The EMG F1 Firearms BSF-19B Optics Ready GBB Pistol is one to watch if you are the type who demands access to all the latest modern equipment without messing around sourcing parts. The BSF-19B is based on the real BSF-19 pistol designed for competition and tactical use, benefiting from F1 Firearms' high-speed pedigree with its ported weight-reduced slide and considerable ergonomic enhancements built right into the design. Why bother getting an EU19 and dressing it up when the EMG F1 Firearms BSF-19B exists?

Starting at the front we can find a stylish fluted thread protector concealing a 14mm CCW male thread adapter beneath, allowing for a tracer unit or suppressor to be mounted right away. The adapter can also be removed entirely as it mounts to the barrel's 12mm CW female threads, so if you prefer the looks of an unthreaded barrel or you want to save a bit of weight you don't need to swap it out, simply unscrew the adapter and stash it for later.

The front of the slide is bevelled to assist in reholstering the BSF-19B, a feature found on the Glock 19 Gen.5 which earlier generations could really benefit from. The upper corners are also bevelled and have machined grid texture to function as front slide serrations for maximum grip when racking the slide. Along either side, we can find aggressive, angular ports mimicking the real BSF-19B and reducing the weight of the slide for a faster cyclic rate, a consistent theme across the design.

The outer barrel can be seen through the front slide ports and is a spiral-fluted design, further reducing the overall weight and adding to the smart styling of the pistol. Weight reduction is also present on the chamber area of the outer barrel in the form of relief cuts on its flat surfaces, bringing it into line with the looks of the slide and the BSF-19B as a whole. To the rear of the chamber/ejection port, we can see the detailed mock extractor which is a separate part and is finished in gold to add contrast to the design and make the BSF-19B stand out next to standard EU series pistols.

On the opposite side of the slide, we can find another port in line with the mock ejection port, removing even more unneeded material from the slide to maximise gas efficiency and speed up the slide's cycle. The weight reduction continues all the way to the rear of the slide where we can find dynamic swept forward serrations to provide positive grip when racking the slide.

At the top we can find the optics-ready cutout which is covered with a plate; removing this plate will allow you to mount an RMR footprint red dot sight directly to the slide with the included screw set. Red dot optics are rapidly becoming the norm for modern combat and tactical handguns and having the mounting apparatus built into the slide really gives the BSF-19B an edge over other optics-ready platforms which require a separate plate, both in weight and in height over bore. Lower height over bore means less need to compensate when shooting at close range, making for intuitive and instinctive shooting at speeds far above what is possible with iron sights.

Speaking of iron sights, the BSF-19B is also equipped with simple white dot combat open sights which are constructed from metal and are slightly more substantial than standard EU series sights, meaning if you drop the pistol or scrape it mid-game there is little chance of your sights being damaged to the point they can't be used. This also opens up possibilities in real-world pistol doctrine such as racking the slide one-handed by hooking the rear sight on your belt in an emergency or when your other hand is occupied; this may not be a lot of use in skirmishes but adds cool points nonetheless!

The frame of the BSF-19B departs from the norm for EU series handguns, even enhanced EU series handguns. Being constructed from aluminium gives the frame greater strength and gives the pistol a massive improvement in balance and handling by distributing the weight more similarly to the aluminium grip-equipped race gun Hi-capas used by many IPSC shooters. If you are used to the top heavy feel of polymer-framed EU series handguns you will be pleasantly surprised with how different the BSF-19B feels with its weight-reduced slide and slightly heavier alu frame. This is an EU19 which doesn't feel like it wants to flip over in your hands!

At the front of the frame, we have a 20mm Picatinny rail which is ideally placed to mount a tactical flashlight or aiming laser and gives you more options than the standard EU series which has a EU/G style rail when it comes to what accessories you want to add. Just to the rear of the rail we also have a trigger lock safety designed for storage and transportation, adding an extra level of safety without ruining the realism aspect.

