- 6.05mm Tightbore inner barrel
- MOSFET pre-installed - 23RPS ROF
- Full metal construction - Mostly polymer like the real thing
If you are in the market for a new SMG and you want something that stands out, the S&T UST9 has its own unique look and the performance to back it up! The UST9 is built exactly like the real thing; with a high-density polymer body, metal outer barrel and steel body pins to keep everything firmly together while allowing for quick disassembly. This results in a lightweight and strong platform which does not compromise on realism!
S&T has also added some thoughtful pre-upgraded parts to the UST9 formula; offering a 6.05mm tightbore inner barrel to improve accuracy with less risk of a jam than tighter bores, a pre-installed MOSFET to improve trigger response and rate of fire and a quick change spring system for easy power tuning without needing to open the gearbox shell. If you want an SMG that is realistically built and not an SMG-5 or SMG-7, the UST9 should do the trick!

Description
Those looking for a realistic SMG replica that is less commonly seen; the UST9 should be right up your street! This SMG is built just like the real thing, with a high-density polymer body, alloy outer barrel, 20mm rails and steel body pins, making it as realistic as it is lightweight.
With a side folding skeleton stock, more 20mm Picatinny rails than many will ever need and ambidextrous controls, the UST9 is easy to wield with its intuitive controls and flawless layout and is nice and short; perfect for close-quarters action or aggressive playstyles. The internals also sidesteps the average AEG, offering a 6.05mm tightbore inner barrel, a pre-installed MOSFET, 7mm slide bearings and a quick change spring system to keep the UST9 competitive with other pre-upgraded Airsoft SMGs. If AR-9s and SMG-5s don't float your boat, the UST9's more modern aesthetic should keep you satisfied!
Starting at the tip of the alloy outer barrel we can find a knurled thread protector concealing 14mm CCW male threading beneath, ready for either the included suppressor to be mounted or an alternative suppressor, tracer unit or flash hider, depending on your style. We advise being careful not to overtighten a threaded device or the thread protector as the male thread at the barrel's tip is attached via a female thread.
Following this, we come to the receiver which is constructed from high-density polymer and has a textured matt finish applied. The feel of the polymer on this AEG is fantastic, matching high-end AR36 and other full polymer replicas with its textured, fibre-reinforced feel. The perk of polymer construction is that your AEG will be far less prone to scratches and other damage which can make the gun look scruffy and in this case, polymer is realistic as the real SMG the UST9 is based on is almost entirely polymer!
As we move rearwards we come to the handguard, which is furnished with removable 20mm Picatinny accessory rails at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions. These rails allow you to mount vertical or angled foregrips, and lasers or tactical flashlights should your mission require it. If you prefer to run the UST9 slick and save a bit of weight, these rails can be removed, as can the front sling point/hand stop. The hand stop is a great addition to keep your hand well clear of the barrel, avoiding painful self-inflicted hand shots and giving the UST9 its recognisable silhouette.
Above the handguard, we can find the charging handle which is derived from the famous SMG-5, and sports similar ergonomics with a more modern look to suit the rest of the UST9's externals. Pulling the charging handle back and locking it up into the "safety notch" will provide access to the rotary HOP-up unit, which is accessible through the ejection port located on the right side of the SMG. The HOP-up unit is constructed from polymer and turning the rotary dial will allow you to adjust the amount of backspin applied to your BBs and tune the UST9 for your choice of ammo weight, looking for the flattest possible trajectory.
The receiver of the UST9 is designed to be both caveman-simple and to provide familiar AR-15 style ergonomics with fully ambidextrous controls. These requirements were conceived for the fact that the real firearm was designed to replace the SMG-5 and supplement the M4A1 in service with Law Enforcement and SWAT special units.
Along the top of the receiver, we can find a 20mm Picatinny rail which allows red dot sights, scopes and magnifiers to be mounted directly, with no need for additional scope mounts. This rail is approximately 12cm long, providing enough space for even a red dot and magnifier combo without being excessively long and increasing the SMG's weight. The top rail can also be removed if you prefer to challenge yourself using the iron sights!
At the front and rear of the receiver, we can find the integrated aperture iron sights, the rear of which boasts both an open style sight and aperture sight which you can select by flipping the sight aperture inside its mount. The front iron sight is concealed inside a protective ring to prevent bumps and scrapes from upsetting your sight picture. The rear sight is fully adjustable for windage and elevation using an Allen key and the selectable aperture means you can use the finer aperture for precise shots in good lighting, and switch to the open aperture for low light work, and full auto.
