Delta Armory DA-A03-EGL ALPHA™ SilentOps CQB M4/AR-15 AEG

If you need an advanced full-metal CQB platform, the DA-A03-EGL ALPHA™ SilentOps CQB M4/AR-15 AEG from Delta Armory is a fine choice. The "Silent Ops CQB" setup boasts an ultra-compact front end with an aluminium micro suppressor and pre-installed quad rail handguard, giving you space for accessories while prioritising agility and close-quarters domination.

Being an AEG of the Delta Armory ALPHA™ line, the DA-A03-EGL SilentOps CQB is considerably pre-upgraded straight out of the box, boasting a reinforced gearbox shell, SHS piston with a full steel tooth rack, a quick change ball bearing spring guide and a 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel paired with a rotary HOP-up unit for impressive long-range effectiveness. This variant also features the EAGLE programmable MOSFET/ETU system, providing programmable fire controls along with adjustable pre-cocking and trigger sensitivity. ALPHA™ line AEGs also boast full metal construction, making the DA-A03-EGL perfect for those who want an elite look and realistic heft in a honed CQB tool.

Starting at the front end we can find a pre-installed mini suppressor which covers the 210mm 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel, mounting to the 4-inch alloy outer barrel. This gives the DA-A03-EGL Silent Ops the look of an integrally suppressed AR with an extremely compact front end which makes it easy to take corners in CQB. The suppressor mounts to 14mm CCW male threading, due to the short inner barrel, a barrel extension will be required to mount a tracer unit.

Surrounding the suppressor we have a 4-inch aluminium 20mm Picatinny quad-railed handguard with 20mm rails at the 3, 6, 9 and 12 o'clock positions, ready for any 20mm accessories you choose to add to complete your mission. The upper rail runs back and meets the receiver rail seamlessly to allow for longer optical sights to be mounted, including red dot sight and magnifier combinations.

The receiver itself follows the familiar M4/AR-15 format but with a unique Delta Armory aesthetic and is constructed from flawlessly machined alloy for maximum realism. The fire selector is positioned just above the pistol grip and offers 3 modes of fire; SAFE, SEMI and AUTO, with a 90-degree throw between each mode. This makes the selector easy to adjust with your thumb, but not so easy that it can be changed accidentally. Being equipped with the EAGLE™ MOSFET also means you can program the controls for burst mode, binary trigger and even sniper delay, semi-auto only and AUG mode. Some of these may not be the best choice for this platform, but who are we to stop you?! 

On the right side, we have the magazine release button on the magazine, which is accessible to a right-handed user with the tip of the trigger finger or by a lefty with the off-hand thumb. The mock bolt catch is located in the centre of the left side of the receiver, and while this is a dummy control which doesn't provide a function it is nonetheless a separate part to maintain the realistic appearance and avoid the tell-tale signs of being a replica. The dummy forward assist is present on the right side of the upper receiver, right where it should be, reprofiled to match modern "billet" style receivers with their dynamic angles. This control does nothing on an AEG but is included regardless on this DA-A03-EGL to keep the rifle faithful to real M4/AR-15 rifles.

The charging handle is located at the top rear of the receiver and serves to retract the mock bolt carrier and open the dust cover on the right side of the upper receiver, giving access to the rotary HOP-up unit inside. The HOP-up allows you to tune the flight path of your BBs and set the DA-A03-EGL up for different ammo weights, looking for the flattest trajectory possible. The use of the rotary adjuster style is a nice touch and futureproofs the DA-A03-EGL with the most modern HOP-up design for the M4/AR-15 platform, boasting an improved ability to hold its setting under the vibrations of firing and being adjustable in finer increments than the older "gear" adjuster design.

The pistol grip of the DA-A03-EGL boasts a refined grip angle for greater comfort when shooting with the stock fully collapsed and in more modern shooting stances. Each flank of the pistol grip includes fine crackle texturing, with additional linear texture on the front and back straps for perfect wet weather handling. The trigger is a "flat" trigger with a short finger ledge and textured front, making it ideal for pumping out rapid semi-automatic shots. The trigger guard is built into the receiver, improving strength and allowing gloved fingers easier access to the trigger than the standard AR flat trigger guard.

To the rear of the sling plate, we come to the M4/AR-15 buffer tube, which is constructed from the same strong high-density polymer used for the receiver. The buffer tube offers 6 positions of stock adjustment for the pre-installed Delta Armory battery stock, allowing you to set the stock at the perfect length to suit your body type and loadout.

The stock itself is a slimline design unique to the latest releases from Delta Armory. Featuring a QD sling socket on either side, a low-profile adjustment lever on the bottom together with conventional "footman loops", aka sling slots, the highlight of this stock is its rubber butt plate featuring lattice checkering and an angled section at the toe for providing grip in the most modern shooting stances, with or without body armour. If you have a preferred stock design, the stock can be swapped for alternative M4/AR-15 AEG stocks if you want to change up the looks!

The buffer tube also serves as the battery compartment for the DA-A03-EGL. To access the battery compartment, you will need to pull the stock adjustment lever (located on the bottom of the stock) out and hold it in place, after which you can slide the stock off the buffer tube, revealing a Deans/T-Plug battery connector inside. We recommend a 7.4v 1300mAh LiPo Stick Battery for the DA-A03-EGL though you may need to keep the stock extended to fit this battery inside.

The internals of the ALPHA™ series boasts more than their fair share of pre-upgraded parts, including a reinforced gearbox shell with quick change spring functionality and a 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel paired with a rotary HOP-up unit, offering higher FPS with the same spring and finer HOP-up adjustment increments so you can get your HOP-up set perfectly for your chosen ammo weight.

Inside the version 2 gearbox, we are treated to 18:1 ratio steel gears running on 7mm ball bearing bushings, an SHS piston with a full rack of steel teeth and an SHS tappet plate for reliable feeding, even at high speed. The new EAGLE™ MOSFET system takes centre stage, offering more programmable options than ever before, including 3 or 5-round burst mode, binary trigger, sniper delay, AUG mode, semi-auto only and precocking. The ability to program this wide variety of modes using the trigger and selector of the gun itself gives the DA-A03-EGL the edge over practically any other platform in this price range.
