Description
Adding to the already spectacular EDGE 2.0 range, Specna are back again, this time with an ultra-modern AR/carbine in the form of the SA-E13-RH. If you are looking for an M4 carbine but all the ones you have seen are too pedestrian, as you can see the E13 is everything but. With a unique, but menacing style, including Specna's new cutting-edge receiver and grip textured stock and ambidextrous design. Because it also makes use of top-notch internals including Gate ASTER MOSFET and the incredible ORION V2 gearbox you can be sure this is the one you're after.
So let's get into why this carbine is so juicy. At the front of the rifle is the bird cage flash hider and as you'll see later, much like the rest of the carbine it's constructed from tough but lightweight alloy. The flash hider is attached to the barrel via a 14mm CCW male thread, so if you'd like something a little spicier you can always remove it and attach a flash hider of your choosing or even a whole manner of tactical muzzle devices such as suppressors and tracer units depending on your style or battlefield role.
We know you like your carbines to be edgy and flashy so when you look at the 14.5 inch handguard, you know this fits the bill. Featuring a skeletonised style with large weight-reducing cuts for an angular, jagged style. So with your weight reduced to this degree, you'll be able to easily glide around the field and pick targets off with speed! Now you might think that the size of these cuts would compromise the integrity of the rifle, but you'd be wrong, as although the alloy it is constructed from is lightweight, it is as solid as the internals of this carbine. So you've got the best of both worlds, all in a sleek, smooth and bold-looking handguard that's way more interesting than you're average carbine.
With the E13, the beautiful outer barrel is on full display thanks to the cut grooves of the handguard. Sporting a sleek rounded design in keeping with the modern aesthetic in contrast with the older, angular style. So last season right? And although the barrel is constructed from the same high density alloy as the rest of the full metal externals, it has a slightly brighter tone than the handguard, giving it that nice bit of contrast for all to see!
In addition to the side rails, the E13 sports a full-length 20mm RIS system with the top rail extending along the receiver with no gaps, giving the rifle a monolithic aesthetic, which is perfect for a carbine of this length and aids in aiming. The purpose of these rails of course is for attaching tactical devices. Devices such as torches, lasers and the included in package vertical grip. Adding a vertical grip gives you that extra control you may need for a rifle of this size. A vertical grip is especially useful for those closer-range games when you want a steadier aim during those times you need to quickly switch to your next target. The side rails can always be removed if you're the type who prefers a C grip and for those with longer arms.
Attached to the lengthy top rail are the flip up ironsights, because what carbine would be complete without sights that let you pick off enemies at distance with no effort, right? Being aperture type design, this means that the sights are especially accurate as the aperture has a slim circumference that lines up with the front ironsight in an especially precise way. But what other kind of features can these sights add to such a modern carbine. The answer to that is that up instantaneously with the push of an oversized button, springing into action with lightning quick response. Another advantage of the sights being of flip up type is that the rifle can be open aimed down the rail itself when the rifle is against your person and you need some quick accuracy.
Next, we arrive at the crème de la crème of receivers that those mad lads at Specna have started from the ground up and concocted to stay ahead of the game. Which mimics what is known in real world terms as a "billet receiver" but with some twists provided by Specna such as the magwell having an extrusion, allowing for a smoother transition to a magwell, or simply allowing for a sturdier hold for those of you that prefer that style of shooting, often during closer ranged gameplay.
Got a speedy trigger finger? How about a speedy trigger to go with it? You can see it's a flat design pretty standard, right? No! This is the Gate Solar trigger, based on their successful Quantum trigger. Designed to interact with the optical sensors inside the Gate ASTER MOSFET/ETU, the Solar allows the trigger travel and the sensitivity to be adjusted to suit your playstyle using Gate's Control Station app, the Gate Blu-Link or USB-Link. The flat trigger design is perfect for semi-auto shots in CQB and has a textured front surface for optimal grip and a shoer finger ledge to keep your trigger finger where it needs to be in the heat of battle.
