How to Fit a Red Dot Sight to a 20mm Rail
This PBTV Airsoft Quick Tips guide video shows how to fit a 20mm Picatinny compatible red dot sight to a 20mm Picatinny rail on your favourite Airsoft Replica. There are various mounting mechanisms in use with red dot sights, holographic sights and reflex sights, and here we will show you the most common ones and how to mount them on a 20mm Picatinny rail.
QD mount simply requires you to open the QD lever/levers, align the notches in the underside of the mount with the recesses in the rail, position the sight where you require it and close the levers.
QD mounts allow you to quickly change optical sights without the need for tools and are great if you like to use the same sight on several different guns, or if you want to use a single gun to fulfil multiple battlefield roles.
Some QD mounts may require adjustment to fit on some 20mm rails, and this can usually be done by loosening or tightening the bolt or nut used to hold the QD levers onto the mount.
Standard mounts use either a thumb screw or bolt to secure it and require first that the securing feature is loosened enough to allow the mount to fit onto the rail. As with the QD mount, any notches on the underside of the mount need to be aligned with the recesses in the rail, and once they are and the sight is in place you can tighten down the thumb screw or bolt to lock the sight in place.
