Description
If you're looking for an AR-9 AEG platform which stands out alongside others, the Evolution Reaper S EMR AR-9 AEG; ETS II ETU is a fine choice! Boasting an ultra-strong Carbontech™ polymer body and CNC aluminium handguard designed in Italy, this AR-9 is superbly made; a lightweight, performance-focussed build which doesn't compromise strength or fit and finish!
Inside, the Reaper S EMR is well equipped, rocking internals based around the prolific version 2 gearbox with full Tokyo Marui internal parts compatibility. Inside, we are equipped with 18:1 steel gears, a polymer piston with a steel tooth rack, a sector gear delayer, a quick change spring guide and the Evolution ETS II programmable MOSFET to top it off. Also inside is a 6.01mm tightbore inner barrel, offering superb accuracy with high-quality ammo and a boost in FPS from the same strength spring.
The ETS II is Evolution's own ETU/MOSFET; designed and manufactured in Italy and offers a massive range of programmable fire mode options along with quality-of-life features other ETUs lack. Fire mode options include 3 or 5-round burst, binary trigger, sniper delay, AUG mode and ramping full-auto; giving you the standard ETU options with extra specialised features, resulting in a highly versatile platform suitable for a range of battlefield roles!
Starting at the tip of the 8.5-inch outer barrel we can find an M4/AR-15 birdcage flash hider mounted to 14mm CCW male threading. The outer barrel is constructed from alloy to provide a strong backbone and keep the tightbore inner barrel nice and straight for perfect accuracy. If you want to mount a tracer unit, suppressor or alternative muzzle device all you need to do is unscrew the flash hider and mount your preferred device thanks to the common 14mm CCW threading at the tip of the barrel.
The CNC aluminium handguard is equipped with M-LOK negative space attachment slots at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions, ready for any M-LOK accessories to be directly mounted. M-LOK is one of the latest accessory interfaces to hit the market, both for real steel and Airsoft, allowing you to fit M-LOK vertical or angled grips directly, or mount 20mm Picatinny rail adapters for M-LOK to make use of 20mm Picatinny grips, flashlights and laser units.
With a 20mm Picatinny rail at the 12 o'clock position, the handguard also provides a mounting point for the included flip-up aperture iron sights which can either be left flipped down or removed entirely if you prefer to use a red dot sight or scope. The irons can be raised by hand but need the button on the left side to be pressed to fold them down, ensuring a mid-skirmish bump won't mean you lose your sights! The sights are also fully adjustable for both windage and elevation and offer two aiming apertures; one wide aperture for low-light work and full auto fire and a finer aperture well suited to bright conditions and accurate semi-automatic fire.
The handguard's upper Picatinny rail meets the 20mm rail on the receiver seamlessly, allowing large optical sights and red dot sight + magnifier combos the extra space they need to be mounted easily. The receiver itself is constructed from fibre-reinforced high-density polymer with a beautiful matte finish and a high-quality textured feel, keeping the weight low and the strength high, with added scratch resistance so the odd mid-skirmish bump or scrape doesn't mean your pride and joy looks scruffy.
Regarding the controls, this SMG is patterned after the M4/AR-15 platform, offering comfortable and well-placed controls that are easy to master for almost any user. The fire selector switch can be found on the left side of the receiver, just above the pistol grip, offering 3 modes of fire; SAFE, SEMI-AUTOMATIC and FULL AUTO, with a 90-degree throw between each mode. Being fitted with the Evolution ETS II MOSFET/ETU system, the Reaper S EMR is also able to be programmed for a variety of alternative fire modes, including burst mode, ramping full auto, binary trigger, AUG mode and sniper delay.
The magazine release is located centrally, just behind the magazine well, making it easy to operate for both left and right-handed shooters. This magazine release is definitely not one you will struggle to find in the heat of the moment; its prominent design and serrated contact surface mean fast reloads are a breeze, even with the adrenaline pumping!
