG replica matches the real SAKO TRG M10 perfectly and the fluting looks fantastic with the added benefit that the grooves serve to reduce the weight of the barrel to make the rifle easier to point and transition between targets.

Surrounding the outer barrel we have a free-floated handguard constructed from CNC machined aluminium with 20mm Picatinny rails on the bottom and top and threaded holes along each side to facilitate mounting the included pair of 20mm side rails. The side rails can be positioned exactly where you need them, or you can leave them off entirely if you prefer a minimalist setup. As far as sniper rifles go, the TRG has a lot more accessory room than most which is owed to it being a replica of one of the most recent precision rifles to hit the market. The handguard also has weight-reducing ports machined in at the offset angles through which the barrel fluting can be seen, tying in with the high end looks of modern precision rifles.

The 6 o'clock 20mm Picatinny rail is a massive 28.5cm long, giving you plenty of room for your preferred vertical or angled grip and practically any bipod, with plenty of space to spare and loads of options as to where you position your bipod. The top rail is even longer, measuring 37cm before it meets the receiver rail which extends the total 12 o'clock rail length by a further 17cm for a total top rail length of 54cm! If you are the type who enjoys meme-worthy guns, this is the perfect platform to attach all the optics, lights and lasers you own and take a photo with the caption "low speed, high drag".

Between the 6 o'clock rail and the magazine well the TRG features a small polymer handguard which is at the perfect position to grip the rifle when shooting from a standing position. This handguard is also where you will find the dial of the adjustable HOP-up which has a nice tactile feel and adjusts in fine increments with clicks to denote each setting.

To make matters all the more interesting, there is also a secondary HOP-up adjuster in the form of a grub screw for a 2mm Allen key just ahead of the dial which adjusts the HOP-up for left-to-right trajectory tuning. The direction of adjustment is marked on the handguard with an arrow and L or R to indicate Left and Right. This could be a very handy feature for shooting in windy conditions but if you would rather adjust your optic to compensate for wind you can ignore the grub screw adjuster and stick with the dial to extend range and tune for different ammo weights.

As we reach the receiver we are greeted with an ultra-modern chassis style setup, with an alloy lower chassis skeletonised with waffle style texture for weight reduction and an alloy receiver in the classic bolt action style but with the cutting edge look and massive size any .338 Lapua rifle replica needs to maintain authentic looks. On the left side of the receiver, we are treated to authentic SAKO trademarks thanks to official licensing from ASG and the bolt release which can be removed to access the bolt of the SAKO TRG M10 (see the user manual for instructions). The magazine well is located on the lower receiver, and as with the Tokyo Marui M40, the magazine is realistically positioned and feeds through a feed channel inside the chassis to facilitate the longer high-volume cylinder of Airsoft sniper rifles.

As with the TM M40 and L96, the ASG SAKO TRG will retain BBs inside the feed channel after you have removed the magazine so we recommend proceeding with care following a shooting session and always press the tab on the inside of the magazine well to release the BBs before removing your eye protection. This feature is definitely needed when the likelihood is you will be using expensive heavy weight sniper BBs; with a well-placed BB bottle, you can save the expense of dumping perfectly usable BBs on the ground.

The magazine itself is a chonky affair, appropriately simulating the size of the .338 Lapua round used in the real SAKO TRG M10 and is constructed with an aluminium shell and polymer internals. The mag holds 41BBs which is absolutely loads for a sniper rifle and also has a polymer baseplate with gripping texture which can be used to support the rifle or rest it on a barricade or other piece of cover for a more stable shot.

Next up are the controls of the SAKO TRG M10 which are similar to those of a legacy sniper rifle but with some notable enhancements to improve ergonomics and keep pace with other cutting edge precision rifles. The safety catch has been relocated from the conventional position to inside the trigger guard, making it easy to activate and deactivate without changing your hand position, minimising the chances a slight movement will get you clocked when all ghillied up in the woods. The safety catch is ambidextrous, offering a dual catch which presents itself on either side of the trigger; perfect for both left and right-handed snipers.

The bolt handle is extended, swept downwards and enlarged to make it easy to grab when working under pressure and well out of the way of whatever massive optical sight you choose to mount. The handle itself is constructed from steel for maximum strength and the knob at the tip is polymer for a more comfortable feel. The bolt pull is reasonably light for a 400FPS+ rifle and this is made all the easier thanks to the super smooth cylinder and substantial bolt handle.

