CYMA CM.068D M4 Keymod Long AEG

The CM.068D is a rock solid, full metal M4/AR15 platform AEG with high speed external setup, with a lightweight KeyMod handguard and a muzzle brake for that modern tactical rifle look. The CM.068D uses a 14.5" URX4 style handguard, a more modern design which utilises negative space attachment to keep the front end light and easy to manoeuvre. The handguard also comes with 3 20mm Picatinny rail adapters pre-installed, allowing you to make use of the super common 20mm rail accessories out of the box. Being longer than its closely related cousin, the CM.068B, this rifle is even more suited to the DMR role and would be a true asset in an outdoors skirmish!

Starting at the tip of the barrel we can see the steel muzzle brake, finished in a dull gunmetal grey to add some contrast and give the CM.068D a look that means business! This muzzle brake attaches to 14mm CCW male threads at the tip of the alloy 16 inch outer barrel, allowing any 14mm CCW threaded accessory to be attached as an alternative to the muzzle brake, so if you fancy the DMR look, you can add a suppressor or tracer easily.

Next up, we reach the URX4 style 14.5" KeyMod handguard, which is free-floated along its entire length, preventing any force applied to the handguard from affecting the barrel alignment. This handguard provides a 20mm Picatinny rail at the 12 o'clock position and KeyMod negative space attachment slots at the 1:30, 3, 4:30, 6, 7:30, 9, and 10:30 positions around the circumference of the handguard. This provides excellent flexibility in mounting options, allowing you to use the angled attachment surfaces to add tactical flashlights and other accessories in a location which fits your body type and style. 

The extended length of this handguard provides a wealth of space for additional accessories but also allows you to reach out with your hand in line with the modern "c-clamp" shooting style. The handguard comes with 3 KeyMod to Picatinny rail adapters pre-installed; a single 9 slot section and two 5 slot sections. These rail sections can be moved around or removed entirely, depending on your personal requirements and those of the mission!

Moving rearwards, we arrive at the receiver, which is of a familiar M4/AR15 layout with a 20mm Picatinny rail running across its upper surface for the addition of optical sights. The CM.068D comes with a pair of flip up iron sights pre-installed on the upper receiver rail and on the handguard. These sights provide adjustable front post which is protected with wings and an ultra-fine aperture at the rear which can also be adjusted for both windage and elevation. 

To deploy the sights, simply lift the sights up using the relief cut in the front sight, and the knurled adjuster on the rear sight, after which the sight will lock into place with the help of a spring assist mechanism in the sight base. To fold the sights, simply push them back down, the spring assist will hold them in place until they are needed.

The fire selector can be found on the left side of the AEG sitting conveniently beneath the shooter's thumb. The selector is an extended design with angled serrations on the upper and lower surface to guarantee positive control. This fire selector provides 3 positions, SAFE, SEMI and AUTO denoted with engraved markings, with a 90-degree throw between modes of fire. 

The magazine release of the CM.068D is also an extended design, with ambidextrous functionality allowing both left-handed and right-handed users to carry out fast reloads with drop-free capability. Each of the magazine release buttons have textured surfaces to ensure your finger doesn't slip in wet weather, or when covered in mud.

The mock bolt release catch can be found in the center of the left side of the receiver and can be used to release the mock bolt when it has been locked open for HOP adjustment. The charging handle is found at the top center of the upper receiver and can be pulled back to open the dust cover on the right side and retract the mock bolt, revealing the gear adjustable alloy HOP unit. This unit is the legacy gear design and can provide fast adjustments, and is stronger than most HOP units due to its alloy construction. To the rear of the dust cover and mock ejection port, we can find the AR15 brass deflector and forward assist, both of which serve no function in an Airsoft AEG but are nonetheless essential for realistic looks.

The CM.068D's pistol grip is a close replica of the real world MP grip, with a refined grip shape with texturing on either side for optimal grip, and linear checkering at the front and rear straps. This grip also has a filled-out backstrap, allowing a more consistent and comfortable hold on the rifle. This grip is regarded as one of the more comfortable alternatives to the standard "A2" grip as all of the edges are reprofiled, removing any "hot points" of contact which can cause discomfort. This pistol grip pairs well with the enlarged trigger guard, which allows for effective gloved use of the CM.068D. These two parts give the AEG a customized feel, even when it only just came out of the box!

Arriving at the rear we can find the steel ambidextrous sling plate, which mounts to the rear of the receiver between it and the buffer tube. This plate provides two sling mounting points, one on either side, which are perfectly suited to slings with a "hook" style attachment method. With just the sling plate installed you can add a single point sling straight away, but with an additional sling point added to the RAS handguard, the rifle can be set up with a 2 or 3 point sling. 

To the rear of the sling plate, we can find a standard M4/AR15 6 position buffer tube, which is constructed from alloy and comes with a VLTR style "club foot" battery stock installed. This stock provides the same amount of space as a standard crane battery stock but in a more unique exterior flavour. The club foot stock features a low profile adjustment lever, skeletonised design for weight reduction, and QD sling sockets on either side, together with a sling slot for a more traditional sling.

At the rear of the stock we can find a grippy rubber butt pad, complete with chevron checkering to ensure it doesn't slip when shouldered. To install the battery in the CM.068D, simply squeeze the two tabs at the toe of the stock together, then, once the tabs are removed from the body of the stock, pull the butt plate down to remove it. With the butt plate removed you should be able to pull out the battery cap, revealing the dual battery compartment in a similar manner to that of a crane stock. We recommend a 7.4V 1300mAh LiPo battery for the CM.068D for optimum fitment.

Internally the CM.068D has some impressive parts inside, the likes of which are usually added as aftermarket upgrades! The CM.068D sports the standard internal enhancements of CYMA's full metal series, with 8mm bearing bushings to ensure the gearbox runs smoothly with minimal friction, and a ball bearing spring guide to reduce strain on the rear of the gearbox during cycling. 

The best feature of the CM.068D is without a doubt its piston head and cylinder head setup, both of which are "silent" types. This both reduces the noise of the gearbox cycling and reduces stress on the front of the gearbox from the impact of the piston. Coupled with its high torque motor which uses neodymium magnets, this AEG cycles quickly and quietly, with minimal fuss and an impressive trigger response!

So, if you are looking for a modern tactical rifle-style AEG, you cannot go far wrong with the CM.068D! This AEG would also make a great DMR base gun, with its tight bore inner barrel, pre-installed silent cylinder head and piston head, high torque motor capable of handing stronger springs, and it's longer than average length.