The fire selector is similar in design to the AR-36, with an ultra-short and fast 45-degree throw between the fire modes, each of which is indicated with a bullet-style pictogram. The fire selector is positioned just above the grip and is present on either side to allow both left and right-handed users to operate the UST9 intuitively. The magazine release is centrally positioned, just in front of the trigger guard, and is also accessible from both sides.
The lefty-friendly aspects of this SMG aren't only relevant for southpaws; they can also be an asset to a CQB-oriented player who likes to make the most of surrounding cover by carrying out a "shoulder to shoulder transition". This technique means you switch shoulders when rounding offhand corners and present a far smaller target to the enemy. This technique is the bread and butter of CQB domination, and the UST9 is ready to take pure advantage!
The only control which is not either ambidextrous or lefty-friendly is the dummy bolt catch, which does nothing on an Airsoft AEG but is nonetheless included for realism. The dummy bolt catch is a separate part, avoiding tell-tale signs of the UST9 being a replica, and is positioned in the centre left of the receiver, just like an M4.
Another M4-like feature of the UST9 is its pistol grip, which combines the comfortable angle and flared-out shape of the AR36 platform with the textured sides of the "A2" style M4 grip. This grip is very comfortable for practically any hand size and works well even when wearing thicker gloves thanks to its textured sides. The trigger guard is an enlarged type, similar to that of the SMG-5 and AR36, making it suitable for any level of finger protection, other than mittens! The trigger guard runs forward to meet the magazine well and will keep any protrusions away from the trigger, reducing snag points and preventing negligent discharges.
On the left side of the upper receiver, we come to our receiver sling point which is ideally positioned for use with a single-point bungee sling. This sling point can also be used in combination with the front sling point/hand stop if you prefer to use a two-point sling setup. The stock also includes two sling holes, furthering your slinging options and allowing a lot of flexibility without the need to purchase additional adapters or mounts. The sling points are of the classic HK style and are quite small, so we recommend either using a loop of paracord or a keyring if your sling hooks are too big to pass through.
The battery compartment of the S&T UST9 is located inside the receiver itself and is accessible with the stock folded to the side. With the stock folded you will see a battery compartment door; pulling this slightly downwards allows it to be opened, revealing the battery compartment and the mini-Tamiya battery connector within. The UST9 is designed for AK style stick batteries, but can also fit a more compact buffer tube style battery for an easier fit and a swifter battery change. For the UST9 we recommend a 7.4V 1300mAh LiPo stick battery in AK stick configuration as most standard buffer tube style stick batteries are a bit too wide to fit comfortably.
The UST9's folding stock is of a fixed length but is designed to provide a better cheek weld than the legacy SMG-5 sliding stock, and it does a great job of this. The stock has a comfortable curved cheek area with a rubberised surface, allowing you to get a good sight picture and not grate your face like you might using an SMG-5. The butt plate is also constructed from rubber to provide exceptional grip for either wet weather use or when wearing body armour. This style of stock has since found its way onto SMG-5 variants and grenade launchers and is also offered with slight changes as a "pistol brace" in the US, indicating a clear win for its design and ergonomics.
If you are a fan of a realistic SMG platform but you still want to hurl yourself around the CQB site like a bull in a china shop, the UST9's low weight, compact size and realistic build lends itself well to the role. With an included suppressor, a Tokyo Marui compatible version 3 gearbox with full upgrade compatibility and more than its fair share of pre-upgraded parts installed, the UST9 brings the heat, both on the outside and internally!

Joule Charts
Special Instructions
These table can be used as a reference to see if the BB weight you are using will be over acceptable Joulage limits at some Airsoft Sites in the UK. To check if the weight can be used chrono your weapon using the BB you intend to use, and then compare it to the chart.
FPS, Power and Joule Limits can vary from site to site, so please get in touch with where you're going to play with in advance to avoid disappointment.
Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, with a 350fps limit for Automatic Replicas, 400fps for Semi-Automatic Replicas, and 500fps for Bolt Action Replicas.
Tap the tabs below to open the relevant chart for your replica.
This table should be used for reference, and cannot be used to check one weight against another, as the weight of the BB affects the power.
In order to check if the BB can be used with your replica chronograph using the weight you wish to use and then compare it against the table.
Every time you change weights you will need to re-chrono and check against the table. This is not a conversion chart between weights.
Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, and is the equivalent of 350fps, using 0.20g BB resulting in an upper limit of 1.14j.
