- Version 2 gearbox - Quick Change Spring guide
- SBR Style AR Receiver - MP5/M4 Hybrid design
The King Arms 9mm SBR AEG is based on recent developments in the world of pistol calibre carbines and SMGs in the firearms world, hybridizing the ergonomics and modularity of the M4/AR15 platform with the more compact magazines of 9mm SMG platforms.
The 9mm SBR feeds from MP5/SMG-5 AEG magazines and follows the M4/AR15 in the layout of its controls, giving AR users the option to run an SMG which is very similar to their assault rifle, meaning less training to master the new platform and less chance of "training scars" causing confusion mid firefight. If you are stuck for choice between an M4 AEG and an SMG-5, why not get both in one?

Description
Starting at the tip of the outer barrel we have a muzzle device which is styled after real steel linear compensators intended to reduce recoil in short barrelled platforms. The compensator also functions as a sound amplifier, giving the 9mm SBR an intimidating muzzle report, making it an asset in CQB. The compensator attaches to the 14mm CCW male threading at the tip of the outer barrel so if you need a tracer unit to keep heads down or you like to sneak around with a suppressed SMG this is not out of the question!
The handguard is a quad 20mm Picatinny railed example constructed from polymer to keep the weight low and more effectively resist scratches that will inevitably develop on metal rail systems from mounting accessories. The 9mm SBR presents a 20mm Picatinny rail at the 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock positions, meaning you can mount any tactical goodies you need to complete the mission easily and without compatibility worries.
The 9mm SBR comes in two variants; the shorty, which has a 4-inch handguard and the “long” version which is rocking a 7-inch handguard. As you receive it, both variants come with fully adjustable Troy style flip up iron sights which can be used as the primary sight or left flipped down on the rail when used with a scope or red dot sight. The sights can also be removed entirely for those who follow the manta “spray and pray”.
The receiver follows the familiar to most M4/AR15 layout but with a selection of ambidextrous controls and a new design for the magazine release to facilitate the 9mm SBR’s compatibility with MP5/SMG-5 AEG magazines. The fire selector switch is positioned just above the pistol grip on the left side and has a 90-degree throw between fire modes, allowing for fast operation with reduced risk of accidentally slipping into the wrong fire mode.
The magazine release is very similar to the MP5/SMG-5 platform, offering an M4/AR15 style release button on either side, with the option to use the centrally positioned ambidextrous MP5 style paddle magazine release instead. Having two options for releasing the magazine makes the 9mm SBR easy to use regardless of your experience level, and the M4/AR15 style release is great for emergency reloads, while the MP5 style release is perfect for retention reloads for those who don’t like throwing their magazines around.
The ejection port is located on the right side of the upper receiver, similarly to an M4/AR15 but with a smaller window to correctly simulate the 9mm styling of the SBR. This is a nice little detail for those in the know, as it mimics the original Colt SMG well, which was the first 9mm chambered M4/AR15 style rifle. The charging handle is in the same spot as on the M4, and pulling it back will open the dust cover and retract the mock bolt, revealing the gear HOP-up adjuster inside. The HOP-up applies a varied amount of backspin to your projectiles, providing better stability and allowing you to tune the AEG for different weights of ammo.
Behind the ejection port, we have a mock brass deflector and mock forward assist button, just like a real M4/AR15 and other real world 9mm AR style SMGs. These parts aren’t functional on an Airsoft AEG but are an essential part of a realistic looking modern 9mm AR. The forward assist button can be pressed and is a separate part, avoiding the tell-tale signs of a replica seen in cheaper alternatives.
Over on the left side of the receiver, we can find the enlarged bolt release catch of the 9mm SBR which has texture on its surface to aid easy use in wet weather conditions. The bolt catch doesn't really serve any function in the Airsoft AEG but is nonetheless included for realism, and its enlarged nature fits well with the 9mm SBR’s modern aesthetic.
The stock of the 9mm SBR is a PDW style sliding stock, offering a more compact alternative to the usual M4/AR15 buffer tube with multiple levels of adjustment built in. The stock adjustment button is located on the base of the stock and is accessible from either side, and just to the rear of the button, we have an ambidextrous sling point ideally suited to single-point slings but also useful for two-point sling setups if you add an aftermarket front sling point to the handguard. The stock has a textured butt plate and cheek rest, making it very comfortable to use in any position, and inside the stock tube is where we find the battery compartment of the 9mm SBR.
To access the battery compartment you will need to remove the stock and bars from the base and remove the rear plate of the stock tube. To remove the stock you will need to hold the adjustment button down and press the small pin which protrudes from the left side stock bar, after which the stock will slide off to the rear. With the stock removed you can then press the two tabs on the rear of the stock tube together which will allow it to come free. Inside you will see a mini-Tamiya battery connector to which you mount your battery of choice. For either variant of the King Arms 9mm SBR, we recommend a 7.4V 1300mAh LiPo battery in stick configuration, the same type which fits in the standard M4/AR15 buffer tube.
On the inside, the 9mm SBR has a built-in MOSFET to improve the trigger response and electrical efficiency of the platform, giving superb CQB potential in skirmish sites restricted to semi-automatic fire only. The steel gearset runs on 7mm ball-bearing bushings to reduce friction and prolong the life of the parts, and the version 2 gearbox is fully compatible with aftermarket upgrades for those who like to push the limits of performance.
The 9mm SBR replica is perfect for those Airsoft skirmishers who need a small and compact CQB platform and are conflicted between buying a Submachine Gun or a Rifle. Can't decide? Why not have the benefits of both?

Joule Charts
Special Instructions
These table can be used as a reference to see if the BB weight you are using will be over acceptable Joulage limits at some Airsoft Sites in the UK. To check if the weight can be used chrono your weapon using the BB you intend to use, and then compare it to the chart.
FPS, Power and Joule Limits can vary from site to site, so please get in touch with where you're going to play with in advance to avoid disappointment.
Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, with a 350fps limit for Automatic Replicas, 400fps for Semi-Automatic Replicas, and 500fps for Bolt Action Replicas.
Tap the tabs below to open the relevant chart for your replica.
This table should be used for reference, and cannot be used to check one weight against another, as the weight of the BB affects the power.
In order to check if the BB can be used with your replica chronograph using the weight you wish to use and then compare it against the table.
Every time you change weights you will need to re-chrono and check against the table. This is not a conversion chart between weights.
Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, and is the equivalent of 350fps, using 0.20g BB resulting in an upper limit of 1.14j.
