CYMA CM.009B M16A1 AEG; Platinum Edition

The M16A1 is what everyone pictures when they imagine an assault rifle, and it is no surprise! This platform is the granddaddy of the M4A1 and once served with all the big names, from the US Army and Marine Corps during the Vietnam conflict to our very own SAS and Royal Marine Commandos during the Falklands Conflict and numerous other outings.

While it may be getting long in the teeth, the lightweight, utilitarian design of the M16A1 makes it a fantastic platform for anyone looking for a long range primary which is still easy to move with and doesn't become burdensome to carry over long-duration ops. This, the CYMA Platinum M16A1 also shoots like an absolute beast, boasting a 509mm 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel, alloy rotary HOP-up unit, pre-installed MOSFET and a high torque motor for the snappy response any accuracy focussed long range setup needs. Whether you're working on your Vietnam setup, Falklands kit or you simply have a taste for the classics, the CYMA CM.009B is a superb choice!

Starting at the front, we have a steel M16A1 type birdcage flash hider mounted to 14mm CCW male barrel threads. This is the perfect device for the rifle as it comes, though if you want to add a tracer unit or suppressor you can thanks to the common 14mm CCW male barrel threading.

Following the super skinny 20-inch pencil profile outer barrel rearwards, we come to the front sight/gas block assembly which includes the front sight post, bayonet lug and front sling point. The front sling point can be paired with the rear sling point on the bottom of the stock to mount a two-point sling, making carrying the rifle easier, especially when used with a sidearm. The front sight post itself is adjustable for elevation for a perfect zero, with windage adjustments being applied on the rear sight. The bayonet lug is compatible with rubber dummy bayonets so if you want a proper Airsoft melee experience, this is the gun for the job!

Behind the front sight, we come to the handguard which is the iconic triangular M16A1 handguard, completing the old-school look. These handguards are remarkably comfortable, with a gentle taper from the front to the rear, giving you plenty of options when it comes to where and how you hold the rifle. Visible through the ports on the top of the handguard, we can see a realistic dummy gas tube which runs from the front sight all the way back to the receiver, just like the real thing.

Following the handguards, we arrive at the receiver which is 100% period accurate for the M16A1. The finish is a gun metal grey paint, matching the real rifle perfectly. The lower receiver is an A1 fully fenced type with the correct lack of strengthening around the front receiver pinhole and a full magazine release fence machined in, giving it that distinctive A1 profile.

The fire selector is on the left side and lies comfortably beneath the thumb when taking a firing grip. The markings "SAFE- SEMI-AUTO" appear on both sides of the receiver and are machined in, pairing well with the period accurate nature of the CM.009B. The magazine release can be found on the right side of the receiver, protected from accidental magazine drops by the "magazine catch fence", which is machined as part of the lower receiver, preventing your mag from falling out if your rifle rubs against your gear as you move.

The upper receiver is an A1 type, featuring a fixed A1 carry handle with A1 aperture sights on the top and a "teardrop" forward assist but no brass deflector on the right side, as should be expected for a realistic M16A1 replica. The charging handle can be found at the top rear of the receiver, and when pulled, locks the mock bolt to the rear giving you access to the rotary adjustable HOP-up inside the ejection port. The HOP-up unit allows you to tune the CM.009B for your choice of ammo weight, looking for the flattest possible trajectory. When you have completed your adjustment, the mock bolt can then be released using the "ping pong paddle" bolt release, found on the left side of the receiver. A nice touch adding to the realism of this already super-realistic AEG!

The pistol grip of the CM.009B is an A1 type, with checkering on both sides to provide a grippy surface without the finger groove found on A2 grips, which some find less comfortable. The grip has a heat sink motor base plate, allowing the AEG's motor to cool between extended strings of fire. On the left side of the lower receiver you will find your unique serial number, an excellent feature for theft prevention and to help you identify which rifle is yours in the safe zone.

Bringing up the rear, we have an M16A1 fixed stock with a sling point mounted on the bottom, ideally paired with the front sling point and a two-point rifle sling. The stock is constructed from high density polymer and features a quick-access battery compartment and a textured butt plate for enhanced grip. To access the battery compartment, simply pull the sliding catch at the top of the hatch downwards, after which the hatch can be opened, revealing a Deans/T-plug battery connector inside. For an easy fit and great performance, we recommend an 11.1V 1300mAh LiPo battery in stick configuration but the stock can potentially house larger batteries if you remove the butt plate entirely.

The internals of the CM.009B are considerably upgraded; exactly what you would expect from a CYMA Platinum AEG. The version 2 gearbox inside features 8mm steel ball bearing bushings, a ball bearing spring guide, an aluminium silent piston and cylinder head and a polycarbonate piston with steel teeth. This combination of parts is proven to be reliable, and a considerable upgrade over most AEGs in this price range. To get all this good stuff spinning quickly and reliably, a high torque motor with Neodymium magnets is installed, improving trigger response and allowing for stronger springs to be used.

The gearbox also features a quick change spring system, accessible through the stock using the included Allen key, allowing the velocity to be increased or reduced depending on your local site's limits. To keep these high end internals well-timed and running at their best, CYMA has pre-installed a MOSFET processor unit, The MOSFET provides active braking to prevent your gearbox from over spinning and protect the electrical components inside, as well as raising the rate of fire and trigger response. The inner barrel is a 6.03mm tightbore measuring 363mm in length, giving this AEG excellent accuracy and consistency, even more so with its generous 509mm overall length.
