Description
If you want a tactical SMG packed with some of the best internal parts available, the CM.041G SMG-5 AEG is just what you need! Similar to the original Platinum version, this replica boasts some of the best high-speed E-Edition internals and now comes with the popular EShooter Kestrel Basic programmable MOSFET/ETU pre-installed.
The Kestrel offers programmable fire modes and a host of quality-of-life features, bringing the CM.041G Platinum series into line with more recent releases. These include 3-round burst and binary trigger fire mode options, adjustable pre-cocking, active braking, cycle completion, low battery warning and low/high voltage protection. Also present in the CM.041G is the usual complement of CYMA high-speed internals, including 13:1 gears running on 8mm ball-bearing bushings, a high-speed motor, CNC aluminium "silent" compression parts, a double O-ring piston head and a quick change ball-bearing spring guide.
Naturally, CYMA's usual SMG slider HOP-up unit and 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel are also present, giving you above-average accuracy potential and the ability to deal with foes at long range. If you're stepping up from a beginner-tier platform or looking for a slick modern SMG to add to the collection, the CM.041G will definitely do the trick!
At the tip of the barrel, we have an SMG-5 QD flash hider, which can be quickly removed to provide access to the threaded tri-lug muzzle device beneath. On the left side, we also find our first sling point, which is integral to the front sight block and is perfect for hook-style two-point or three-point slings.
To remove the flash hider, all you need to do is press the textured tab on its outer rim, and the flash hider will come straight off. The barrel threading is protected by a knurled thread protector and is threaded to the most common Airsoft standard, 14mm CCW male threads. This means adding a tracer unit or suppressor is no problem if you want a sneaky look or some extra intimidation factor for CQB.
Moving rearwards we come to the front sight, which is a classic SMG-5 design with a fixed front post protected from drops with a protective ring which surrounds the sight post. This sight aligns well with the rear rotary drum dioptre aperture sight, found on the rear of the receiver, and is widely known as a fantastic built-in sight system, though with its M-LOK/Picatinny hybrid upper rail, this SMG-5 would benefit a lot from adding a red dot sight for faster target acquisition.
The rear sight provides four apertures for aiming, intended for different ranges and ambient lighting conditions, which can easily be switched between thanks to its knurled outer surface. To adjust the rear sight for windage you can loosen the screw in the base on the right side and slide the rear sight back and forth in its base.
Following the front sight we come to the handguard of the CM.041G which boasts M-LOK attachment slots at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions, with an SMG-5K style vertical grip/hand stop pre-installed at the 6 o'clock position. This grip is amazing, but if you want to swap it out, you can thanks to the M-LOK attachment interface. M-LOK can be used to mount tactical flashlights, vertical and angled grips and also 20mm Picatinny rail adapters in case you want to use the older but more common 20mm accessories.
Above the handguard, we come to the cocking tube of the CM.041G which is constructed from robust alloy with a lovely flat black finish applied. Within you will find the cocking handle, which is a modernised design which is optimised for gloved use and profiled such that it is slightly easier to access from the left side. Pulling the cocking handle rearwards allows it to be locked into its "safety notch", which will open the ejection port on the right side of the receiver to allow for HOP-up adjustment.
Running along the top of the cocking tube and receiver we have a hybrid M-LOK/Picatinny top rail which allows for M-LOK attachment at the front and provides a 20mm Picatinny rail at the rear. This rail is perfect for adding an M-LOK mounted tactical flashlight up front and a red dot sight on the 20mm rail. Innovations like this allow compact weapons like the SMG-5 to keep up with longer weapons like the M4, providing plenty of room for the mission essential kit we all love to dress our primaries up with. Now your SMG-5 can look as slick and battle-ready as your MK18!
The receiver follows the familiar SMG-5 format but with some choice enhancements to help this 60s-era SMG turn and burn in CQB with the more modern stuff. The magazine release is ambidextrous and is located at the rear of the magazine well with an additional polymer extension added to allow for one-handed mag drops. The fire selector is ambidextrous, located just above the pistol grip for fast access.