You would be forgiven at first chance for assuming that the catch just to the rear of the bolt on the right side is an M700-style safety catch but it is, in fact, a bolt unlocking device which allows you to open the bolt and cock the rifle while the trigger is locked. To do this you will need to pull the safety catch inside the trigger guard rearwards to lock the bolt and trigger, then hold the bolt unlocking device down while lifting the bolt handle which should then allow the rifle to be cocked. A nice bonus feature for the safety-conscious and those who like to use their Airsoft rifles like the real thing!

The magazine release is located just ahead of the trigger guard and is an ambidextrous double paddle which can easily be reached with the trigger finger from either side of the rifle. The mag release style is similar to an AR36 or AK but is nice and low profile, well out of the way of potential snags which could slow you down as you stalk. The trigger guard is enlarged and has plenty of space for full finger gloves and has ports in the bottom to allow access to the trigger for adjustment.

The adjustable trigger of the SAKO TRG can be set for different lengths of travel for optimum comfort via the Allen bolt in the bottom of the trigger itself, and can also be set at different sensitivity levels by using a 1.5mm Allen key to adjust the grub screw in front of the trigger. Trigger adjustment is a remarkably nice feature to have on an Airsoft sniper rifle and allows you to play with the trigger settings until you find your perfect trigger position and level of sensitivity. This is just scratching the surface of the adjustability present in this rifle; if you like having all the options, brace yourself!

The pistol grip is a modern ergonomic design which is set at a near vertical angle for maximum comfort when shooting from the prone position, the natural position of any sniper who knows how to conceal themselves. The grip has linear texture on the front and rear and crackle texture on each side for perfect gripping qualities in any weather conditions. At the top of the grip on the left side, we can find our first sling point which offers both a QD socket and a loop for conventional slings.

Bringing up the rear of the SAKO TRG we can find one of the slickest multi-adjustable precision rifle stocks we have ever encountered. The stock can be folded to the side for transportation and storage via the button on the stock base which is nifty for fitting the TRG into smaller gun bags and cases. More interestingly, the butt plate offers adjustable height and length of pull, allowing you to set the stock to suit your body type and loadout. The length of pull is adjusted by pressing the button on the stock just to the rear of the sling mounts which will propel the butt plate out to the maximum length under spring tension and the butt plate height can be adjusted by holding down the button on the left side of the butt plate and sliding it up and down into your desired position.

Further adding to the adjustability of the stock, the cheek rest can also be raised and lowered by pressing the button on the right side of the stock on the polymer section in the centre, just above the SAKO TRG logo. As with the butt plate, the cheek rest is spring-loaded and will shoot out into the maximum length when the button is pressed, allowing you to hold the button and push it back down until you find the perfect position. Having spring-loaded adjustments allows you to change the stock configuration much faster than screws and dials present in other precision rifle stocks, giving the TRG a huge advantage when compared to its peers.

The last thing to discuss is the strange protrusion on the bottom of the stock which may be a mystery to many. This piece is designed to be used as a rear brace so you can effectively support the TRG when it is deployed on a bipod using your support hand. The brace can also be removed by lifting the front and sliding it forward and off the rail and this will require the part to be slightly flexed, but fortunately, ASG has not cheaped out on the plastic quality on this replica and we do not foresee any issues with this as long as you are careful.

With the brace removed, you will find another 20mm Picatinny rail; as if this rifle doesn't already have enough! This rail is designed to mount a monopod which can be paired with a bipod up front to provide a raised shooting position and support the rear of the rifle to reduce fatigue when shooting and maintaining watch for long durations.

When it comes to the internals, the SAKO TRG is well equipped straight out of the box, boasting a 6.03mm tightbore measuring a massive 610mm in length, an aluminium piston and spring guide and a 90-degree sear to reduce wear and trigger weight. The HOP-up unit is a unique design but is compatible with Tokyo Marui VSR-10 style HOP-up rubbers, giving you all the options under the sun when it comes to HOP-up upgrades.

The cylinder is constructed from steel and has been polished internally for perfectly smooth operation and reduced friction, and the cylinder head is constructed from brass and shaped perfectly to interface with the piston head for near perfect air seal. Whether you are keeping it stock or pushing the limits of performance with upgrades, the ASG SAKO TRG is a considerable step up from more budget-friendly sniper rifle options!

So, if you want an epic centrepiece for your collection which can do double duty as a long range skirmishing tool the ASG SAKO TRG M10 does both jobs with distinction. With licenced trademarks and absolutely stunning build quality across the rifle, the TRG is firmly in the upper echelons of Airsoft sniper rifles in terms of the materials used and attention to detail paid. From a performance standpoint, the TRG has enormous potential.
