Cybergun Desert Eagle .50AE GBB Pistol w/Carry Case

The most popular pistol in Hollywood, the IWI Magnum Research Desert Eagle .50AE has been aggressively thrust in the face of all but rock dwellers since its conception in 1982. The real steel Desert Eagle is available in several different calibres, from the not big enough .357 magnum all the way up to the 'uge .50AE, designed by the Desert Eagle design team specifically for this handgun. The Cyber Gun offering is a replica of the big boy .50AE, naturally, and though it may fire the same 6mm BBs as any other Airsoft gun this Deagle packs some impressive features and outlandish performance, especially when you consider the price!

The markings on this pistol are fully licensed, featuring ".50AE" "®DESERT EAGLE PISTOL" and "MAGNUM RESEARCH INC. PILLAGER MN USA" laser engraved on the left side of the slide, and "MAGNUM RESEARCH INC. MPLS MN USA" on the right side, with the classic Desert Eagle logo in a roundel in the centre of each side of the textured pistol grip. These markings are perfectly printed and come with no essays about reading the instruction manual to ruin the realism!

At the front of the slide, we can find the fixed combat iron sights, which are nice and large to enable rapid acquisition and are low to the bore, allowing a fast draw with minimal snagging. The front sight is mounted to the fixed outer barrel, improving the accuracy of the pistol and allowing a long sight radius for more precise aiming when compared to smaller pistols. The front sight also has a serrated surface to ensure you can still acquire your sights in bright conditions. Only the rear of the slide reciprocates on this pistol, matching the real Desert Eagle functionally and providing ample recoil despite the reduced mass thanks to the "hard kick" internal blowback system.

The ABS build of this pistol not only allows the weight of the pistol to remain low but allows impressive gas efficiency, meaning your gas will last longer and the Desert Eagle will be much more capable of extended rapid fire than its metal cousins. This is particularly beneficial in winter skirmishes, as all but the polymer pistols will be unable to keep up with the lower ambient temperature reducing the pressure of the gas which propels the BB and powers the blowback system.

The HOP-up unit of the Desert Eagle can be found above the chamber, on the outside of the outer barrel, and can be accessed by locking the slide back and then sliding the "chamber" section rearwards. With the chamber "collar" in its rearmost position the rotary HOP-up dial will be revealed. This is a handy feature, as it does not require the pistol to be disassembled to adjust, unlike the vast majority of Airsoft GBB pistols on the market which are a pain to adjust, and require a field strip every time. The Desert Eagle HOP-up design is known to be one of the best out there for GBB pistols, particularly when you consider the age of this venerable design. The Deagle's larger size means a more functional HOP-up unit can be used, and the pistol can fulfil its role as a hand cannon for Airsoft action heroes!

The rear of the slide is where we can find the ambidextrous safety, and despite the fact that it looks miles away from the controls it is still easily reached with the thumb from a firing grip due to the textured extension added to the front of the lever. When the red enamel dot on the slide is revealed, the pistol is ready to fire, with the safety lowered to cover the red dot the pistol is on safe and the trigger is locked. Surrounding the safety there is deep, aggressive serrations to enable positive control, allowing you to rack the slide with confidence whether you wear gloves when skirmishing or not.

The frame is also made from ABS polymer and features textured grip panels that cover the sides of the grip and the backstrap, keeping the pistol firmly in the hands of the user despite the intense recoil. The controls all lie well within reach when the pistol is held in a firing grip, with the slide release featuring a large surface with aggressive texturing to ensure you can operate it regardless of any poor weather conditions.

The magazine release takes the form of a small polymer button on the left side of the grip and can be reached relatively easily whilst being less vulnerable to accidental mag drops than pistols with extended magazine releases. The controls on the Desert Eagle are finished in a lovely gunmetal grey, which contrasts nicely with the frame and grips, adding visual interest to the pistol and building on its realistic appearance. The hammer can be found at the rear of the frame and reciprocates with each shot, and can also be manually actuated for those cool movie standoff moments. At the rearmost point in the frame, we can see an extension, known as a "beaver tail", which helps keep the pistol correctly positioned in the shooter's hand and prevents the hammer from "biting" the web of your hand during firing.

Performance-wise, this is by far the best Desert Eagle in this price range, and is genuinely hard to tell apart from the original TM. The polymer feels slightly different, and the Cyber Gun offering is slightly lighter but packs all the functionality of the TM design into a cost-effective hand cannon we can all afford. The superb gas efficiency and slide speed is is owed to the ABS polymer construction, which handles cool-down effects much better than metal pistols, and allows improved efficiency due to the lack of mass moving when compared to the metal CO2 models. The recoil is not as powerful as the CO2 Desert Eagles, not close, but remains consistent throughout emptying the magazine, and locks back reliably even after rapid firing, unlike the CO2 models which cool down much more quickly. Having said that, this pistol still recoils considerably more than smaller "service" sized handguns, giving you an immersive experience that continues until the last round is fired.

So, if you fancy using a Desert Eagle for some gun meme fun whilst skirmishing, you can rock a superb quality TM clone with licenced trademarks at a price point like never before! And if you already have a metal Desert Eagle, it may be worth thinking about what you will do when the weather gets colder. Use a normal pistol? Never!
