  • DSG - 36 Rounds per second, 11.1V ready!

If you have dreams of a lightweight and compact SMG that shoots like a minigun, allow us to introduce you to the Novritsch SSR9 DSG. This phenomenal new AR-9 platform boasts an agile build combining a CNC aluminium handguard and high density polymer receiver and is rocking what is known as a Dual Sector Gear which effectively doubles the rate of fire to a phenomenal 36 rounds per second. This is the same RoF as the WELL PRO WE23-S Minigun; an incredible feat for such an affordable platform with only 1 barrel.

Speed is not the only trick up the SSR9's sleeve. The HOP-up unit is the rotary type with a numerically marked adjustment dial, kitted out with a Maple Leaf Macaron HOP-up bucking and 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel. Despite its short length and CQB optimisation, the SSR9 DSG is no slouch when it comes to long-range performance. If you like to move fast and need an AEG that can keep up, the Novritsch SSR9 DSG certainly can!

Description

If you're in the market for an AR-9 AEG and want the fastest out there, the Novritsch SSR9 DSG AEG is it. This lightweight SMG platform is equipped with a CNC aluminium M-LOK handguard, a unique Novritsch sound amplifier, a high density polymer receiver with enhanced controls and a compact PDW sliding stock, making it a real asset when it comes to combat in close quarters.

On the inside, the SSR9 DSG is easily the fastest Novritsch platform yet. Its absolutely incredible rate of fire of 36 rounds per second is a result of its 11.1V LiPo-ready build and 9:1 ratio Dual Sector Gear (DSG) gear set. A DSG gear set effectively doubles the rate of fire when compared to a standard 18:1 ratio set, providing two cycles for the compression (cylinder) group per single cycle of the gears. Pairing this with a programmable MOSFET, 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel and Maple Leaf Macaron HOP-up bucking makes the SSR9 a beast in every aspect but exceptional in a CQB scenario.

Starting at the front, we cannot help but notice the positively menacing drill-fluted sound amplifier mounted to the tip of the 6.5" outer barrel. The sound amp looks fantastic, featuring the iconic Novritsch swept-back design with the hallmark Novritsch drill fluting around its circumference.

With a reported 105 dB when fired, the sound amp makes a massive difference to the noise the SSR9 makes when shooting, giving you a psychological warfare edge when engaging up close. If you're more of a sneaky skirmisher, fear not! You can swap the sound amp out for a suppressor or tracer unit thanks to the 14mm CCW male barrel threading.

The SSR9 handguard fits the Novritsch aesthetic perfectly, being a slimline design with M-LOK negative space attachment slots at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions with additional M-LOK slots at the offset angles. The offset slots are ideal for mounting a tactical flashlight and keeping it tight into the handguard for a snag-free setup. At the 12 o'clock position, we are treated to a short section of 20mm Picatinny rail for a flip-up front sight, Runcam or PEQ laser with M-LOK slots following just behind.

Arriving at the receiver we can see gripping texture at the front of the magazine well, a handy feature for a CQB platform and well suited to unconventional stances and compressed shooting up close. The receiver itself follows the M4/AR-15 format, with an upper and lower receiver connected via body pins. On the centre left of the receiver, we can find the dummy bolt catch, which doesn't function but is nonetheless a separate part for added realism. The dummy forward assist is over on the right side of the upper, and again, does nothing but is present to appropriately simulate the layout of a real AR-9 SMG.

The fire selector is located just above the pistol grip and is easily accessible from a firing grip, sitting just beneath the thumb of the shooter. Its 90-degree throw makes the selector fast to use, but practically immune from being inadvertently knocked out of place. The SSR9 DSG has 3 modes of fire; Safe, semi-automatic and full automatic, which are indicated with recessed markings. The pre-installed MOSFET also allows binary trigger or 3-round burst to be programmed in using the fire controls of the SSR9 itself. Instructions can be found in the box and also on the Novritsch website.

