  • Fibre optic front sight & fixed outer barrel

If you're a fan of high-end real steel pistols favoured by competition shooters, the CZ Shadow 2 must be on your radar. This version of the ASG CZ Shadow 2 CO2 GBB Pistol is the Orange Special Edition, meaning we are treated to CNC aluminium grips and an enlarged magazine release finished in eye-catching metallic orange, along with several internal improvements and tighter tolerances across the design.

The real steel Shadow 2 sits side by side with the best 2011/Hi-capa platforms as the pistol of choice for those focussed on accuracy, particularly IPSC and other competition shooters. Famed for its fantastic trigger, superb ergonomics and excellent accuracy, the Shadow 2 is a lesser-seen platform in Airsoft terms, reserved for the elite who appreciate a classy full metal sidearm with a lofty real steel pedigree.

Innumerable improvements are present in this Special Edition variant of the ASG Shadow 2, including a fixed outer barrel with barrel spacers, a stainless steel recoil spring plug for reduced friction and tightened tolerances between the slide and frame for a smoother overall feel. The result is an incredibly accurate platform for a sidearm despite its ferocious recoil from its CO2 power source, ideally suited to competitive shooters and classy skirmishers with tastes for the finer things in life!

Description

If you're a talented marksman who wants to perform at your best, the ASG CZ Shadow 2 CO2 GBB Pistol; Orange Special Edition will give you the advantage you seek. This full metal CO2-powered GBB pistol builds on the original ASG CZ Shadow with a striking new colour scheme, tightened tolerances across the design, a stainless steel recoil plug for reduced friction and a fixed outer barrel with inner barrel spacers for peak precision.

The most obvious change in this limited edition Shadow 2 is the CNC aluminium grips and mag release extension, finished in sporty metallic orange, providing the classy yet racy aesthetics of a pistol designed in the real world to dominate USPSA Production Division competitions.

Inside, ASG has tightened the tolerances in almost every area, eliminating any wobble in the slide-to-frame interface, adding steel parts to strengthen key high-wear components and choice chrome finished parts for a touch of visual interest and to match the real CZ Shadow 2 Orange. If you love a pistol that stands out and shoots like a laser beam, the ASG CZ Shadow 2 Orange should suit you perfectly!

Starting at the front, we can see the chrome-finished outer barrel and barrel bushing at the front of the slide, adding a stylish yet discrete hint at this Shadow 2's limited edition status. The outer barrel is unthreaded but includes detailed mock rifling at the tip so the enemy team gets a realistic "dangerous end" view.

Below the barrel bushing, we can see the front of the stainless steel recoil spring plug, another addition to the Shadow 2 formula present only in the Limited Edition version. Using stainless steel here instead of the usual alloy provides reduced friction for a smoother feel and snappier slide cyclic rate.

The slide itself boasts deep angled serrations at both the front and rear, allowing the Shadow 2 to be easily racked in any weather conditions, with or without gloves. The slide cycles on inverted slide rails, one of the features of the real Shadow 2 which makes it such a solid-feeling pistol with minimal wobble and high accuracy potential. In this Limited Edition version, the slide-to-frame tolerances have been tightened when compared to the original Shadow 2, resulting in a slight increase in gas efficiency and an overall high-quality feel; a fantastic representation of the real Shadow 2 Orange with its hand-fitted slide.

On the left side of the slide, between the serrations we can see our licenced CZ Firearms trademarks, reading "CZ SHADOW 2 9x19" followed by a CZ logo. These markings are discrete yet prominent, avoiding the white laser-engraved markings of other platforms, instead opting for deep, crisp engravings which are a flawless match for the real thing.

At the top of the slide, we can find our iron sights which are a perfect combination of a red fibre optic front sight with an adjustable anti-glare rear sight. This means you'll never mix up the sight dots when shooting under pressure and can benefit from faster target acquisition in low-light situations thanks to the brightly glowing front insert. The rear sight can be adjusted for elevation via the flathead screw on the top and for windage by loosening the two grub screws on the top and sliding the rear sight back and forth in its dovetail. Adjustable sights are an essential feature for a competition pistol like this, but the robust design of the Shadow 2 sights makes them equally suitable for the rigours of combat.

Between the sights, we can take note of the linear grooves running across the top. These are present in the real Shadow 2 Orange to reduce heat mirage after rapid strings of fire so you can see your sights clearly and continue to ring steel at a pace and also function to reduce reflectivity under bright light. While Airsoft guns produce no heat mirage, it is always nice to see ASG go above and beyond to provide the flawlessly realistic look a proper replica deserves.

