Umarex GLOCK 17 Gen.3 GBB Pistol; Ultimate Edition

The Glock 17 Ultimate Edition is by a long way the most realistic Glock replica any of us here have ever handled. The most noticeable thing when you are used to other airsoft Glocks is the size of the slide, which is a fair bit slimmer than others due to its perfect 1:1 dimensions. Another thing you will notice upon firing is the incredible recoil, which is all down to its weighty steel slide and is genuinely hard to control. That said, this Glock is specifically intended for only the most exacting collectors out there, and its emphasis is primarily on realism over skirmish performance, though it is no slouch in the shooting department! Lets go over how this Glock differs from anything else on the market, and its major changes!

Starting at the tip of the barrel we can note that there are no female threads on this pistol, and the muzzle has convincing mock rifling visible and an inset inner barrel finished in black. There is no tell-tale brass inner barrel visible here, elevating the realism of this Glock 17 above all the others and making it the perfect prop for filmmaking or photoshoots. The outer barrel is CNC machined from steel and is finished in a dull gunmetal grey colour, matching the slide and providing some contrast between it and the frame of the pistol which contributes immensely to its realistic look.

At the top of the slide we can find the sights of the pistol, which are appropriately constructed from polymer, just like the sights on a real GLOCK 17. These sights are of the standard GLOCK style, with a bright white dot on the front post, and a white U marking on the rear sight notch to make acquiring these sights quickly an absolute breeze. These sights are differently designed than other similar pistols, and are not compatible with any sight mount plates for EU series pistols. This is because the Umarex Ultimate GLOCK 17 takes the same sights the real GLOCK 17 does, meaning you don't have to wait for Airsoft manufacturers to catch up if you want an innovative new sighting solution! How's that for realism?

As previously mentioned, the slide of this GLOCK 17 is CNC machined from steel, providing a substantial weight increase, absolutely incredible recoil and a more realistic feel and balance. The slide is finished in a matt gunmetal colour, matching the barrel and the appearance of the real GLOCK 17. This slide design is completely different to any other similar pistols out there, prioritising realism over everything else. The slide is the correct size for a GLOCK 17, unlike others on the market which use the same enlarged GLOCK 21 sized slide the original TM pistol does. This allows the Ultimate Edition GLOCK 17 to be used with real GLOCK 17 holsters with a flawless fit. 

The rear of the slide features the usual GLOCK slide end plate, but unlike other Airsoft GLOCKs, this one is not cast alloy, but polymer! Another nod to realism from the Ultimate GLOCK 17, no other Airsoft GLOCK pays this much attention to detail! The right side of the slide also includes a mock extractor, which, like the other features of this GLOCK 17, is considerably more detailed and faithful to the original than others. Due to the redesigned internals, this part can afford to have deeper recesses and more detail which makes it truly hard to differentiate from a real GLOCK 17.

On the left side of the slide, we can take note of the absolutely perfect GLOCK 17 trademarks crisply engraved in, reading "GLOCK [logo] 17 AUSTRIA 9x19". Even when compared to other Umarex GLOCKs, these trademarks show a completely different level of precision in the engraving of these markings, which are both bold and visible but incredibly fine in detail. The right side of the slide features more markings, with a small GLOCK logo beneath the mock extractor and "DA47861" engraved beneath the ejection port. On the chamber itself, we are treated to even more trademarks, which are perfectly accurate to the real pistol. These markings read "DA47861 [GLOCK logo]" with a pentagon proof marking following. The top of the chamber has not been forgotten, with a super small and fine "9x19" engraved at the front right corner, accurately portraying the real pistol and its 9x19 chambering.

This realistic steel slide makes for a radically different feel with this GLOCK than others; something which will surprise veteran GLOCK users who think they know the platform well. This GLOCK 17 handles like the real thing, feeling totally different to any Airsoft GLOCK on the market before it. The balance is the most striking difference, especially when coupled with the realistic polymer magazine. This feels like a totally different pistol to any EU or GLOCK pistol from any other manufacturer. GLOCK users, get ready to relearn everything you know!

