If you are looking for an affordable, full metal Hi-Capa but don't want something ordinary, the RAVEN Hi-Capa HEX-Comp GBB is the Hi-Capa for you. This GBB pistol boasts a unique hexagonal-themed external design, with hex texture on the grip and mag release, hexagonal slide serrations and hexagonal ports in both the built-in compensator and trigger.

Adding to its unique attributes, the HEX-Comp uses a Hi-Capa 4.3 length slide paired with a 5.1 length frame, making the slide lighter and faster to cycle with the extended 20mm frame rail of the larger 5.1 for wider accessory compatibility. As with other Hi-Capa offerings from RAVEN, we are also treated to a 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel for enhanced accuracy and a slight FPS boost; a thoughtful upgrade to offer straight out of the box, especially when you consider the price. If you want a Hi-Capa which stands out, this one certainly does!

Description

The RAVEN Hi-Capa HEX-Comp GBB is ideal for those in search of an affordable full metal Hi-Capa with a style all of its own. The HEX-Comp features a hexagonal-themed aesthetic across the externals, including hexagonal compensator and trigger ports, hexagonal texture on the grip and mag release and hexagonal slide serrations to top it off.

A unique Hi-Capa from top to bottom, the HEX-Comp also makes use of a unique slide and frame combo; pairing the lighter and shorter 4.3-length slide with the 5.1 frame with its longer 20mm rail. This means a slightly faster cyclic rate than the average Hi-Capa 5.1 and more accessory options than a standard 4.3, giving you the best of both lengths.

Starting at the front, we can see our HEX-cut compensator with hexagonal ports on either side, fixed to the frame rather than the barrel to retain gas efficiency and avoid negatively affecting accuracy. The compensator is a big part of what gives the HEX-Comp its unique looks, adding the race-gun aesthetic to make the platform really stand out next to others. The compensator is affixed to the frame by 4 Allen bolts which will need to be removed for field stripping.

Next up, we come to the outer barrel which is fixed in place, omitting the usual tilting barrel of Hi-Capa GBB platforms. This improves accuracy slightly, pairing well with the pre-installed 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel. The outer barrel does have 12mm CW female threads at the front but these are blocked by the compensator. If you want to add a tracer unit to the HEX-Comp, you will need to remove the compensator, use a 12mm CW to 14mm CCW thread adapter and choose a tracer unit that is very slim in diameter to ensure it doesn't make contact with the frame.

The slide itself features anti-glare serrations on the upper surface, ensuring you can use your iron sights easily even in bright sunlight. The serrations also serve to reduce heat mirage in real 2011 pistols, adding a hint of realism to this unique Airsoft design. The iron sights are on the top of the slide and are fixed combat-style iron sights with green light-enhancing inserts, meaning they are easy to find in low-light environments and very fast to use when compared to standard black or white dot irons.

Moving rearwards, we come to the rear slide serrations which are hexagonal in design, matching well with the rest of the HEX-Comp Hi-Capa. The serrations are quite minimalist in profile, so we suggest using the rear iron sight for extra leverage if you are struggling to rack the slide with gloves on. At the rear of the slide, we can find the skeletonised hammer, another nod to the competitive shooting world which reduces overall weight and greatly adds to the race-gun aesthetic.

Moving down to the frame, we are treated to a full-length 20mm Picatinny frame rail, suitable for a wide variety of tactical flashlights and laser aiming modules with plenty of space to mount it wherever you prefer. As with most Hi-Capa GBBs, the frame is constructed from alloy, with a separate polymer grip/trigger guard assembly which is modular and can be changed out easily. On the left side of the frame, we can find the slide lock/release catch which is an extended design, making it easy to reach from a firing grip, even for those with smaller hands. The slide lock allows you to reload quickly when the slide is locked back.

The gear adjustable HOP-up unit of the HEX-Comp Hi-Capa is located on the outer barrel, as it is with most Hi-Capas. Where the HEX-Comp differs is in its field stripping process; to remove the slide you will first need to remove the compensator via its 4 Allen bolts at the front of the frame rail. With this done, the usual field stripping process applies; remove the mag, rack the slide and hold it back so the slide lock aligns with the semi-circular cutout on the left side of the slide, then push the slide lock through the pistol from the right.

Following this, the slide can be removed towards the front and the adjustable HOP-up can be accessed. The HOP-up allows you to tune the Hi-Capa HEX-Comp for different ammo weights, looking for the flattest possible trajectory. If you are adjusting the HOP-up to perfection for outdoor skirmishes, we recommend leaving the compensator off the platform during adjustment and remounting it once you are happy with the HOP-up setting.

The grip/trigger guard assembly is unique to the RAVEN Hi-Capa HEX-Comp and features hexagonal texture on each side along with a RAVEN logo inside a hexagon in the centre. The grip provides ample traction for wet weather and gloved use and has a slightly rubberised feel for improved comfort when shooting without gloves. The front features the usual pyramidal texture, as does the hammer spring housing at the rear.

Adding to the HEX-Comp's unique styling, we are treated to a skeletonized trigger with hexagonal weight reduction ports in the centre; another part unique to the HEX-Comp. The trigger is a straight-back design with a gentle front curve to encourage proper finger positioning, and as with most other Hi-Capas, the pull is short and light, ideal for rapid fire. The trigger guard is the standard Hi-Capa square shape with texture on the front to allow for improved muzzle control when shooting with the "European Grip" technique.

At the base of the grip, we are treated to a feature often forgotten on modern pistols but nonetheless extremely useful for Airsoft. The lanyard loop allows you to connect the Hi-Capa HEX-Comp directly to your belt or rig using a Pistol Retention Lanyard, meaning if your pistol slips out of its holster it will remain tethered to you and never go missing. If you do a lot of crawling while skirmishing or use a fabric holster, the lanyard loop will be very useful to you!

The magazine release is over on the left side, ideally placed for fast access from a firing grip. The release is a push-button style, as is the standard for Hi-Capas, but boasts hexagonal texturing on the surface to complete the HEX-Comp aesthetic. This is a standard-sized button, offering the benefit of relatively easy and fast reloads without being so large it risks being inadvertently pressed during an intense exchange of fire.

Both the manual safety catch and beavertail grip safety are located at the rear of the frame, and both can be used by either left or right-handed shooters. The manual safety is on each side, with a textured upper surface for flawless wet weather performance and doubling as a thumb rest when in the "fire" position. The beavertail safety, also known as the grip safety, is a low-profile design, skipping the usual extensions for a clean and professional look. The grip safety prevents the pistol from being fired unless it is gripped properly, minimising the chances of a snag or fumble on the draw causing a negligent discharge.

Inside the Hi-Capa HEX-Comp, we are treated to a pre-installed 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel, giving us the edge over rival platforms when it comes to accuracy. The tightbore will also give you a slight FPS increase without needing to go up to a stronger gas and pairs well with the fixed outer barrel for surprising long-range performance for a pistol. Though it may be cheap, the HEX-Comp is a remarkably good shooter!

Whether it is your first sidearm or another to add to the collection, the RAVEN Hi-Capa HEX-Comp is great value for money, giving you a fixed outer barrel, 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel and a unique style all for starter pistol pricing. Another bonus is its availability in both RIF and Pre Two-Tone VCRA compliant blue, meaning if you don't have UKARA or a VCRA defence just yet you can still order without waiting for our Two-Tone service!
