Description
The IWI Magnum Research Desert Eagle originated in 1982, designed as a target shooting pistol with some seriously unique design attributes, let alone its sheer size. The first variant of the Desert Eagle was chambered in .357 magnum, which is a big round, but as the years went by, Magnum Research sought even more power, first with a .44 magnum chambered variant, and later with MR's own calibre, the mighty .50AE.
The Desert Eagle captured the imaginations of action movie fans worldwide for its role as the sidearm of the agents in The Matrix, Arnold Schwarzenegger in Eraser and more recently in The Suicide Squad, carried by Rick Flag and Christopher "Peacemaker" Smith. This is probably the most popular and iconic pistol in Hollywood and is without equal in the big boy pistol category (sorry, Automag!).
Starting at the tip of the 6.3-inch alloy outer barrel we can find no threading, as usual with Desert Eagles. Instead, we can see detailed mock rifling at the tip of the gaping barrel, exactly as it should be. The inner barrel is slightly recessed inside the muzzle, meaning if you do use this Deagle for a video you can get those nice down-the-barrel shots without revealing the Airsoft origins of your prop. Just above the muzzle, we can see the front sight post which is set into a dovetail and has anti-glare texturing on its surface to allow for perfect visibility in bright ambient light.
The slide setup of the Desert Eagle is a bit different to most pistols as it uses a "split slide", meaning only the rear of the slide reciprocates with each shot and the slide front and barrel stay fixed in position. This gives the Deagle above average accuracy potential for a GBB pistol and also helps with gas efficiency, providing immersive recoil without making things too sluggish. This design aspect is owed to the original Desert Eagle, so thanks IWI for making your hand cannon so Airsoft friendly!
At the top of the outer barrel, we can find a flattened area with two slots cut in. On the real pistol, this can be used similarly to a Picatinny rail, allowing for a long eye relief pistol scope to be mounted for target shooting applications. Compatibility wise all we can tell is that the flattened section measures 22mm wide, the same as a 20mm Picatinny rail. We would love to test some scopes out on this but we cannot bring ourselves to potentially mar the finish of one of only 300 examples of this pistol ever made.
The HOP-up unit of the Desert Eagle Poker Edition is found inside the outer barrel and can be accessed following a field strip. To field strip the pistol, first remove the magazine and rack the slide. Next, hold the button on the left side just above the trigger guard down, and rotate the catch on the opposite side counter-clockwise by approximately 45 degrees towards the muzzle of the pistol. With this complete you should be able to remove the outer barrel from the frame, leaving the slide in situ. If you look down the barrel from the chamber end you will see a rotary dial with a larger protrusion at the top. This is your HOP-up dial, and can be turned to the left to increase the HOP-up effect, and to the right to reduce it. We recommend using a small Allen key or similar tool to turn the adjuster, as we doubt your fingers are small enough to get to it, especially if you rock a Desert Eagle!
Following the outer barrel, we come to the slide itself which is constructed from alloy with deep serrations on either side to promote positive grip when racking the pistol. The rear sight is found at the top rear of the slide and is a wide squared-off notch which aligns perfectly with the anti-glare front sight. The view down the sights of the Desert Eagle leaves no question that this pistol was designed for accuracy, as the sight picture is absolutely perfect, the sight base is nice and long and the front sight doesn't move when the slide cycles, making for faster follow-up shots.
The rear of the slide is where we can find the ambidextrous safety, and despite the fact that it looks miles away from the controls it is still easily reached with the thumb from a firing grip due to the textured extension added to the front of the lever. We recommend using your off-hand thumb to actuate the selector to gain extra leverage as it is quite firm. When the red enamel dot on the slide is revealed, the pistol is ready to fire, with the safety lowered to cover the red dot the pistol is on safe and the trigger is locked. This fire selector also has a third mode, the fun switch, aka full auto. With the selector in the uppermost position you have full auto selected, but make sure you hold on tight as this big boy of a pistol really kicks hard!
The frame is constructed from high density polymer and has a 20mm Picatinny rail built in at the front in the perfect spot to mount a laser or tactical flashlight. This rail is nice and long so if you wanted to do something unconventional with this Deagle you have plenty of options. Moving rearwards along the frame we come to the trigger guard which has a recurved front face allowing for extra recoil control by positioning your off-hand trigger finger on the front in the "European grip" style. The slide release catch is located on the left side and is an extended design with deep serrations on its surface for extra grip. The mag release is a low profile button style release located where the trigger guard meets the frame in a familiar position for Hi-capa, 1911 and Glock users.
The rear of the frame has what is known as an "extended beavertail" which protrudes at the rear, providing support for the web of your hand for better comfort and protecting it from "slide bite". On the left side of the frame rear, just above the grips is where you will find your unique serial number as one of only 300 Desert Eagle Poker Edition owners in the world!
The grips are what make the Desert Eagle Poker Edition a really special piece. These grips are made from real wood and are laser engraved with a highly detailed design on both sides. The left side depicts a melting heart amongst a card suit checker pattern and a kingly dual-sword-wielding skeleton with "The King Killer" engraved next to him. The right side has the same card suit checker pattern with a clubs symbol, and a roulette table amongst playing cards and chips, reading "I LOVE GAMBLING" in large text, and "NEVER TELL ME THE ODDS" in smaller text below. The grips are larger than the usual Desert Eagle grips as they are wider in the rear strap, but are comfortable to hold and keep all of the controls within reach.
From a performance standpoint, this is a Desert Eagle, and a full auto capable version at that, so it is not for the faint-hearted! The recoil is ferocious and surprisingly fast given the size of the slide, resulting in an immersive firing experience with clouds of CO2 billowing from the ejection port with each full auto burst. If you keep it in semi, the Deagle is remarkably accurate, benefitting from a slightly longer inner barrel than most GBB pistols and superb iron sights. The gas efficiency is what we might expect for a CO2 GBB, with a mag dump in full auto clearing a 12g CO2 bulb almost entirely as it cycles violently, but if kept in semi you should get around 2 BB fills per capsule at a minimum.
If you want a Desert Eagle and you want to stand out, with the Poker Edition you certainly will with only 300 of these pistols ever produced! Its impressive recoil, thunderous full auto fire mode and the delicately engraved and inspired design of the grips means the Poker Edition keeps the best of the original Desert Eagle and gives it a bespoke, custom look unlike any other. Fans of giant handguns and risk-takers unite, the Desert Eagle Poker Edition is crafted for you!

Joule Charts
Special Instructions
These table can be used as a reference to see if the BB weight you are using will be over acceptable Joulage limits at some Airsoft Sites in the UK. To check if the weight can be used chrono your weapon using the BB you intend to use, and then compare it to the chart.
FPS, Power and Joule Limits can vary from site to site, so please get in touch with where you're going to play with in advance to avoid disappointment.
Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, with a 350fps limit for Automatic Replicas, 400fps for Semi-Automatic Replicas, and 500fps for Bolt Action Replicas.
Tap the tabs below to open the relevant chart for your replica.
This table should be used for reference, and cannot be used to check one weight against another, as the weight of the BB affects the power.
In order to check if the BB can be used with your replica chronograph using the weight you wish to use and then compare it against the table.
Every time you change weights you will need to re-chrono and check against the table. This is not a conversion chart between weights.
Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, and is the equivalent of 350fps, using 0.20g BB resulting in an upper limit of 1.14j.