This fire selector differs from the norm in its design, sporting a slightly higher profile with gripping texture on the top and bottom, and a recess in the centre. This is far more comfortable than the average AR selector and can be manipulated with ease thanks to its additional texture.

The charging handle is located at the top rear of the receiver and is an ambidextrous design, allowing left or right-handed users to access the HOP-up instinctively, with no funny body mechanics involved. Unlike many ambi charging handles, the latches on the Novritsch handle are compact and tight into the sides of the SSR9, reducing snag potential for more agile handling.

To access the rotary HOP-up adjuster of the SSR9 you will need to pull and hold the charging handle back which will open the dust cover and retract the mock bolt, presenting the HOP-up adjuster on the right side. This is a rotary adjuster unit, widely known as the best design for the M4/AR-15 and also benefits from a numerically marked adjustment dial, a handy enhancement added by Novritsch so you can keep track of your HOP-up setting. The pre-installed HOP-up bucking is a Maple Leaf Macaron, meaning exceptional range, accuracy and the ability to make good use of 0.28g BBs.

Moving down to the lower receiver we can take note of the textured ergonomic pistol grip and its comfortable and grippy dot texturing on either side. This ensures that even when sprinting hard in wet conditions, your SSR9 stays firmly in your hands as long as you do your part. The grip has a filled-out backstrap and a slightly more vertical angle than the usual which pairs perfectly with the ultra-short PDW stock, allowing for comfortable shooting with the stock fully collapsed in tight quarters.

The trigger is right where we would hope to find it, in the trigger guard, which is enlarged to allow gloved users to get their finger onto the trigger quickly when a sudden threat appears. The magazine release is on the right side of the magazine well and is easily reached with the trigger finger for a rapid M4/AR-15 style reload. The trigger itself is a flat "speed" style trigger with a small finger ledge, as we might expect from Novritsch. This trigger type is perfect for rapid semi-auto fire, letting you slap away at it without slipping off, putting down some game-winning firepower in CQB.

Following the receiver, we come to the stock which is a unique Novritsch PDW style sliding stock with impressive battery space. The stock boasts 2 adjustment positions and can be set to your length of choice via the prominent textured adjustment lever on the bottom. The stock bars are constructed from alloy to add strength where needed and the butt plate is textured and marked with the Novritsch logo.

The battery compartment can be accessed by setting the stock at its longest position and pulling the sliding catch on the rear of the buffer tube down. This allows the bottom of the tube to come free, revealing the Deans battery connector inside. We recommend an 11.1V 1100mAh LiPo stick battery for easy installation though you can just about fit an 11.1V 1300mAh nun-chuck LiPo inside as long as you're careful not to trap the wiring or squash your battery. This generous battery space is very rare for a PDW stock, which often requires 600-900mAh batteries at maximum. The SSR9 gives you the compact CQB-optimised form of a PDW stock with almost double the battery space!

Inside the SSR9, we are treated to all of the usual Novritsch internal enhancements, including a 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel paired with a Maple Leaf Macaron HOP-up bucking, a CNC aluminium piston head and cylinder head and a steel quick change spring guide. These reinforced low-friction parts improve the lifespan of the platform by getting ahead of known failure points in the version 2 gearbox design and also result in a smoother gearbox sound.

The highlight of the SSR9 DSG is definitely its 9:1 ratio CNC steel DSG gear set, pushing the rate of fire up to around 36 rounds per second on an 11.1V LiPo, making this a close competitor to the WELL PRO WE23-S Minigun! For an out-of-the-box DSG setup, this is remarkable, beating out other pre-built DSGs by a clear margin and rivalling positively insane Speedsoft custom builds.

If you want the fastest platform on-site with a light and agile build and plenty of accessory options, the Novritsch SSR9 DSG AEG is exactly that. 36 Rounds per second is downright terrifying, as is the lightning-fast semi-auto response of this CQB-optimised AR-9!
