Description
Starting at the tip of the barrel, we can find an AK47 muzzle device style thread protector, which can be unscrewed to reveal a 14mm CCW male thread. While it will assuredly make the AK purists scream, this thread allows you to add any muzzle device you want, including tracer units, mock suppressors and flash hiders of different styles. The thread is cast in alloy and is integrated into the front sight block for added strength. The front sight blade is a separate piece, which can be adjusted, and provides a simple flat blade which interfaces with the rear sight notch perfectly.
The outer barrel of the CM.028U is constructed from alloy, providing stability and rigidity where it is needed. This also helps add some realistic weight and handling to the AEG, giving it a more balanced feel. That said, the CM.028U does not weigh the same as the real AK (thank goodness!) but it tips the scales at a respectable 3kg, around the same weight as a comparable M4 or AR36 AEG rifle.
As we move rearward, we encounter the CM.028Us dummy gas block, and gas tube, which are realistically styled after the original AK47 production variant, the Type 3. The gas tube includes mock vents, and an alloy sling loop mounted to the barrel on the left side which is designed for "hook" type slings. Below the barrel we can find a realistic dummy cleaning rod which attaches to the front sight block and gas block, completing that classic AK47 look. The cleaning rod is too wide for use on an Airsoft AEG, but not to worry, the CM.028U includes a polymer cleaning and unjamming rod in the box!
To the rear of the gas block, we can find the CM.028Us polymer handguards, which are of a modern tactical style with vent holes and integrated 20mm Picatinny accessory rails. These rails allow any accessory designed for 20mm Picatinny/RIS to be attached in whatever configuration suits you. The top and bottom rails cover the full length of the handguard, and the side rails provide just enough space to mount a tactical flashlight or PEQ laser unit. Real-world examples of this AK configuration often use the top rail of the handguard to mount a reflex/red dot sight for rapid target acquisition, as do those seen in the famous Barrett 50 cal scene in The Hurt Locker(2008). The rails also provide an area to mount the included folding vertical foregrip, which can be used in its deployed position for more pointability in CQB, or folded as a standard handguard, but with a bit more gripping surface. If the look of the folding grip doesn't suit you, it can easily be swapped for any 20mm Picatinny compatible grip of your preference.
Next up, we reach the trunnion block, and receiver, within which lies the metal version 3 gearbox providing the CM.028U all of its shooty goodness. The rear sight can be found atop the trunnion block and can be adjusted for different ranges using the slider attached to the sight itself, without using any tools. This sight is a U-notch open sight, a style of sight which has its fair share of critics. For the purposes of Airsoft skirmishing, this sight has its advantages, predominantly not restricting your field of view in the way an aperture sight would, allowing you to track fast-moving, close range targets more effectively.
The receiver of the CM.028U is constructed from polymer, with a grey finish applied to match the tone of the parkerised finish applied to early AK47 rifles. The left side of the receiver features realistic mock pins and rivets, as well as a weight-reducing groove which is present on either side and is one of the tell-tale signs that this is an early style AK variant, replicating the Type 3 receiver faithfully.
At the rear of the left side of the receiver, we are treated to our second sling point, which is constructed from alloy and attaches to the inside of the polymer receiver. This sling point allows some flexibility, ensuring that with a 2 point sling installed you are able to carry the rifle comfortably without the sling snagging.
Moving to the right side of the receiver, we can find the mock bolt carrier, which can be pulled back and released, providing a satisfying "clack". Though this is not necessary to operate the CM.028U, it is a nice touch for realism. The bolt carrier is finished in silver, which is appropriate for this variant of AK rifle and accurate to the real AK47 Type 3. With the charging handle held back, we can find the slider adjuster for the CM.028Us adjustable HOP up unit. This device allows backspin to be applied to your BBs, stabilizing them whilst extending their range and improving their resistance to wind. The HOP unit can be adjusted and set for a wide range of BB weights, depending on your individual requirements and whether you play outdoors or in tight CQB sites. Moving back towards the controls, we can find one of the most "AK47-y" of this AK47 replicas features; its fire selector lever. The fire selector is configured in classic AK style, doubling as a dust cover, with the first position being "Safe", the middle position being fully automatic and the lowermost position indicating the semi-automatic mode. The fire selector is constructed from steel for added strength on this often used part of the AEG. The fire selector markings are moulded into the receiver, with authentic Russian Cyrillic letters denoting each mode.
At the bottom of the receiver, we can find the magazine well, magazine catch, trigger guard, and pistol grip. The pistol grip is an ergonomic finger ridged type, providing ample support for the web of the hand, and includes texturing to assist in handling the CM.028U in bad weather. The trigger guard is enlarged to allow for thick gloves to be used and is also constructed from steel, allowing this thin piece to maintain adequate strength. The magazine release can be found in front of the trigger guard and is a paddle type release which is accessible from either side, making it useful for both left and right-handed shooters. The magazine insertion method for the AK47 is "rock and lock" style, requiring the front of the magazine to be indexed first, and by rocking the magazine to the rear you can engage the magazine release and lock the magazine in place.
At the top of the receiver, the CM.028U sports a steel top receiver cover, which is an awesome feature for an AK at this price point! Beneath the receiver cover is where the battery is housed in the CM.028U, and the compartment can be accessed by pressing the button at the rear of the top cover, after which the cover can be removed. The internal battery space is enough to house a stick battery of up to 21cm in length. We recommend either a 7.4V LiPo or a 8.4/9.6V NiMh battery for the best performance and longevity. The battery connector supplied on the gun is a Mini-Tamiya type, allowing the most common type of Airsoft and RC battery to be used with no modifications necessary. Once you have connected the battery, the top cover can be placed back on and aligned with the button, which can be pushed back into position by pulling the charging handle to the rear.
Lastly, we arrive at the side folding stock, which can be folded in a similar manner to an FAL or Galil rifle, by pushing the stock down against its spring and overcoming the locking latch, which will allow the stock to fold to the left side of the AEG. This is very useful for CQB skirmishes, but even more useful when it comes to storage and transportation as it allows the CM.028U to fit into gun bags and hard cases considerably smaller than the rifle itself.
Internally the CM.028U has everything you need to compete on the Airsoft battlefield. The AEG sports one of the best HOP designs out there, with excellent consistency and the ability to quickly set it in-game if needed. The metal version 3 gearbox features steel gears and has an M100 spring pre-installed, providing around 340 FPS +/-10% straight out of the box. If you are looking for something with a bit of Ruskie styling, but still want all those fancy western accessories mounted, you can't go wrong with a Cyma CM.028U!

Joule Charts
Special Instructions
These table can be used as a reference to see if the BB weight you are using will be over acceptable Joulage limits at some Airsoft Sites in the UK. To check if the weight can be used chrono your weapon using the BB you intend to use, and then compare it to the chart.
FPS, Power and Joule Limits can vary from site to site, so please get in touch with where you're going to play with in advance to avoid disappointment.
Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, with a 350fps limit for Automatic Replicas, 400fps for Semi-Automatic Replicas, and 500fps for Bolt Action Replicas.
Tap the tabs below to open the relevant chart for your replica.
This table should be used for reference, and cannot be used to check one weight against another, as the weight of the BB affects the power.
In order to check if the BB can be used with your replica chronograph using the weight you wish to use and then compare it against the table.
Every time you change weights you will need to re-chrono and check against the table. This is not a conversion chart between weights.
Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, and is the equivalent of 350fps, using 0.20g BB resulting in an upper limit of 1.14j.