The super short 45-degree throw between selector modes makes this SMG-5 extremely fast and easy to switch from safe to fire, and the selector is positioned so the opposite side selector does not dig into your hand when the SMG is set to full auto. Each fire mode is indicated with red and white coloured bullet pictograms, in iconic SMG-5 style. The trigger of the CM.041G is another feature which departs from the SMG-5 norm, being a flat trigger design to allow for super fast semi-auto fire, with a small ledge at the bottom to keep your trigger finger where it needs to be.
Either side of the receiver features grooves which both serve to reinforce it and to allow for the SMG-5 sliding stock to travel within. The ejection port is located on the right side of the receiver and provides access to the HOP-up unit when the charging handle is locked to the rear. The adjuster is the "slider" type and can be actuated by hand. The adjustable HOP-up allows you to vary the amount of backspin applied to your BBs and tune your AEG for your ammo weight of choice.
The CM.041G, like most SMG-5 AEGs, provides two methods for releasing the magazine. In front of the trigger guard, on the bottom of the AEG is an ambidextrous paddle-type magazine release with a polymer extension for fast access regardless of the size of your hands. The primary mag release is accessible from either side and can also be actuated using the trigger finger. As an alternative, for Americans and others who don't understand how to use anything other than an AR15 magazine release, the CM.041G provides an AR15-style button release just above the magazine release on the right side, right where you would expect it.
The pistol grip follows a familiar profile, comfortably filling the hand and providing support where it is needed. The material used on the polymer parts of the CM.041G is a textured fibre-reinforced type, similar to the material used on the real version of this AEG, and is rock solid, with no creak, flex or wobble, and a satisfying high-quality feel.
The CM.041G differs from other SMG-5K and SMG-5PDW AEGs primarily due to its M4/AR15 style PDW stock. The stock attaches to the rear of the PDW using its two-pin attachment method, and this stock can be exchanged for an end plate or other SMG-5K/PDW compatible stocks. The stock end plate comes with a sling point built-in at the rear, just below the stock, which is well suited to use with a single-point tactical sling.
The stock can be extended or retracted by pressing the textured stock adjustment catch on the right side of the stock, after which the butt plate can be pulled and the stock will extend and lock into your chosen position. The stock provides 5 positions of adjustment, allowing you to set the AEG up for your loadout, regardless of whether you run a hefty aggressive loadout with a plate carrier or run a light and fast chest rig or belt setup.
The butt plate is more low-profile than most stocks and includes linear texture for enhanced grip. The small footprint of the butt plate means the AEG is easier to manipulate up close with reduced chances of a snag slowing you down, especially if you wear a plate carrier.
The battery compartment of the CM.041G can be found within the buffer tube of the PDW stock and can be accessed by extending the stock and then unthreading the rear cap of the buffer tube. Inside you will find a Deans battery connector to which you mount your choice of Airsoft battery. For some, reading the words "PDW Stock" in an AEG description means a tiny battery compartment, and changing your battery frequently. We are happy to report that this is not an issue for the CM.041G thanks to the extension to the stock provided by the stock mount base. As such, for the CM.041G, we recommend an 11.1V 600mAh PDW type stick battery for the best fit and performance.
The highlight of this revamped CM.041G build is its Kestrel Basic ETU/MOSFET, offering 6 levels of adjustable pre-cocking, options for 3 round burst and binary trigger along with low battery warning, cycle completion, active braking and low/high voltage cutoff. This means you can crank up the trigger response for super fast double taps or run the CM.041G with SAFE-SEMI-3RND BURST fire controls. Also inside is a 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel, giving you superb accuracy potential and the latest HOP-up design for M4/AR-15 platforms.
The astonishing rate of fire and trigger response of the CM.041G is down to the CYMA Platinum E-Edition internals, primarily its CNC machined steel 13:1 high-speed gearset and high-speed motor. The gearbox shell is also reinforced in all the key places for a long lifespan, and inside you will find 8mm ball bearing bushings, a CNC machined aluminium silent piston head and cylinder head set, a polycarbonate piston with a full rack of steel teeth and a ball bearing quick change spring guide. It is no wonder the CM.041G absolutely shreds, there is little left to upgrade!
If you want a rapid SMG perfect for shredding enemies at any range, you can't get much better than the CYMA Platinum CM.041G SMG-5 AEG; Kestrel Basic ETU! This Modern SMG is every player's dream in terms of out-of-the-box performance and agility whilst out on the battlefield.
