If you're sick to death of M4/AR-15 AEGs, who can blame you? The Novritsch SSR77 A2 AUG AEG is a breath of fresh air, based on the old-school-cool AUG design with modern attachment interfaces and pre-upgraded internals throughout, ideal for the skirmisher who wants a unique primary platform with performance to match the latest M4 AEGs to hit the market.

On the outside, the SSR77 A2 is dressed to impress, boasting a unique CNC aluminium M-LOK handguard, reduced profile upper 20mm Picatinny rail and a pair of QD sling sockets on each side, ready to be decked out like the most cutting edge M4s. Inside, things are even more impressive! This is one of the first AUG replicas to hit the market with a programmable MOSFET pre-installed, meaning SSR77 owners can join the SSR4, UTR45 and Gate TITAN owners enjoying burst mode, binary trigger and several levels of pre-cocking adjustment. If you've ever mourned that all the sick technology is in M4 replicas, the SSR77 A2 AUG AEG should put a smile back on your face!

Description

If you like the way Novritsch AEGs shoot but seek a more exciting, lesser-seen shape, check out the Novritsch SSR77 A2 AUG AEG! This beast replicates the AUG bullpup, service rifle of Austria, Ireland and Australia with a unique Novritsch facelift boasting all of the most modern attachment interfaces in Airsoft. These include a new M-LOK handguard, ready for the latest mission essential accessories, a lower profile top rail similar to the real steel AUG A3 and QD sling sockets on either side, ready to mount a sling via QD sling swivels.

Inside, things get even better! The SSR77 A2 is rocking a CNC aluminium HOP-up unit equipped with the Novritsch Infinity Flat HOP-up bucking, promising superb long-range performance as Novritsch platforms are known for. The gearbox is equipped with a CNC aluminium nozzle, 16:1 ratio CNC steel high-speed gears and a programmable ETU/MOSFET system, bringing the old AUG design into line with modern M4/AR-15, AR-36 and SMG-5 platforms. If you want a unique AEG which shoots as nicely as the SSR4 series, grab yourself a Novritsch SSR77 A2 AUG AEG!

The outer barrel of the SSR77 A2 is equipped with 14mm CCW male threading, meaning if you want to add a tracer unit or suppressor, it is as simple as removing the grub screw in the pre-installed flash hider and unscrewing it. The flash hider itself is a near-perfect match for the real steel AUG A3 muzzle brake and looks fantastic as it is, though if you're a function over form skirmisher you can replace it with a muzzle device of your choice.

Following the flash hider, we come to the CNC Aluminium handguard, a unique addition by Novritsch not found on real steel AUG rifles. The handguard gives the AUG much more modern handling qualities than the original STG77 or SSR77 A1, giving you plenty of space for your trendy "C-clamp" grip and 6 rows of M-LOK slots, ready for M-LOK accessories. The handguard is super light and doesn't upset the rearward centre of balance of the standard AUG at all, making this one of the few AUGs on the market with extended handguards which don't weigh a ton and handle like a pig!

On the right side of the barrel we can find the dummy gas adjuster of the SSR77 A2, hidden beneath the handguard but visible from the dangerous end of the rifle. This part does nothing on the Airsoft AUG, but on the real rifle, it allows the flow of gas from the operating system to be adjusted for use in normal and adverse conditions. Dummy parts like this are always great to see on Airsoft replicas as they keep the looks realistic and faithful to the real firearm.

Just like the real AUG, the SSR77 A2 has a hot swap barrel system. This means you can quickly remove the outer barrel for maintenance and upgrades, saving you time if you're the techy type. To remove the outer barrel you will need to lock the charging handle back and up into its "safety notch" and push and hold the catch found on the left side of the receiver, between the folding front grip and the trigger guard. With the barrel removal catch held down, the barrel can be rotated by just a few degrees clockwise with the barrel facing away, and you can pull the entire outer barrel out. This is only recommended for essential maintenance and upgrades; if you do it too frequently or do it wrong, you can damage the SSR77 and render it useless!

The upper receiver of the SSR77 A2 is constructed from aluminium to provide a realistic feel, weight and balance, featuring a 20mm Picatinny rail running along the top, ready for your red dot sight or scope. Novritsch markings can be found on the right side, readying "NOVRITSCH SSR77 A2", laser engraved in the unique Novritsch logo font. This receiver style is a great match for the real steel AUG A3 in its short-barrelled iteration but has a reduced profile section in the centre for weight reduction.

