Delta Armory DA-C05-EGL CHARLIE™ Silent Ops 7 M4/AR-15 AEG

If you like your stealthy ARs, this one should excite you! The Delta Armory DA-C05-EGL CHARLIE™ Silent Ops 7 M4/AR-15 AEG, gives you most of the pre-upgraded internals present in the premium ALPHA™ range, but instead contains it inside a high density polymer shell with an alloy outer barrel, this results in a similar impressive downrange effect, but with considerable weight savings. 

You may have seen this style of AEG before, but we believe the Delta Armory example has surpassed previous examples. Inside, you will find a 6.03mm tightbore barrel and rotary HOP-up unit, a pre-upgraded gearbox featuring an SHS tappet plate and piston, 7mm bushings, and a quick change spring guide for easy power tuning.

The new EAGLE™ ETU/MOSFET is certainly a talking point, offering unprecedented programming options using only the fire controls of the AEG itself. Options include 3 or 5-round burst mode, binary trigger, sniper delay, AUG mode, semi-auto only and precocking. Thanks to its quick change spring system, the DA-C05-EGL can be an assault rifle one day and a sneaky DMR the next!

Starting at the front of this AEG we can find a pre-installed suppressor which covers the 280mm 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel, mounting to the 5.5-inch alloy outer barrel. This gives the Silent Ops 7 the look of an integrally suppressed AR with a compact front end, making it easy to take corners in your skirmishes. The suppressor mounts to 14mm CCW male threading but due to the inner barrel length, a barrel extension will be required to mount a tracer unit.

Surrounding the suppressor we have a polymer 20mm Picatinny quad-railed handguard with 20mm rails at the 3, 6, 9 and 12 o'clock positions, ready for any 20mm accessories you may add to help complete your mission. Styled after the real steel KAC RIS, the handguard of this AEG has a realistic look and unlike similar integrally suppressed platforms with KeyMod or M-LOK handguards, you will never have trouble mounting attachments to the quad rail of the DA-C05-EGL as it doesn't require clearance between the handguard and suppressor. 

The receiver follows the familiar M4/AR-15 format but is jazzed up with some unique Delta Armory flair. Constructed from high density polymer with angled surfaces and gripping texture on the front of the magazine well, this receiver has a very ergonomic design with a military aesthetic, mimicking real enhanced AR-15 receivers constructed from a single block of aluminium. The finish on the receiver is consistent and sturdy enough to resist scratches more effectively than most metal receivers, making the Silent Ops 7 ideal for those who like to skirmish recklessly!

The fire selector can be found on the left side of the receiver, positioned just above the pistol grip for quick access from a firing grip. The selector provides 3 modes of fire; Safe, semi-auto and full auto, with a 90-degree throw between each mode. The modes are all indicated with modern bullet pictograms, with a crossed-out projectile for safe, a single projectile for semi-auto and multiple projectiles for full auto. The magazine release is on the right side of the magazine well. It is easily reached from a firing grip with the trigger finger, allowing for super swift emergency reloads and the enviable handling the M4/AR-15 platform is known for.

The mock bolt catch is located in the centre of the left side of the receiver. While this dummy control doesn't provide a function on an AEG, it is nonetheless a separate part to maintain the realistic appearance and avoid the tell-tale signs of being a replica. The dummy forward assist is on the right side of the upper receiver, right where it should be. This control does nothing on an AEG, some real AR shooters would argue it does nothing on the real thing, but it is included on the Silent Ops 7 EAGLE™ to keep the rifle loyal to the real M4/AR-15 rifles.

The charging handle is located at the top rear of the receiver and doesn't need to be pulled before the first shot. It instead serves to retract the mock bolt carrier and open the dust cover on the right side of the upper receiver, giving us access to the rotary HOP-up unit inside. The HOP-up allows you to alter the flight path of your BBs and set the DA-C05 EAGLE™ up for different ammo weights, looking for the flattest trajectory possible. The use of the rotary adjustment style is a nice touch that futureproofs the Silent Ops 7 with the most modern HOP-up design for the M4/AR-15 platform. This rotary design improves the HOP-up unit's ability to hold its setting even with the vibrations of firing and is adjustable in finer increments making it a vast upgrade to the older "gear" adjuster design.

The pistol grip of the DA-C05-EGL boasts a refined grip angle for greater comfort when shooting with the stock fully collapsed and in more modern shooting stances. Based on the real steel "Gunfighter mod.3" grip, it is a modern ergonomic design with each flank of the pistol grip including some texturing for perfect wet weather handling. The trigger guard is built into the receiver, improving strength and allowing gloved fingers easier access to the trigger when compared to the standard AR flat trigger guard. The trigger is known by Delta Armory as a CNC Type A Flat trigger, it has a flat serrated front surface with a short finger ledge, ideal for rapid double taps.

At the rear of the receiver, we come to the steel CQD style sling plate, which offers ambidextrous functionality with single-point slings; perfect for left or right-handed shooters. The steel construction of the sling plate practically guarantees no matter what attachments you choose to mount to the plethora of 20mm rails on the DA-C05-EGL, the sling plate will be strong enough to support all the weight.

To the rear of the sling plate, we come to the M4/AR-15 buffer tube, which is constructed from the same strong high density polymer used for the receiver. The buffer tube offers 6 positions of stock adjustment for the pre-installed Delta Armory battery stock, allowing you to set the stock at the perfect length to suit your body type and loadout. 

The stock itself is a slimline design unique to the latest releases from Delta Armory. Featuring a QD sling socket on either side, a low-profile adjustment lever on the bottom together with conventional "footman loops", aka sling slots, the highlight of this stock is its rubber butt plate featuring lattice checkering and an angled section at the toe for providing grip in the most modern shooting stances, with or without body armour. If you have a preferred stock design other than this, it can be swapped for an alternative M4/AR-15 AEG stock, so you can choose the look that best suits you!

The buffer tube also serves as the battery compartment for the DA-C05-EGL. To access the battery compartment, you need to pull the stock adjustment lever out (located on the bottom of the stock) and hold it in place, after which you can slide the stock off the buffer tube to reveal a Deans/T-Plug battery connector inside. We recommend a 7.4V 1450mAh LiPo in stick configuration for the DA-C05-EGL, though you may need to keep the stock extended to fit this battery inside. Delta Armory recommends a LiPo battery measuring approximately 1.4 x 1.9 x 10 cm for full functionality of the sliding stock. 

On the inside, we are treated to some decent pre-upgraded parts, even in this CHARLIE™ line platform. The gearbox shell is reinforced to cope with stronger springs and the spring guide is a quick change example making power tuning a breeze. Inside the version 2 gearbox, we have an SHS piston with a full rack of steel teeth and an SHS tappet plate to guarantee reliable feeding. The gearset is constructed from steel with an 18:1 ratio, and the gears themselves run on 7mm bushings for a smoother, unlaboured gearbox report. 

The new EAGLE ETU/MOSFET system takes centre stage, offering more programmable options than ever before, including 3 or 5-round burst mode, binary trigger, sniper delay, AUG mode, semi-auto only and precocking. The ability to program this wide variety of modes using the trigger and selector of the gun itself gives the DA-C05-EGL the edge over practically any other platform in this price range. To provide the accuracy needed to deal with long-range foes, the DA-C05-EGL is equipped with a 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel offering higher FPS with the same spring and improved accuracy potential.
