ASG H-15 M4/AR-15 CQB AEG

The H-15 is known as the Hybrid by ASG as it marries the flawless build quality present in the ASG Scorpion EVO with the ever-popular M4/AR-15 shape. This is the CQB variant, with an ultra-short 7.5-inch outer barrel and 7-inch handguard, ready to cut corners in the tight confines of a CQB site. 

The stock installed on the H-15 is a real steel HERA Arms CCS stock, an ultra-modern stock design which is yet to be replicated in Airsoft form. The CCS stock is flawlessly built and makes use of unique low-profile adjustment buttons on either side of the stock, eliminating any chance of inadvertent mid-skirmish adjustments. With a comfortable and grippy rubber butt plate, QD sling sockets on each side and an organic, low drag shape, the CCS looks fantastic and works like a charm. 

Starting at the front, we can find a polymer flash hider installed to comply with international shipping regulations. The device looks great, it is a shame it is polymer but the upside is it conceals 14mm CCW male threading beneath, ready for your choice of suppressor, tracer or alternative flash hider. Being the CQB variant, this shorty is dying for a tracer unit to provide an instinct aiming and psychological warfare advantage up close. 

Following the flash hider, we come to the heavy profile alloy outer barrel, designed to match real steel heavy barrels designed to maximise accuracy and permit higher volumes of fire. Heavy barrels are a bit of a rarity when it comes to Airsoft, making this barrel one more thing that makes the H-15 Carbine stand out next to the average M4 platform. 

Surrounding the barrel we have our handguard which is a unique ASG design known as the "M-Rail". The M-Rail handguard sports M-LOK negative space attachment slots at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions, ready to be customised with M-LOK accessories or 20mm rail adapters for M-LOK. Additional M-LOK slots are present at the upper offset angles in the perfect spot to add a tactical flashlight and keep it tight into the handguard for less likelihood of a snag slowing you down. At the lower offset angles, we are treated to linear gripping texture, allowing you to keep a firm hold of the H-15 as you sweep between targets without needing rail covers.

The upper surface of the M-Rail is equipped with a 20mm Picatinny rail which runs back to the receiver and mates with it seamlessly, providing plenty of room for LPVO scopes and red dot and magnifier combos with space to spare at the front for a PEQ laser or RunCam. Between the upper rail and the M-LOK slots, the handguard boasts weight-reducing ports which make the front end faster to point and give the H-15 CQB a mean aesthetic. The dynamic angled front end of the M-Rail mimics the sloped handguard of the Scorpion EVO; a little indicator of this platform's family lineage. 

Moving rearwards, we reach the receiver which is a unique ASG design based on the M4/AR-15. The receiver is patterned after real steel "Billet" receivers found on high-end AR-15s and is flawlessly machined throughout, featuring a built-in enlarged trigger guard to improve strength and add to the aggressive looks. The angle of the trigger guard matches that of the magazine well perfectly, avoiding the telltale signs of an AEG that has been cobbled together from aftermarket parts. 

On the left side of the receiver, we can take note of the prominent "H" marking, denoting that this AEG is part of ASG's Hybrid Series. The engraving is perfect, with no flaws to be found and crisp, sharp details. The same can be said for the engraved texture on the opposite side which matches the shape of ASG's logo. The front of the magwell is also equipped with gripping groves, giving you an additional point of contact when shooting from unconventional positions. 

When it comes to the details, the H-15 receiver is a massive improvement over the standard M4, not just in looks either! The cam pin protrusion on the left side of the upper is reprofiled, as is the mock forward assist and brass deflector on the right, pairing perfectly with the other modern furniture for a high-end look. The upper has even been reprofiled around the bolt release on the left side, intended to protect it from snags, which is a feature derived from the latest A5 variant of the HK416 and a feature not seen on anything but the top tier of real steel ARs. 

The charging handle is found at the top rear of the receiver, as it should be for an M4/AR-15 platform. The handle itself is constructed from alloy but its retention latch is constructed from steel with a polymer over mould to improve handling in cold weather. Pulling the handle back will open the steel dust cover, retract the mock bolt and lock it open, revealing the rotary HOP-up adjuster inside the mock ejection port. 