Over on the left side of the upper, we can see the charging handle of the SSR77 A2, a perfect match for that of the real steel AUG. This handle is constructed from high-density polymer and connects to an aluminium rod inside the receiver which actuates the mock bolt to reveal the rotary HOP-up adjuster inside the ejection port. The charging handle can be locked by pulling it to its rearmost point of travel and rotating it upwards into its "safety notch". Being a Novritsch platform, the HOP-up of the SSR77 A2 is something special; a CNC machined rotary unit with the Novritsch Infinity Flat HOP-up bucking pre-installed, pushing effective range out way beyond most other AEGs.

The HOP-up adjuster can be accessed from either side of the AEG thanks to its ambidextrous ejection port design. Out of the box the left side ejection port is covered with a rubber cap, but like the real AUG, this can be removed and placed on the right side. In real steel terms, this is part of how you set the AUG up for left or right-handed use. With the SSR77, you also have the option of leaving the cap off the AEG entirely so you can more easily adjust the HOP-up setting on the fly mid-skirmish.

The controls of the AUG are quite different to most conventional rifles but are very well designed and functional for both left and right-handed shooters. The safety catch is a push-through design located just above the pistol grip, and when the safety protrudes on the right side the rifle is on safe and the trigger is locked. Pushing the safety through so it protrudes on the left will release the trigger lock and allow you to give the enemy team what for! The AUG makes use of a two-stage trigger system, meaning a short pull of the trigger will fire semi-automatic and a full pull to the rear will fire fully automatic. If you need to suddenly put a burst down range to deal with a moving target, it is faster to switch modes with the SSR77 than practically any other AEG out there!

Being equipped with a programmable ETU/MOSFET system, the SSR77 can be programmed for 3-round burst mode, binary trigger and 5 levels of adjustable pre-cocking. As far as we know, this is the first AUG replica which includes these advanced features straight out of the box, saving you time and money if you want this AUG to be as advanced inside as it looks on the outside!

The grip and stock of the SSR77 A2 AUG are integrated into one piece as a part of its space-age design, known as the "chassis" of the rifle. This piece is constructed from high-density reinforced polymer, keeping weight to a minimum while maintaining high strength. The trigger guard is a super wide "grip length" trigger guard which is largely responsible for the AUG's recognisable silhouette and allows fast access to the trigger even if you use thick winter gloves when skirmishing. This trigger guard can also do double duty as an angled foregrip for use in compressed stances in CQB situations.

The magazine release can be found on the bottom of the stock, just behind the magazine well, and is centrally positioned to allow for both left and right-handed use. This magazine release was way ahead of its time, and somehow despite being one of the first modern bullpup rifles to enter the market, the AUG nailed it the first time. Unlike the Tavor, there is no chance that you will accidentally hit the mag release and dump your magazine, and unlike the L85 you don't have to be purebred right-handed to operate it efficiently.

The SSR77 A2 battery compartment is located inside the stock and can be accessed by simply pulling the rubber butt plate off. Inside you will find a Deans battery connector and a decently sized battery compartment which can comfortably house either stick, block or nun-chuck-style LiPo batteries. For the SSR77 A2, we recommend an 11.1V 1300mAh LiPo in block configuration for an easy fit and fantastic performance.

Inside the SSR77, we are treated to the usual complement of Novritsch pre-upgraded parts. These include 16:1 ratio CNC steel gears, a CNC aluminium nozzle, CNC aluminium HOP-up unit and the impressive Novritsch Infinity flat HOP-up bucking. These parts join the programmable ETU/MOSFET, resulting in incredibly advanced out-of-the-box features practically unheard of in an AUG replica. In our tests, the SSR77 sounded incredibly smooth and performed fantastically at long range, as we might expect for a Novritsch platform.

If you like the way the SSR4 shoots but want a more interesting and unique external design, the Novritsch SSR77 A2 AUG AEG is one to watch. Its CNC aluminium handguard keeps handling at the cutting edge and the presence of QD sling sockets and M-LOK slots makes this AUG ready for 21st-century combat!