Taking note from the immensely popular AR-9 AEGs, the E13 sports a reprofiled version with a wider contact surface than your average selector. Featuring an angled linear contact surface with additional texturing to allow for easier quick change of fire rate in the heat of battle. And lefties fear not as the selector is ambidextrous, so everyone can enjoy this monumental carbine, either side with a 90-degree throw between each mode, making it fast to use with little chance of knocking the selector out of place inadvertently, especially while wearing gloves.
The SA-E13-RH wouldn't be a Specna if it didn't include their iconic charging handle with an enlarged latch to make it that much easier when you feel like doing that satisfying charging action. Pulling the charging handle back will open the steel dust cover and retract the mock bolt, revealing the rotary HOP-up unit within. The rotary design is the latest for the M4/AR15 platform and is known to hold its setting for longer than some older gear adjuster styles as well as providing finer increments of adjustment for a more precise HOP-up setting. This HOP-up unit has the Specna Arms Helium Flat HOP-up rubber installed, giving you an out-of-the-box "flat HOP" for extended range with heavier BBs. Pairing this HOP-up unit and rubber with the 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel gives the SA-E13-RH fantastic accuracy and ability for minute adjustments, for those of you that like to tune your primary for the best possible results.
Similar to the fire select, the mag release is also an ambidextrous, both sides featuring the same angled texture, in keeping with that ultra modern aesthetic and of course aiding in finger or thumb contact. Unique to Specna's receiver, the right hand side release is a super oversized square design, so you will have no trouble reloading during the times that matters most. The front of the magwell features oversized cut grooves, so if you're the type to use a magwell grip, you won't find a better receiver to do so other than this.
For those of you that like extra comfort The SA-E13-RH's pistol grip features a textured design on the sides, slightly raised from the front and back to aid in the grippage of the carbine either barehanded or wearing gloves. Set at a more vertical angle than usual, the grip makes for use with modern shooting stances and pairs perfectly with the slimline PDW stock, aiding in those moments when you're peeking around corners and cover.
The sling plate is rather unique in the sense that it has 3 points, 2 on the left hand side and one on the right to allow for additional customisation when mounting your sling. With such a beasty carbine with a long barrel the extra level of adjustment is always welcome.
Another one of Specna's innovations is the unique Heavy Ops Stock. The Heavy Ops Stock has a huge amount of space to install your battery and connect to the rear wired Deans connector. A QD mount features in the rear of the stock to work in tandem with your plates when installing the tactical sling of your choice, making carrying options even more universal. . Polymer construction guarantees durability in all conditions, even in low temperatures. The stock fits on a military standard AR15/M4 buffer tube, so it can always be swapped if you ever change your primary for the day and let's be honest, why wouldn't you want to use this superior stock? Of course the main feature of the stock are the rubberised textured cheek rests, so your face can rest in comfort while you're blasting foes all day!
For this carbine, we recommend a 7.4V 2600mAh LiPo battery in nunchuck/ crane configuration to make the most of the amply sized battery compartment in the SA-E09-RH. If you already have a pile of batteries with mini-Tamiya connectors fear not, as the SA-E09-RH comes with a Deans to mini-Tamiya adapter included in the box.
Inside the SA-E09-RH we are treated to the usual Specna Arms goodies, starting with the ORION™ gearbox. The ORION™ boasts a reinforced polymer piston with steel teeth, an aluminium nozzle and cylinder head, a quick change spring guide equipped with ball bearings to reduce rotational stress, and a solid set of steel gears running on 8mm ball bearing bushings. Sounds good, but it gets even better!
The SA-E09-RH is pre-wired with the Gate ASTER MOSFET/ETU which provides superior electrical efficiency, protects your battery from reverse polarity and has a whole host of advanced smart functions which can be unlocked by using the Gate Control Station app, the Gate Blu-link, the Gate USB-link or the Gate Programming card (available separately). To give the gearbox the pull it needs to do the ASTER justice, Specna has installed a high torque motor with Neodymium magnets which helps with the split-second trigger response but is also capable of pulling far stronger springs than the M90 which comes pre-installed.
So in summary, if you're looking for a carbine that not only looks unique at the front end, boasts Specna exclusives such as the "billet" receiver and Heavy Ops Stock and features the best possible internals at this price range, you'd be hard pressed to find something that fits the bill than the SA-E13-RH.
