Ares 1-6x24 Illuminated Scope w/20mm Picatinny Rail Mount

If you have built yourself a beast of a modern DMR rifle, or you are thinking about taking the plunge on one of the impressive new Ares AR-308 series you will need some glass to match! The 1-6x24 Illuminated Scope from Ares is a "short dot" style scope with a mid-ranged leaning, offering magnification ranging from 1x all the way out to 6x. These scopes are about as perfect as they come for Airsoft, providing all the magnification you will need for Airsoft ranges with the ability to dial down to 1x if things get a bit too close for comfort, but what makes the Ares short dot offering so special?

The Ares 1-6x24 scope is finished in a low-vis metallic bronze, matching well with the Ares AR-308 and other bronze finished rifles. The scope has a 30mm monotube, allowing for a wide field of vision and compatibility with any 30mm scope rings on the market, though a lovely dual ring mount is included in the set. The included kill-flash device mounts to the threading at the front of the objective lens, and helps prevent glare from giving your position away when sunlight catches the lens. Surrounding the objective lens the scope is marked with "HD 1-6x24" in discrete black lettering.

The adjustment dials of the scope can be found on the top, left and right sides of the optic, with the dial on the left side controlling the illumination function, and the dial on the top and right controlling elevation and windage respectively. The elevation and windage turrets are capped, and the caps can be unscrewed to reveal the adjustment dials themselves which can be turned without the need for a tool, and has a tactile and audible click with each increment of adjustment. The illumination adjustment dial is a locking dial, and needs to be pulled out and away from the scope body slightly before it can be turned to illuminate the reticle. This function offers 11 different brightness settings and illuminates the centre dot of the reticle in red for easy target acquisition in any ambient lighting condition.

Moving rearwards we reach the magnification adjustment dial, which rotates around the scope monotube and provides magnification between 1x and 6x power. The 1x setting, like the vast majority of scopes within this price range is not true 1x but is close enough that it can be effectively used with both eyes open in a close-quarters encounter. The range of magnification offered by this scope is perfect for Airsoft, with the 1-3x settings being perfect for an engagement at Airsoft ranges and the higher magnification coming into use for long-range spotting and friend or foe identification. Included in the box is a throw lever ring which can be mounted over the magnification adjustment dial to allow for quick adjustments on the fly, which is an awesome addition. Anyone who owns a short dot style scope will know that adjusting quickly isn't easy, but the throw lever ring provides an extended "tail" which you can grab and turn with one hand with ease, even when wearing thick gloves.

As we arrive at the rear of the "eye bell" we come to the focus adjustment dial, which can be turned to tune the scope to your eye and the range of your objective. This ring has serrations on its surface, similar to those on the magnification adjustment dial which assist in adjusting the scope in wet weather by providing extra grip.

The mount provided in this set is a replica of the real steel "G" mount and includes laser engraved trademarks on the base. This mount is constructed from alloy with a smooth black finish applied and attaches to any 20mm Picatinny rail via two steel thumb screws which can be tightened up by hand or with a flat head screwdriver. Don't crank these down too tight though, you run the risk of scratching your rail if you go ape when tightening this mount!  The mount has weight-reducing cuts throughout its design, cutting the weight down and outdoing the vast majority of dual ring mounts on the market today. Short dot scopes are amazingly effective, but they are a good deal heavier than red dot sights so any weight saved can only be a good thing.

The view through this scope is crisp and clear, and the eye relief is approximately 4 inches (though this will vary depending on your own eye), making this scope great for forward mounting, providing a clear view even if you use bulky full seal goggles or a full face mask as eye protection on the field. The reticle illumination is subtle so as to not affect the precise cross hair, but is bright enough to be visible in any environment and can do double duty as a reflex optic on the 1x mode.

Included in the surprisingly high-quality hard storage case you will find practically everything you need to get out there and get seeing stuff at long distance, the only thing not included is the gun! If you are looking for some posh glass for your DMR or Sniper Rifle, the Ares 1-6x24 Illuminated Scope would be a fantastic choice functionally, and it looks great too!
