- Full metal construction
- Single shot - 375 FPS +/- 10%
- 6.03mm Tightbore & TDC HOP-up unit
If you are fed up with being hassled by snipers beyond your effective range, a compact, high-power shotgun should surprise them! The ST870 Sawn Off from S&T is a near-perfect, 1:1 replica of the real steel M870, one of the most common and iconic pump action shotgun designs of all time. With full metal construction, hefty weight and real wood furniture, if you put this down next to the real thing you would struggle to tell them apart!
Being a single-shot shotgun hitting out at a painful 375 FPS on a 0.2g BB, this ain't going to be welcome on any CQB site. Instead, we envision this single-shot, high-accuracy shotgun as replicating real steel shotguns shooting slugs; solid, high-caliber projectiles intended for long-range engagements and hunting. The compact size of this, the "Sawn Off" version makes it ideal for slinging on the back and carrying as a secondary, giving you more punch at long range than a standard AEG and a useful counter sniping tool.
While it may lack sights, the ST870's fast pump action mechanism and high FPS mean it can be fired far more quickly than a sniper rifle and reach out to equivalent ranges. For the talented skirmisher looking for a new experience, the ST870 Sawn Off offers a fast-firing, compact and consistent platform to handle any long-range threat!

Description
Based on the Maruzen Type 870 internal design, the ST870 Sawn Off is a single-shot spring action shotgun with an average FPS of around 375 on a 0.2g BB. This puts it squarely into the same class as bolt action sniper rifles when it comes to skirmishing but with the faster pump-action loading mechanism and the added challenge of no sights, and no way to mount any! While you won't be taking this beast into CQB, this is the perfect platform for a long-range skirmisher who seeks a challenge to match their skillset with the added benefit of its super compact size.
Starting at the front we can see the 10-inch outer barrel and extended mock magazine tube, giving the ST870 its outlaw-friendly short-barrelled looks. The inner barrel inside is 250mm in overall length and is a 6.03mm tightbore, promising superb and not very shotgun-like accuracy and consistency rivalling sniper rifles. The outer barrel is devoid of iron sights or any other details, providing a smooth profile which flares out slightly near the receiver/chamber, just like the real M870.
On the left side of the barrel, we are treated to realistic trademarks in the form of "12GA. FOR 2 3/4 IN. SHELLS" in finely engraved text. This marking is in the same location as the real deal, positioned as such to permit barrel swaps, as is common with M870 shotguns. The TDC HOP-up adjuster is located on the top of the outer barrel, close to the receiver. This takes the form of a grub key adjuster which requires a small Allen key to adjust. The TDC HOP-up unit style is known for its effectiveness with heavy-weight BBs, providing direct pressure to the top of the HOP-up rubber for a stronger HOP-up effect and less side-to-side shot deviation.
Running on alloy cocking arms just below the outer barrel we have the pump grip which is constructed from real wood, adding an extra bit of authenticity. The grip is ribbed and cylindrical in shape, providing ample traction in any weather conditions and a more comfortable feel than modern, polymer grips. While the ST870 Sawn Off may lack iron sights, it can still duke it out in the woods thanks to its high FPS and the fast pump action which can easily put more rounds down in a shorter timeframe than the traditional sniper rifle's bolt action mech.
Moving rearwards, we come to the receiver which is constructed from alloy and finished in matt black. On the left side of the receiver, we are treated to more realistic trademarks, reading "Model 870 SUPER MAGNUM" in bold, stylised text matching that of the real manufacturer.
On the right side of the receiver, we can find the detailed mock bolt carrier which is correctly shaped, and includes a mock extractor, giving this single-shot M870 a far more realistic look than the tri-shot models. The bolt carrier is finished in silver, adding a bit of visual interest to the design. When it comes to sizing, the ST870 is almost bang on 1:1 dimensions, giving it a much slimmer and more realistic feel than the bulkier tri-shot models which make realism compromises to fit the larger tri-shot mech inside. The magazine well is located on the bottom and accepts S&T 22rnd low-cap magazines, though being based on the Maruzen, it should also accept Maruzen and G&P Type 870 magazines.
The trigger and trigger guard assembly is positioned just to the rear of the magazine well and includes a cross bolt safety just behind the trigger. When engaged, the cross bolt safety will lock the trigger and protrude on the right side, putting it easily within reach of the trigger finger for quick actuation and intuitive handling. When the safety is off, the cross bolt button will protrude on the left side with a red ring surrounding it to indicate that the shotgun is hot.
On the left side of the trigger guard, we can find the dummy bolt release which usually functions as the shell door latch on tri-shot shotguns. On the real M870, this control allows you to unlock the bolt and eject a loaded cartridge should you need to switch ammo types or unload without firing. On the ST870, this control is a dummy but is nonetheless a separate part to avoid the telltale signs of this shotgun being a replica.
At the rear, we have the iconic "Sawn Off" grip configuration, mimicking a semi-pistol grip stock with the stock section removed. Fortunately, the stock isn't literally sawn off and is capped with a neat polymer cap with a steel sling swivel, keeping the aggressive looks but with a professional finish. The sawn-off grip is constructed from real wood with a deep and varied wood grain, just like the pump grip up front.
The ST870 is based on the Maruzen Type 870 internal design but is fitted with a 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel to provide the accuracy and range a slug shotgun simulator needs. The TDC HOP-up design is also a nice improvement over the G&P and Maruzen variants and has the potential to make this shotty a real tack driver down range. The lack of sights or the ability to mount them will hold back all but the most skilful skirmishers but those who do rise to the challenge will appreciate the ST870 for its realism, fast pump action mechanism and sniper rifle like range.
Whether you are working on your post-apocalypse or heist loadout, or you want something compact with some range as a secondary, the ST870 Sawn Off should scratch that itch. While it may be a challenge to use, the ST870 has awesome build quality, authentic real wood furniture and superb performance ready to be unlocked by those with the skills to use it!

Joule Charts
Special Instructions
These table can be used as a reference to see if the BB weight you are using will be over acceptable Joulage limits at some Airsoft Sites in the UK. To check if the weight can be used chrono your weapon using the BB you intend to use, and then compare it to the chart.
FPS, Power and Joule Limits can vary from site to site, so please get in touch with where you're going to play with in advance to avoid disappointment.
Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, with a 350fps limit for Automatic Replicas, 400fps for Semi-Automatic Replicas, and 500fps for Bolt Action Replicas.
Tap the tabs below to open the relevant chart for your replica.
This table should be used for reference, and cannot be used to check one weight against another, as the weight of the BB affects the power.
In order to check if the BB can be used with your replica chronograph using the weight you wish to use and then compare it against the table.
Every time you change weights you will need to re-chrono and check against the table. This is not a conversion chart between weights.
Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, and is the equivalent of 350fps, using 0.20g BB resulting in an upper limit of 1.14j.
