If you are looking for a GBB pistol with a style all of its own, the VORSK VM9 will do the trick! This full metal GBB pistol is styled to impress, with a vented slide with angular cuts in classic VORSK style and a 20mm Picatinny rail on the rear of the slide, ready for a red dot sight. This pistol is based on the B9 shape, but VORSK has done its usual glow-up to give this classic pistol design a sprinkle of the 21st century tactical aesthetic, adding a lengthened frame rail, raised light-enhancing iron sights and a skeletonised hammer to spice things up a notch.

Inside, the usual VORSK formula of a 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel and gear adjustable HOP-up unit is present and set to impress, granting improved accuracy over standard bore barrels and surprising consistency for a pistol in this price range. Also present is the Raven/VORSK standard 12mm CW female threaded barrel, meaning tracer units or suppressors are a go with the VORSK pistol thread adapter. If your sidearm tastes are unconventional and you want something that takes a walk on the wild side, this is the one to go for!

Description

The VORSK VM9 is based on the venerable B9/B92 pistol design but has been styled up to match VORSK's range of racy GBB pistols, carrying over the VORSK aesthetic in the form of V-shaped slide cutouts and serrations with light-enhancing iron sights and rock solid full metal construction.

While it stems from the B9, the VM9 is a radical reinterpretation of the iconic pistol design resulting in a menacing looking sidearm which is no slouch in the performance department thanks to its 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel. If you are after an affordable sidearm which looks like nothing else on the market, this is your best bet!

Starting at the front we can see 12mm CW female threads at the tip of the outer barrel. These internal threads allow you to mount a tracer unit or suppressor using the VORSK 14mm CCW thread adapter and equip the VM9 with a sneaky look or let it light the enemy up with tracer BBs. The inner barrel is also threaded, allowing a VORSK threaded barrel extension to be added if you need an FPS boost.

At the top of the slide, we can find light-enhancing open iron sights with green inserts. This means you can acquire targets more easily in low-light environments and also makes them easy to pick up quickly for rapid snap shooting. Light-enhancing sights are usually something you would have to add with aftermarket parts; providing these straight out of the box means the VORSK VM9 is quicker than most of its rivals and has one less part to upgrade.

The rear sight inserts are set into a 20mm Picatinny rail machined as part of the slide itself, meaning a Micro red dot sight for 20mm Picatinny rails can be mounted directly, with no need for adapter plates or other extra parts. This is a nifty addition, as everyone wants a red dot on their pistol but with all the different mounting standards and footprints it can be hard to find a red dot that fits. Using a 20mm rail means you don't need to spend hours sourcing the right sight; any which mounts to 20mm Picatinny rails can be dropped right on!

Between the sights, we can see the bits of the original B9 that VORSK redesigned, most prominently the front section of the slide. The standard B9 design has this section open which can result in dirt and debris getting inside. The VM9 closes this section off and furnishes it with V-shaped cutouts to complete the speedy VORSK aesthetic and bring the weight of the slide back down for improved gas efficiency. These cutouts also match the angle of the serrations at the rear of the slide and can also serve as serrations themselves, improving gripping qualities and allowing the slide to be racked from the front or the back.

The ambidextrous safety/de-cocker is located on the rear of the slide and is accessible from either side with the thumb while maintaining a firing grip. This control provides two functions; when the pistol is cocked it can be used to safely lower the hammer (de-cocking) and when the pistol is not cocked it functions as a trigger disconnect safety. When the pistol is ready to fire, a red enamel dot will be visible on each side of the pistol, just below the safety. When the pistol is in "safe" mode, the red dot will be covered by the safety catch itself.

The de-cocking function is designed to work with the double action/single action trigger of the VM9, giving you a new option when it comes to how you carry the pistol. With your magazine inserted and your slide racked, you can engage the safety catch to drop the hammer safely and disconnect the trigger. When you draw the pistol ready to fire, you can disengage the safety and either pull the trigger in double action mode, cocking the hammer and releasing it all with the trigger press, or manually cock the hammer for a shorter and lighter trigger pull. If you live life on the edge, you can also carry the pistol decocked with the safety off and rely on the longer trigger pull of the trigger in double action mode as a safety device.