The rotary HOP-up adjuster style is well established as the best option for the M4/AR-15 platform, and it is great to see ASG keeping pace with other manufacturers in this area. The dial is nice and firm, guaranteeing the unit will keep its setting under the vibrations of full auto fire and can be adjusted in very fine increments, with a tactile click with each adjustment. The HOP-up allows you to tune the H-15 CQB for different ammo weights and extend your range, looking for the flattest possible trajectory. Once your adjustment is complete, you can hit the "ping pong paddle" bolt catch on the left side of the receiver to send the mock bolt home with a satisfying metal-on-metal "clank". 

The fire selector switch is right where we expect it; on the left side of the receiver, directly under the thumb of a right-handed shooter for fast access. The selector itself is a standard M4/AR-15 selector, but the markings for each mode have been updated to match the H-15 aesthetic. The safe position is denoted with a crossed-out projectile, the semi position with a single projectile and the full auto position with multiple projectiles. The markings are not painted or lasered on, they are crisply and deeply engraved, ensuring they stay visible in the long term and do not wear down. The magazine release is on the right side, protected by a redesigned magazine release fence so you never drop a mag due to the H-15 rubbing on your gear. 

The pre-installed pistol grip is the much-lauded PTS Syndicate EPG-C, based on the PTS EPG but with a slimmer, more compact form. The EPG-C is constructed from Dupont Zytel polymer, known as one of the best for this application in the world. With comfortable dot texture on either side and a refined grip angle, the EPG-C is the ideal pistol grip for modern shooting doctrine and looks fantastic, fitting in nicely with the H-15 aesthetic.

Inside the enlarged trigger guard, we can see something is amiss! The usual mil-spec trigger found on M4s has been replaced by the superb Retro Arms CNC aluminium flat trigger, adding to the upgraded looks of the H-15 and letting you take pure advantage of the snappy trigger response provided by the H-15's pre-installed MOSFET. When pulled, this trigger feels positively luxurious with its immaculate machining and its subtle yet stylish aesthetic is a perfect fit for the H-15. 

At the rear of the receiver, we come to the M4/AR-15 buffer tube which provides 6 positions of adjustment for the pre-installed real steel HERA Arms CCS rifle stock. The buffer tube is constructed from alloy and has the same ultra-matt finish as the receiver. Sandwiched between the receiver and buffer tube we are treated to an ambidextrous steel CQD-style sling plate, allowing a single-point rifle sling to be mounted on either side of the H-15. The castle nut is also constructed from steel and finished in a contrasting gun metal grey, adding some visual interest and detail while keeping the buffer tube tightly fitted. 

The stock, as mentioned, is a real steel HERA Arms CCS stock, a cutting-edge stock design which is unlike anything else we have seen. The shape focuses on reducing snags and enhancing handling but also looks magnificent; the perfect finishing touch to the H-15 platform. Instead of an adjustment lever, the CCS uses a pair of adjustment buttons on each side, both of which need to be squeezed together to adjust the length of pull. This completely eliminates the chances of snagging, but unlike low profile adjustment levers, keeps the control easily accessible so you can adjust without even looking at the stock. 

The CCS includes two slots for conventional strap slings and a pair of QD sling sockets, one on either side. Either of these sling mounting options can be paired with a front sling point, either for 20mm Picatinny or M-LOK, to add a two-point sling. The butt plate is constructed from dense rubber and is smaller than the average, improving gripping qualities while maintaining superlative functionality with body armour vests and plate carriers. 

The battery compartment of the H-15 CQB is inside the buffer tube and to access it you will need to remove the CCS stock. This requires you to press and hold both the adjustment buttons and insert a small tool (we recommend an Allen key) into the hole in the adjustment pin which will protrude from the bottom of the stock, just below the adjustment buttons. Once you have your tool through the hole in the adjustment pin, you can slide the stock off to the rear, revealing a Deans/T-plug battery connector inside the buffer tube. We recommend an 11.1V 1300mAh LiPo battery in stick configuration for the H-15 for an easy fit and perfect performance. 

Inside the H-15, the pre-installed MOSFET/ETU system improves electrical efficiency, trigger response and rate of fire, and ensures you will never get a semi-auto lockup thanks to its cycle completion function. The rotary HOP-up gives the H-15 the range and accuracy it needs to compete, and as far as we know, the base gearbox shell is the venerable version 2 gearbox meaning aftermarket parts should be easy to find and ever available.
