What's up with the Colt MK18 MOD 1 PTW?
HOLD THE PHONE!!! We know what you're thinking... Why on Earth should anyone pay this amount of money for what is essentially a toy? Take a seat and let us explain what you get for your money with this absolutely mouth-watering name-taker, and why it's a seriously viable alternative to a Systema PTW. We think this could possibly be the most realistic Airsoft Gun of 2021!
Build Quality for Days
There is absolutely no doubt in our mind, this is the most solid Rifle that has ever come through our door. A quick look at the gnat's whisker of space between the Upper and Lower Receiver drives this point home; just picking up the Rifle is a guaranteed smile. Having handled a lot of live firearms abroad and locally, we can positively tell you that this thing is made better than a lot of real (and genuine) ARs.
This Airsoft Gun is classified as 'Personal Training Weapon', which means that it is identical (or extremely close) to the real weight and dimensions, for the purpose of training with a non-lethal tool. This is great for Law Enforcement and Military Personnel, but as far as you Airsofters are concerned, it means that this is a seriously well-made Replica that will remind you of the quality every time it enters your hands.
Fully Licensed Furniture
It's no secret that we Airsofters love trademarks, and you'll be pleased to know that this MK18 is fully Colt licensed with all appropriate trademarks on the Receiver, as well as a licensed Daniel Defence MK18 Rail. This adds another layer of realism, and is a welcome extra level of detail that sets this AEG apart from the crowd.
Split Gearbox Design
Just like the Systema PTWs, the COLT MK18 MOD1 PTW features a Split Gearbox Design, which is extremely handy for quick access, inspection and maintenance. In a matter of seconds you can have visual access to the Gears, and quickly remove the entire Cylinder Assembly, just like the Bolt Carrier of the real thing. A hidden advantage of this is that you can have multiple 'Cylinder Assemblies' ready to drop in the Gun, should you decide halfway through an Airsoft Skirmish that you want to switch over to Semi Auto, DMR rules (firing at a higher FPS with Semi Automatic).
Simply knock out the Rear Body Pin from the rear of the Receiver and give the Handguard an encouraging 'tap' to split the Upper and Receiver - just like the real thing!
Top Dead Centre HOP
This style of HOP Unit (commonly referred to as TDC) is a different design where pressure to the Bucking/Rubber is applied via a Grub Screw, from the 'top centre'. This gives you the stability of a Fixed HOP, but with the ability to adjust the control by tuning the Grub Screw. What this means to you, the player, is that you will achieve better consistency and accuracy, thanks to backspin being more equally applied to your BBs, with far less bias to the left or right.
Normally, this is a DIY project that tech-savvy Airsofters perform to their own equipment. As a welcome treat, the MK18 PTW comes out of the box with it all set up and ready go, you simply need to adjust the Grub Screw to suit your weight of BB.
Functional Bolt Stop
It wouldn't be a Personal Training Weapon if it didn't work just like the real thing, right? Correct! When the Magazine is empty, the Gun will stop firing, and needs the Bolt Release to be pressed when a new Magazine is installed. This is to mimick the Bolt Hold-Open on a real Rifle, and is incredibly immersive when you're out on the field playing.
This also helps to remind you not to dry-fire (shooting the Gun without BBs in the Magazine), which is bad practice for Airsoft Guns and is also bad form in terms of safety, as it encourages you to absent-mindedly pull the Trigger if you regularly dry fire.
Controlled by Three MOSFETs
MOSFETs have become a standard feature of most AEGs these days, and for good reason. In their most basic form, they protect the electrical components of the Rifle. Cyber Gun have installed three separate MOSFETs in the MK18 PTW, each one responsible for their sole task. One MOSFET is dedicated to the Fire Selector (for burst fire programming), one for Battery/Component protection and a final MOSFET to regulate the turning of the Gears, to ensure they're performing how they should.
11.1v LiPo Ready
Whether you're new to Airsoft or not, you will have heard 11.1v LiPo get thrown around a lot. They're very appealing as they offer an insane Rate of Fire, and improve your Trigger Response massively. Most of the time, these batteries are not covered under warranty. However, thanks to the amazing construction of this Gun, and the faith they have in their product, it is fully warrantied to run 11.1v LiPos. This means that you can enjoy all the benefits, without the risk.
If you're on the hunt for the absolute best thing that money can buy, or you're sick and tired of Airsoft Guns that feel like toys, or you just want every gadget and feature under the sun all in one place, then the Colt MK18 MOD1 PTW is all of the above. You'll either have to take our word for it, or get on in your hands for yourself, we guarantee you'll be impressed! This is undoubtedly the best Airsoft Gun of 2021 so far!