The hammer itself is skeletonised, another of VORSK's unique aesthetic additions which provide the customised pistol style straight out of the box. As mentioned, the hammer can be manually cocked to reduce the trigger pull length and is a great way to keep track of the loaded condition of your pistol visually. While "hammerless" designs are becoming more and more popular, some shooters prefer an external hammer so they can more easily check whether the pistol is loaded and ready to go, especially in low light.

Moving down to the frame, the first thing we notice is the lengthy 20mm Picatinny rail sitting at the front, ready for a tactical flashlight or laser aiming module to be added. This rail is considerably longer than that of a standard B9, offering approximately 6cm of rail space, meaning plenty of room for anything you would sanely consider mounting to a pistol. Following the frame rearwards, we come to the trigger guard which is enlarged to allow gloved users easy access to the trigger. The front of the trigger guard is also flattened and sports subtle finger ridges so it can be used as an additional point of contract for better recoil control.

The disassembly lever is located just below the chamber on the left side of the frame. To field strip the VM9 you will need to hold the button opposite the disassembly lever on the right side down and rotate the disassembly lever on the left down by 90 degrees, after which the slide can be removed towards the front. With the slide removed, you should see a protruding dial on the bottom of the outer barrel assembly. This is the HOP-up adjuster and allows the VM9 to be tuned for different ammo weights by varying the backspin applied to each BB. The adjustable HOP-up allows you to extend your range, looking for the flattest possible trajectory with your chosen ammo weight.

Just aft of the disassembly lever, we come to the slide lock/release lever which is extended with a serrated contact point, offering reliable slide control in all weather conditions. The slide release is very easy to reach from a firing grip, even for those with smaller hands thanks to the relief cut on the grip panels giving you plenty of space to grip the pistol firmly and keeping your digits well within each of the controls. The grip panels themselves match the VORSK aesthetic, with deep crackle texture to keep the pistol firmly in your hands as it cycles and a VORSK "V" logo in a roundel in the centre.

The magazine release is right where we would expect it, on the left side of the pistol grip where the trigger guard meets the frame. VORSK has opted for a low profile mag release which is a great move for skirmish use; the magazine release remains easily accessible without being so prominent that you risk accidentally dropping your mag when drawing from a holster. The release has a circular texture to enhance grip and ensure this essential control is easy to use in wet weather, or with muddy hands.

Over on the right side, we can see the trigger actuation bar which moves every time the trigger is pulled. This is a nice touch of realism as it is present on the real B9 platform and is one of its most recognisable features. As we would expect, the trigger bar is constructed from alloy for durability.

At the base of the grip, we are treated to an old-school but very useful feature; a lanyard loop. This loop is designed to allow the pistol to be tethered to your belt to prevent it from going walkies as you crawl through the woods and is often omitted on more modern base platforms despite its usefulness. The loop can be used with a pistol lanyard such as the OPSMEN Multi-Purpose Tactical Lanyard or with a homemade paracord lanyard and we highly recommend this for new skirmishers, especially if you skirmish at a woodland site. There is nothing worse than rummaging in the leaf litter for your missing pistol, take it from us!

On the inside, the VM9 is equipped with a 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel which gives it the edge over many competitors, boasting better accuracy potential when used with high quality ammo and slightly higher FPS with the same gas thanks to improved efficiency from the barrel's tighter bore. The tightbore pairs well with the adjustable HOP-up unit, allowing for far better performance than most would expect from a sidearm in this price range. The HOP-up parts and inner barrel are also Tokyo Marui compatible, meaning if you want to upgrade the VM9 further it is absolutely a possibility.

Those who want a GBB pistol with attitude, the VORSK aesthetic takes this pistol as far from the plain Jane B9 look as is possible, adding its own stylish flare to the tried and tested B9 GBB formula. Being ready for a 20mm Picatinny red dot sight straight out of the box gives it a massive edge over rivals made even sweeter by the threaded barrel allowing a tracer unit to be added with the appropriate adapter. If you like your full metal ferocious recoil with a side of style, the VM9 belongs in your holster!