Moving down, we come to the frame which includes a 20mm Picatinny rail at the front, ready for a laser aiming module or tactical flashlight. While dressing it up for combat takes away from its competition shooting origins, the Shadow 2 is designed for the Production Division of USPSA competitions, the rules of which insist on a standard pistol without a flared magazine well and within certain weight and action type requirements. There is no reason you shouldn't run a Shadow 2 as a combat pistol, other than the fact that it is maybe a bit too nice!

The trigger guard is nice and large, complete with texture on the front surface so it can be used as an extra point of contact for improved recoil control using the "European grip" technique. There is plenty of room for gloved fingers in this guard, and the lower surface is ergonomically shaped to allow for a nice, high grip, functioning similarly to "undercut" trigger guards present on modified Glock and Hi-capa pistols. With its sleek, metal frame providing plenty of strength, unlike a Hi-capa or Glock, there is no need to dremel the bottom of a chunky trigger guard to get a high grip for intuitive target-to-target transitions and easy recoil control with the Shadow 2!

Like the real CZ Shadow 2, the ASG Shadow 2 Orange boasts a double-action/single-action trigger. This allows you to carry with the hammer back and the safety on and use single action for a short and sharp trigger pull or with one in the chamber and the hammer lowered for a longer but safer double action pull. Which pull you choose is entirely up to you, but we recommend using single-action if you are confident with your trigger discipline from the draw, or double-action if you are afraid of accidentally shooting yourself in the leg!

To set the pistol for a single action pull, simply load your mag and rack the slide (we also advise putting the manual safety on). For double-action, load your mag, rack the slide, remove the mag again then hold the hammer back. With your mag removed and the hammer held, hold the trigger back and gently lower the hammer. Reinsert your mag and you're ready to rock with double action. After your first shot in double action, the Shadow 2 will revert to single action so you get a nice safe first trigger pull and a lighter, crisper pull for follow-up shots.

The manual safety is ambidextrous, located on either side of the frame at the rear, well within reach of the shooter's thumb. Like a 1911 or Hi-capa, the safety can only be activated when the hammer is cocked and is super easy to deactivate as you raise the pistol onto target. The area of the frame at the front and rear of the grip is comfortably bevelled and extremely comfortable to hold; one of the attributes of the original Shadow 2 that made it so popular.

The slide release catch is located on the left side; a prominent design with an extended and serrated surface for fast and easy reloads from an open slide. To disassemble the Shadow 2 and access its adjustable HOP-up unit, first remove the magazine, and next rack the slide. With this done, hold the slide back at its rearmost point of travel and push the slide lock through from the right. After this, you can remove the slide towards the front of the frame and find the HOP-up adjuster on the bottom of the outer barrel. The adjustable HOP-up allows you to tune the Shadow 2 for your chosen ammo weight, looking for the flattest possible trajectory.

The grip of the Shadow 2 boasts absolutely beautiful CNC machined aluminium grips finished in metallic orange; a perfect match for the real CZ Shadow 2 Orange. The grips include machined CZ logos on either side, together with "ORANGE" at the top corners. These grips feel fantastic, similar to high-end Airsoft Masterpiece grips for Hi-capas, offering plenty of traction and a comfortable feel with or without gloves. The frame itself boasts additional pyramidal texture on the front and back straps, combining well with the grip texture to keep the pistol on target despite its jarring CO2-fueled recoil.

On the left side of the grip, we can find the magazine release which includes a CNC aluminium extension also finished in eye-catching metallic orange. This makes reloads much quicker and easier and is easily within reach but positioned well to avoid accidental presses. The supplied CO2 magazine also boasts a metallic orange CNC aluminium baseplate, tying the pistol together as a completed piece. If you need spare mags with orange baseplates, check these out!

When it comes to performance, the most stand-out feature of the Shadow 2 Orange is its accuracy, thanks in part to its fixed outer barrel combined with inner barrel spacers and enhanced further by its tightened tolerances. The recoil provided by its CO2 power source is also very impressive but not too hard to control thanks to the Shadow 2's hefty weight. The trigger pull is smooth and drama-free, and in single action mode, akin to a 1911 or Hi-capa with their short, crisp and positively rapid triggers.

Cycling the slide feels like it is riding on butter, thanks to the improved slide-to-frame tolerances and stainless steel recoil spring plug. The inclusion of a steel hammer and slide lock means the slick feel and reliability of the Shadow 2 when you first unbox it will be maintained in the long term. Speaking of boxes, the Shadow 2 Orange comes in a hard pistol case with pre-cut foam, guaranteeing your pistol is transported professionally and securely, just as it deserves!

If you're a skirmisher with your ear to the ground when it comes to the finest real steel pistols around or you need a sidearm that is as accurate as you are, the ASG CZ Shadow 2 CO2 GBB Pistol; Orange Special Edition will put a smile on your face. With gorgeous build quality and major tolerance improvements, the Shadow 2 Orange sets a new standard, whether it is on the field or against the clock!
