Lancer Tactical LT-35 Battle X 9mm PDW AEG Gen.2

The LT-35 is Lancer Tactical's answer to the AR-9 craze, offering an M4/AR15 platform which takes 9mm styled magazines, meaning you can fit more on a lightweight rig and lean into a high speed low drag loadout to keep up in fast paced CQB skirmishes. Being ready for any accessory you can throw at it, and weighing a remarkably low 1.7KG, the LT-35 makes one slick little SMG/PCC and is well equipped on the inside as a bonus!

Starting at the front we can see a "cookie cutter" style muzzle device at the tip of the 7-inch alloy outer barrel, giving the LT-35 a menacing aura and looks to kill. As much as this muzzle device looks fantastic, for a CQB skirmish you are going to want a tracer on this bad boy to keep heads down. This is absolutely possible thanks to the barrel's 14mm CCW male threading, which also allows alternative muzzle devices to be added, including suppressors for the sneaky skirmishers.

The 7-inch outer barrel is surrounded by a 7-inch M-LOK handguard, giving you maximum room for adding accessories even with such a short and manoeuvrable setup. The front of the handguard is cut at an angle, which only adds to the dynamic look of the LT-35 Battle X. At the 12 o'clock position we are treated to a 20mm Picatinny rail which runs all the way back to the rear of the receiver, with the receiver rail connecting in a "monolithic" manner. This allows optical sights to be mounted wherever you prefer, and has plenty of space for both an optic and a PEQ laser unit should you choose to dress the Battle X up special forces style.

At the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions we have 3 M-LOK negative space attachment slots, which allows for accessories to be mounted without adding unnecessary weight to the default setup. M-LOK accessories can be mounted directly to this rail, or you can use M-LOK to Picatinny rail adapters, and make use of more common 20mm Picatinny accessories. The handguard is constructed from the same nylon reinforced high density polymer and has absolutely no flex while retaining full compatibility with M-LOK accessories and boasting superb scratch resistance.

Arriving at the receiver we can see gripping texture at the front of the magazine well which is well suited to unconventional stances and compressed shooting up close. The receiver itself follows the M4/AR15 format, with an upper and lower receiver connected via body pins. On the centre left of the receiver, we can find the dummy bolt catch, which doesn't function but is nonetheless a separate part for added realism. The dummy forward assist is over on the right side of the upper, and again, does nothing but is present to appropriately simulate the layout of a real AR-9.

The fire selector is located just above the pistol grip and is easily accessible from a firing grip, sitting just beneath the thumb of the shooter. Its 90-degree throw makes the selector fast to use, but practically immune from being inadvertently knocked out of place. The LT-35 has 3 modes of fire; Safe, semi-automatic and full automatic, which are indicated with recessed markings.

This fire selector differs from the norm in its design, sporting a slightly higher profile with gripping texture on the top and bottom, and a recess in the centre. This is far more comfortable than the average selector and can be manipulated with ease. We would love to see this selector switch appear on Lancer's other M4/AR15 platforms in the future!

To access the rotary HOP-up adjuster of the LT-35 you will need to pull the charging handle to the rear which will open the dust cover and retract the mock bolt, presenting the HOP-up adjuster on the right side. The charging handle is located at the top rear of the receiver, and is an ambidextrous design, allowing left or right-handed users to access the HOP-up instinctively, with no funny body mechanics involved. The rotary HOP-up unit is the current best design out there for the M4 platform, and we are happy to see it find its way into the LT-35 Battle X.

Moving down to the lower receiver we can take note of the Lancer ergonomic pistol grip, which has comfortable and grippy dot texturing on either side, ensuring your LT-35 stays firmly in your hands as long as you do your part. The grip has a filled out backstrap, and a slightly altered angle which pairs perfectly with the ultra short PDW stock, allowing for comfortable shooting with the stock fully collapsed.

The trigger is right where we would hope to find it, in the trigger guard, which is enlarged to allow gloved users to get their finger onto the trigger quickly when a sudden threat appears. The magazine release is on the right side of the magazine well and is easily reached with the trigger finger for a rapid M4/AR15 style reload. The trigger itself is a flat "speed" style trigger with a small finger ledge, letting you slap away at it without slipping off, putting down some game-winning semi-auto firepower in CQB.

Lastly, we come to the stock of the LT-35 Battle X which is a unique Lancer Tactical PDW style stock. This stock is very well designed and incorporates the battery compartment of the AEG and 2 QD sling sockets, one on either side. The stock base and butt plate are constructed from high density polymer, and the stock adjustment bars are constructed from alloy.

To adjust the stock all you need to do is press the button in the centre of the stock base and the stock will shoot open into its fully extended position via a spring-loaded mechanism. The stock provides 3 positions of adjustment, and if the adjustment button is held down you can simply push the stock into the desired position and release the button to lock it in place.

The battery compartment is located in the cheekpiece of the stock and can be accessed by simply pulling it off. Inside you will find a Deans battery connector and a Deans to mini-Tamiya adapter which is already installed. This means you have the choice of what battery connector to use, and the battery compartment is ideally sized to fit a 7.4V 1300mAh LiPo stick battery. We recommend using the Deans connector for a slightly higher rate of fire and less resistance, though if you already have mini-Tamiya batteries there is no need to buy a new one just for the LT-35.

On the inside, the LT-35 boasts Lancer Tactical's gen.2 internals, including a very well equipped version 2 gearbox with a 23,000 RPM high torque motor, 8mm steel bushings, a steel toothed piston and an anodised cylinder to reduce friction. The internal wiring is all shielded low resistance wiring, and the use of a Deans battery connector means the power from your battery is delivered to the motor more efficiently, resulting in a surprising rate of fire for such an affordable AEG. The LT-35 Battle X is no slouch in the range and accuracy department either, and its well polished 6.03mm tightbore and rotary HOP-up unit give it the reach to contend with anything else out there when it comes to outdoor skirmishes.

If you are looking for a CQB primary which takes 9mm style magazines and is lighter than a packet of crisps (metaphorically speaking), the Lancer Tactical LT-35 Battle X would be a fine choice. With a selection of pre-upgraded parts which should see it run happily and competitively for a lifetime of turning and burning in CQB, the LT-35 is a great alternative to the G&G ARP9 for those who want something a little different which still rocks the 9mm AR look.
