Tokyo Marui Hi-Capa 5.1 GBB Pistol; Government Model

Tokyo Marui has been in the Airsoft game for a long time, and since Airsoft originated in Japan, the company has had ample time to refine and perfect its pistols and, of course, this offering bears the fruit of their labour - in style. The Government Model is a 5.1 Hi-Capa for the more elite Airsofter with a base colour of black and silver furnishings. This colour scheme looks the business but certainly isn't garish, with the silver simply highlighting some areas of the pistol for a clean finish. 

The pistol is constructed mostly from polymer, which can be a worrying sight for some Airsofters, but the Government Model will surely convince you otherwise. There are many reasons why a polymer slide outperforms its alloy counterpart. Firstly it is ultra-lightweight, meaning you can rapid fire like an absolute fiend, hitting as many marks as you can aim or eliminating several hostiles with immediate effect.

Another advantage of a polymer pistol, specifically the slide, is that it functions a lot more effectively in the cold because it is lighter and requires less gas to cycle. Alloy slide users will tell you otherwise but polymer pistols such as the Government Model are way more consistent shot to shot, which means you can be more confident in your accuracy due to less kickback, meaning your shots will always shoot straight and true.

Starting at the very tip of the barrel we can see that this Hi-Capa sports an unthreaded barrel, an unfortunate sight for those looking to mount suppressors or tracer units. However, there are plenty of aftermarket outer barrels compatible with this pistol if you wanted one with threading to mount some sort of muzzle device but the Government Model looks sophisticated enough just the way it is!

The slide is constructed from polymer rather than alloy, giving you way better consistency when shooting, so if you take this pistol into a skirmish, you’ll be shooting dead straight with no issue every time, while your alloy slide-wielding foes will be shooting up-down, left-right but never on target. The slide sports a glossy look that is almost indistinguishable from alloy and features engravings with the calibre on it, adding realism and making the slide that bit more attractive.

Another feature of the slide is the cut groove indentations, which feature prominently on either side at the rear. This adds to the aesthetic and provides additional friction when racking the slide with or without gloves, allowing for ultra-quick shots and potential targets hit. Atop the slide, we find the front iron sight, which works in tandem with the adjustable rear sight. The front sight features a clear white dot for quick target acquisition. The rear sight is fully adjustable for both windage and elevation, adjusted at the top and the side.

As it comes the pistol doesn't have an under barrel rail pre-attached but it comes with a separate rail section that can be installed. This does require modification if you wish to install it and this will void the Warranty. To attach the rail you need to remove the slide from the pistol then you will find two indents in the frame, these are the points you need to drill in order to mount the rail section in the correct place.

For those sport shooters out there, this has the trigger for you! The trigger is a straight-back trigger, which means that it’s light and responsive with a crisp reset as well as being skeletonised to reduce the already lightweight to be even lighter. This is perfect for those of you doing competition shooting or for those who want to get an easy advantage on the skirmish field.

The trigger housing has ample room for even the thickest of fingers and features a diamond-stippled texture on the front, in keeping with the front of the slide. The front texturing is useful when holding the Government Model with a European grip, which is fantastic for competition shooting as the additional friction on your offhand can be used to control muzzle rise making rapid firing a lot easier.

Every good pistol needs a solid backbone in the form of a good grip, with this 5.1’s being fantastically sturdy, despite its lightweight. The grip feels incredibly satisfying to grasp thanks to its various textures, which, of course, serve the function of providing a good amount of friction, so your pistol always stays exactly where you want it and won’t slip or falter when aiming. The left and right-hand textures are a kind of mottled pattern, which contrasts well with the front and rear diamond stippled texture that complements the front of the trigger housing.

Familiar to Hi-Capa users is the safety, superior to many other pistol platforms. Being a Hi-Capa safety, the pistol can be locked easily thanks to the enlarged fins on either side, so whether you’re a righty or a lefty you can operate this sidearm with no issue. A beavertail safety complements this, which sits at the very back of the grip and unless you are squeezing this, the pistol cannot fire, therefore no more accidental discharges in the spawn point! Similar to the trigger, the hammer is skeletonised, slightly reducing the weight. It also features a low-profile design to avoid interfering with your sights as much as possible.

The HOP can be accessed by removing the slide. This can be done by pulling it back and aligning it until the chamber is fully open. From this point, simply push the pin attached to the slide lock until the slide lock can be removed. With the lock removed the slide can be removed by sliding it forward and voila! The HOP is revealed from within the slide. Being a gear-type HOP, it is easily adjusted with your nail or similar by simply turning the gear using the handy-dandy extrusion, letting you set the backspin of your shots, which is useful for range and elevation.

The internal barrel measures 6.08mm in diameter and while not quite deemed a tightbore barrel, most people can attest to its effectiveness thanks to Tokyo Marui's impressive quality control, making sure that every barrel is perfectly measured and perfectly polished on the inside so you can enjoy insanely speedy and accurate shots every time you pull the trigger.