Moving on to the frame, we have a GLOCK 17 Gen.3 frame with a difference. This frame is actually manufactured in a very similar manner to a real GLOCK frame, with a rigid polymer internal frame with a textured over-mould featuring finger grooves and gripping texture on all faces of the grip. This is yet another significant difference that sets this GLOCK apart, as every other Airsoft GLOCK we are aware of uses a single piece injection moulded design, which is economical for an Airsoft gun but not a patch on the solid feel of the Ultimate Edition GLOCK. If you have ever tried to flex the mag well of your Airsoft GLOCK by squeezing it you will be aware of the difference between others and the Ultimate Edition GLOCK. This frame does not flex, even a little bit, even if you squeeze until you are red in the face!

The finish on the frame is a textured satin finish, steering away from the flat, matt finishes on other Airsoft Gen.3 frames which make it clear they are replicas to the observer with an eye for the details. The frame also sports realistic GLOCK markings, with the GLOCK logo present at the bottom of the textured grip panel on the left side, and "Officially Licensed Product of GLOCK" on the panel on the right side, between the thumb indent and the slide. These panels both have a shiny background, just like the real GLOCK; providing further evidence of the over-moulded frame construction. The textured panels on either side of this GLOCK 17 are also a step up from its rivals, with a much more prominent and aggressive texture which sticks to your hands like glue. The front strap features finger grooves with checkering in between, and further checkering on the backstrap to provide a perfect grip, whether you wear gloves or not.

The trigger guard of the GLOCK 17 Ultimate Edition has the same profile as we expect to see on a Gen.3 frame, with a slight undercut on the trigger guard to promote a high grip, and a textured front face to allow for use of the "European grip", a target shooting grip method which helps keep the muzzle under control by applying down force with the support and using the trigger guard. In front of the trigger guard we can find a 20mm Picatinny pistol rail, ideally suited to GLOCK style pistol torches but perfectly functional with generic Picatinny mounting apparatus. Recessed into this rail we can find the serial number plate, which is constructed from aluminium and does not also function as a safety device. This GLOCK 17 was manufactured by GBB giants GHK, and is not based on the TM design and thus relies entirely on the GLOCK 17 trigger safety, just like it should! The magazine release can be found on the left side of the pistol, and is a low profile design matching that of the real GLOCK 17 Gen.3. The release has a serrated surface to ensure you can still drop your magazine and reload quickly in wet weather or when wearing gloves. The slide stop/release can be found just above the magazine release, and is constructed from steel to provide the expected strength for a part which interacts with a massive steel slide moving quickly! The steel construction of this part guarantees it will provide reliable locking for the entire lifespan of the pistol, and never wear out like alloy equivalents.

If all this added realism sounds good to you, you will love this next part! The trigger of the Umarex GLOCK 17 Ultimate is the most realistic trigger in any Airsoft GLOCK, by a massive margin. The trigger weight has been perfectly tuned to precisely 2.8kg which is the same weight as the real GLOCK 17 trigger. This means a much harder trigger press than other Airsoft GLOCKs, which all feel like they have 1911 triggers. If you are all about realism and having the most realistic feel for your guns, this trigger goes a long way and makes a surprising difference to the overall feel of the GLOCK 17. The trigger uses the same dual stage safety system as other GLOCKs, preventing a snag or protruding branch from causing a negligent discharge.

So, if realism is your thing, so should the GLOCK 17 Ultimate Edition! Its realistically sized CNC machined steel slide, over-moulded frame construction, compatibility with real GLOCK sights and absolutely faithful trigger weight make it the most realistic Airsoft GLOCK ever made, by a massive margin. Other pistols do exist, and have existed which place a similar amount of emphasis on realism, but these pistols cost many times what the Ultimate Edition GLOCK does, and are generally still TM clones with imperfect dimensions and an "Airsoft" trigger pull. Make no mistake, this GLOCK might be the most realistic Airsoft GBB pistol ever made!

Special Instructions

Due to the sheer weight of the GLOCK 17 Ultimate Edition slide, we recommend using Vorsk V12 gas or equivalent to ensure you can get through a complete magazine without the gas supply running out.

As it comes out of the box, the GLOCK 17 Ultimate Edition has a very stiff trigger. This was designed in to mimic the real GLOCK 17 trigger but will wear in slightly with use and become less stiff. 

The gas fill port of the GLOCK 17 Ultimate Edition magazine is beneath the baseplate and can be accessed by pushing in the circular tab on the base of the magazine and pulling the baseplate forward, where it will be retained.

The HOP-up unit of the GLOCK 17 Ultimate Edition can be accessed through a field strip, but also requires that the HOP-up base and inner barrel are removed from the outer barrel to access the rotary adjuster.