The pistol grip of the Reaper S boasts a refined grip angle for greater comfort when shooting with the stock fully collapsed and in more modern shooting stances. Each flank of the pistol grip includes fine crackle texturing, with additional linear texture on the front and back straps for perfect wet weather handling. The trigger is a "flat" trigger with a short finger ledge and textured front, making it ideal for pumping out rapid semi-automatic shots. The trigger guard is built into the receiver, improving strength and allowing gloved fingers easier access to the trigger than the standard AR flat trigger guard.
The charging handle can be found at the top rear of the receiver and features an extended latch which protrudes on the left side for fast access and one-handed operation. When the charging handle is pulled, the mock bolt carrier will retract and reveal the rotary HOP-up unit within the mock ejection port. The rotary HOP-up unit is the latest design for the M4/AR-15 platform and improves on the older "gear" unit with finer increments of adjustment and improved ability to hold its setting under the vibrations of full auto fire.
The HOP-up allows the user to adjust the amount of backspin applied to the BB and tune it to provide optimum range and a stable flight path with various weights of BBs. For this SMG, we recommend 0.25g for the best combination of projectile speed, wind resistance, and range. When you have adjusted your HOP-up, you can release the charging handle to close the ejection port and flip up the dust cover to keep your internals protected from the elements.
At the rear of the receiver, we can find a steel sling plate, offering a sling loop on either side, ideal for left or right handed shooters. The sling plate location is ideal for single-point slings but can be used for a two-point sling if you add a sling mount to the handguard. Next up, we come to the M4/AR-15 buffer tube which is constructed from aluminium and offers 6 positions of adjustment so you can adjust the stock to suit your body type and loadout perfectly. The stock itself is the Crane stock, a very practical design in Airsoft terms with plenty of battery space inside.
The battery compartment is inside the crane stock, accessible by squeezing the two tabs at the toe of the stock together, after which you can lift the butt plate off, remove the battery plug and make use of the stock's built-in battery compartment to house a nunchuck/crane-style battery. Inside, you'll find a Deans battery connector to which you mount your battery. We recommend a 7.4V 1450mAh LiPo crane/nunchuck battery for an easy fit and great performance.
The Crane stock also includes a pair of QD sling sockets, one on each side, allowing for QD sling swivels to be added for a quick removable sling setup. Conventional sling slots (aka "footman loops") are also present for those who want a two-point sling but prefer the old-fashioned way. The butt plate is also made from grippy rubber, ensuring your Reaper S EMR doesn't slip off your shoulder at a critical moment.
Inside, the Reaper S EMR is rocking respectable internals based around the Version 2 gearbox, offering plenty of aftermarket upgrade options for the tuning addicts. The gearbox shell is alloy and reinforced, the 18:1 steel gearset runs on 8mm oil-less steel bushings, a sector gear delayer ensures feeding is reliable at high speeds and the polymer piston with full steel tooth rack provides low weight and strength in equal measure. The inner barrel also has a super-tight 6.01mm bore, giving the Reaper an accuracy edge with high-quality ammo and boosting FPS by enhancing air efficiency even more than common 6.03mm tightbore barrels!
The Evolution ETS II programmable ETU/MOSFET adds advanced functionality to the mix, offering programmable fire modes including 3 or 5-round burst, binary trigger, ramping full auto, sniper delay and AUG mode. Programming is carried out purely through the trigger and fire selector, meaning no extra parts are needed to take full advantage of the ETS II's advanced features. While alternative fire modes are great fun and very practical, the ETS II also offers several quality-of-life features, from auto motor diagnostics to low voltage cutoff and cycle completion, ensuring your gearbox is running efficiently with minimal parts wear.
If you're looking for an ultra-light yet strong AR-9 build with advanced internal functionality, the Evolution Reaper S EMR AR-9 AEG; ETS II ETU is a great choice. With a style which stands out next to other AR-9s, pre-upgraded internals and a wider range of fire mode options than most of its rivals, the Reaper S EMR is a unique and sleek piece of kit!