The trigger guard is reprofiled with what is known as "undercuts", allowing you to take a higher grip on the BSF-19B for better recoil control and more intuitive target-to-target transitions. Just in front of the disassembly levers we also have a weight-reducing cut which also serves to provide a trigger finger index point for when your finger needs a safe place to rest between kills.

The adjustable HOP-up unit of the BSF-19B is accessible with the slide removed and the pistol in "field stripped" condition. This is done the exact same way as a conventional EU19; simply remove the mag, rack the slide and hold the disassembly levers on each side down, after which the slide can be pushed forward and off the pistol. On the bottom of the outer barrel is where you will find the gear style HOP-up adjuster. The HOP-up allows you to adjust the amount of backspin applied to your BBs and extend your range or tune the pistol for heavier ammo. As with other EU series handguns, If you need to remove the outer barrel from the slide for maintenance you will need to remove the thread adapter before the barrel can be removed from the slide.

The magazine release is in the usual spot; on the left side, where the trigger guard meets the grip. This mag release is considerably smaller than even the Gen.3 EU series release, avoiding any possibility that the mag release will get pressed inadvertently and send your mag tumbling into the dirt at exactly the wrong time! The mag release is textured on its surface to provide plenty of grip and is a push button which should be familiar to users of almost any other pistol platform.

The slide release lever is constructed from steel and is slightly extended to provide easy and fast access while keeping the pistol relatively free of parts that can snag on your kit and inhibit the speed of your draw. A steel slide lock/release really is essential in the world of full metal GBB pistols and should prevent this important high wear part from failing in the long term.

On the front and back strap, the grip of the BSF-19B sports machined crosshatch texture to keep the pistol in your hands when working at speed and in wet weather conditions. The sides of the grip are flat and featureless, save for the thumb and trigger finger relief cuts at the top, allowing you to add grip tape in race gun style and easily modify the pistol to meet your gripping needs without needing to pull out the soldering iron. The base of the grip also has a cutout on either side to aid in removing a stuck or fouled magazine, a feature only added to the latest Gen 5 Glock pistols very recently.

Though it is a licenced design via EMG, the BSF-19B is very subtle when it comes to trademarks which many of us really appreciate when accustomed to bright white laser engravings on other enhanced EU series pistols. Other than its absolutely unique aesthetic, the only evidence you will find that this is an F1 Firearms BSF-19B replica is the delicately engraved markings on the upper left side of the frame. The markings read "F-1 FIREARMS SPRING, TX" with the model name "BSF" engraved just below. These discrete markings match those on the real BSF-19 pistol perfectly and make a great alternative look to the more boastful Tarran Tactical or Salient Arms pistols.

When it comes to internals, the BSF-19B is based on the Tokyo Marui EU17 design but has been treated to a 6.05mm stainless steel tightbore inner barrel, dual-stage recoil spring, V style HOP-up nub and a clear polycarbonate nozzle which raise its performance up into the above average. The stainless steel tightbore should improve FPS and gas efficiency and also provide excellent accuracy thanks to its flawless machining.

The V nub provides contact surfaces on either edge of the BB as it passes through the HOP-up chamber to minimise side-to-side shot deviation and apply lift across the whole upper surface of the BB. The polycarbonate nozzle is a super strong part with far less likelihood of breaking and the dual-stage recoil spring serves a similar purpose; providing impressive recoil while helping decelerate the slide as it reaches the end of its travel to prevent excess wear on the internal parts.

The EMG F1 Firearms BSF-19B is the perfect pistol for those who simply aren't satisfied with the plain looks of a normal EU19 GBB. Bristling with pre-upgraded parts both inside and out with the added bonus of being able to directly mount an RMR cut red dot sight, the BSF-19B is ready to go toe to toe with other enhanced EU series pistols and give them a worthy challenger. With a full external revamp in the form of a weight-reduced slide, spiral fluted barrel and enhanced aluminium frame, you would have to spend a whole lot of money to make a normal EU19 GBB look as good as this!
