Specna Arms SA-E23 EDGE™ M4 AEG w/ Gate X-ASR MOSFET

The Edge series is the uprated line of rifles from Specna Arms, which combines their robust and hardy external build-quality with advanced internals, and a Gate X-ASR MOSFET to protect the electric components and allow you to use bigger batteries for higher rates of fire, whilst also tightening up your trigger response.

The exterior of the SA-E23 is that of full metal construction, finished to an amazing standard, featuring lovely engraved trademarks. The Edge series also feature an ESA™ quick change spring system which dramatically reduces the amount of time to change the output power of your rifle, allowing you to change the main spring via the buffer tube.

The externals are made from a mix of Aluminium and Zinc Alloy which undergo a rigorous course of Sand Blasting, Powder Coating and then Anodising to achieve a world-class finish on their metal-work. This finish is then protected by a 'Nano Coating' finish that reduces scratches. To top it off, this variant comes in dual tone, the metallic black contrasts nicely with the gorgeous chaos-bronze for a classy, yet eye-catching aesthetic.

The external trim parts of the rifle such as structural screws and supports are made from Steel to ensure a long-life performance. The Polymers used throughout are of exceptional quality and feel really good in the hands, the Pistol Grip being textured to promote grip in all conditions. The pistol grip has a neat design which allows you quick access to the motor without the need for tools.

Starting at the tip of the rifle we can see the bird cage style flash hider, which is a classic look for most M4s, perfectly matching the aesthetic of the rifle, however, if you ever want to swap it out to personalise your rifle, this is easily done thanks to it being attached via 14mm CCW thread. So if you ever want to change up the rifle's look or add a suppressor or even tracer unit, customisation is dead easy!

One of the main draws of the SA-E23 is the gorgeous chaos bronze handguard. Constructed from aluminium alloy with a brushed metallic finish, the rear of the handguard features a sturdy and chunky design, which blends into the receiver nicely and is affixed with sturdy and reliable bolts. The handguard has a fully customisable and modern rail system in the form of M-LOK ports, set at 45-degree angles for a superior level of attachment options, should you want to attach various tactical devices such as lasers and torches.

This rifle comes equipped with the included angled foregrip, constructed from the same aluminium as the handguard and coloured in metallic black, contrasting nicely with the handguard, which is in keeping with the dual-tone aesthetic of the SA-E23. The handguard is attached via the M-LOK system and can be adjusted along the handguard to suit your reach and playstyle. With ridged serrations on the underside, the foregrip provides a good amount of friction when gripped for a great level of stability when wielding the rifle, with or without gloves.

The top of the handguard features the standard 20mm rail, with 9 inches of rail real estate that runs along the length of the handguard, blending seamlessly with the receiver for a 'monolithic' look, with the receiver rail space measuring an additional 6 inches. Atop the rail sits the flip-up ironsights, easily flipped into position with a flick of the thumb, ready for long-distance shooting. The sights are constructed from lightweight polymer and can be adjusted left and right with a turn of the nub located on the right-hand side. The rear sight features an aperture design for a superior level of accuracy with two different aperture settings, which are easily switched between by flipping the rear aperture up or down.

Featuring an ambidextrous design, the charging handle sports an extended left-hand side and, while it doesn't have any gameplay function as racking it is certainly a satisfying experience, with a weighty crack when the handle is pulled back and released. Pulling back the handle exposes the ejection port, the interior of which houses the rotary HOP-unit. This unit is easily adjusted to tweak the backspin, which alters the rotation of the BBs shot, for windage and elevation.

Specna Arms is well known in the Airsoft community and likes to display its logo and trademarks loud and proud as a mark of quality. This rifle sports various CNC engravings found on the lower receiver to complement the rifle's aesthetic. The SA-E23 sports an enlarged and textured pistol grip, constructed from tough, but lightweight polymer. The grip features a stippled texture on the left and right-hand sides with, ridged serrations on the front, providing you with all the friction and grip you need to make sure this rifle stays firmly within your grasp.

Those of you who like to run slings with your rifle fear not! For the SA-E23 comes with a multitude of sling options. The handguard and stock both feature QD sling points and the buffer plate features 3x sling loops, so you can mix and match where you like to affix your sling, depending on your playstyle and how you like to traverse the battlefield.

The very rear of the rifle features a standard M4 sliding crane stock, which is fully adjustable with 6 settings. Being that this is a rear-wired replica, the battery compartment is located inside the stock. The advantage of a crane stock is that you can fit comparatively larger capacity batteries in crane form factor to fit each cell on either side of the crane stock's interior compartments. The SA-E23 has a Deans battery connector, but fear not if you already own batteries with Tamiya connector as this rifle comes included with a Deans to Tamiya battery connector. We recommend 7.4v crane batteries for use with this rifle.

Internally, this Gun has a huge range of features that make it a prime choice over other models in its' price range. The first of many uprated components is a 6.03mm Precision Inner Barrel, and a Rotary HOP Unit for fine control over your BB's backspin, allowing for an increase in range and consistency (when using the right BBs and settings). The HOP Unit has a Helium™ Flat HOP bucking which interacts very evenly with the BB, and makes for excellent and stable lift. As with any premium Specna model, you have the ORION gearbox inside, with the updated ESA2™ quick change spring system that allows for rapid main spring changes from the Buffer Tube, without having to remove or disassemble the Gearbox. The ORION Gearbox also features, a lightweight polymer piston with a full steel rack, a double-sealed piston head with bearings, an air-sealed nozzle, double sealed cylinder head, spring guide on bearings, a set of steel gears and 8mm bearings. The steel gears and tooth rack along with the reinforced gearbox shell provide a higher level of durability for stock spring as well as further, power tuning.

Included in the box are 2 x 125rnd Mid-Cap Magazines, which are made from a tough Polymer and feature a tessellated 'SA' pattern, 'Specna Arm's and calibre engravings. These Magazines are built to a high quality, won't let you down, and put you well on your way to a full loadout. If you're looking to achieve absolute top-tier features and quality for a mid-tier price, then all marketing speak aside, you absolutely cannot go wrong with one of these right now.
