Description
The Novritsch SSR4 has been one of our most requested products, and checking this bad boy out in person leaves no questions as to why! With a full complement of pre-upgraded internals including a tightbore inner barrel, programmable MOSFET, high torque motor and a selection of CNC aluminium compression parts, the SSR4 is equipped to contend with practically anything else on the field today. To make matters even sweeter, the SSR4 has been set up for perfect angle of engagement straight from the factory, meaning you can let rip with an 11.1V LiPo battery without shredding your piston teeth!
This is the polymer version of the SSR4, boasting the same superb internals as the full metal version but in a weight-reduced setup with a high-density polymer handguard and receiver. This means you can run around all day without tiring out while enjoying the same effect on target as the heavier full metal version. If realism comes second to sheer performance in your priority list, this is the SSR4 for you!
Starting at the front, we can find an alloy "vortex" style flash hider with a stylish 4-prong design. The flash hider blends in perfectly with the discrete, tactical styling of the SSR4 and adds a literal twist to the aesthetic thanks to the twisted vortex flash hider style. Beneath the flash hider, we have 14mm CCW male threads at the tip of the alloy outer barrel, meaning if you want to get sneaky with the SSR4, a suppressor or tracer unit can be mounted straight out of the box.
The handguard is constructed from solid high density polymer with a textured matt finish, pointing to a strong polymer mix, potentially with fibre reinforcement. The handguard has M-LOK negative space attachment slots at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions, ready to mount M-LOK accessories or 20mm Picatinny rail adapters for M-LOK if you prefer to use 20mm Picatinny accessories. On each side of the handguard, we also have a QD sling socket allowing you to mount a QD sling swivel and a two-point sling. The 12 o'clock position hosts a 20mm Picatinny rail which runs straight back to the receiver rail and meets it seamlessly, allowing for all the mission essential kit the modern Airsoft needs to look like a beast on the field!
Moving rearwards we come to the receiver, a familiar sight to anyone who knows their way around an M4/AR-15 platform. The controls are all standard, save for the flat "speed" trigger, designed for rapid double taps and a hallmark of Novritsch Airsoft guns. The trigger also has a short finger ledge at the bottom to keep your finger where it needs to be no matter how fast you spam it!
The fire selector is located on the left side of the receiver and offers 3 positions, marked with "SAFE, SEMI, AUTO" in the form of discrete recessed markings. With a 90-degree throw between each mode, the selector is ideally designed to allow for fast mode changes without the risk of being accidentally bumped out of place during an intense firefight. The available fire modes are semi-automatic and fully automatic by default, but thanks to the internal MOSFET trigger system you can program the fire controls for 3-round burst mode and binary trigger, meaning the rifle will fire when the trigger is pulled back and fire again when the trigger is released.
The magazine release can be found over on the right side, well within reach of the trigger finger when the rifle is held in a firing grip, and is a push-through design just like other M4/AR-15 platforms. Mag compatibility-wise, the SSR4 will take any M4/AR-15 magazine but unfortunately, some drum mags don't lock into place properly. If you need extra capacity we recommend sticking to high-cap magazines. At the top rear of the receiver, we can find the charging handle which is an extended design to make it easier to use when wearing gloves. Pulling the charging handle back will retract the mock bolt carrier and open the dust cover on the right side, revealing the rotary HOP-up unit.
The HOP-up unit is a modern rotary design constructed from high-density polymer and is paired with a 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel resulting in excellent accuracy and above-average range. The HOP-up provides a backspin effect to your BBs and allows you to tune the SSR4 for different weights of ammo, looking for the flattest possible trajectory. The HOP-up bucking in the SSR4 is designed for 0.28g BBs according to Novritsch, meaning a stronger HOP-up effect than the usual and better resistance to wind.
Moving down we come to the pistol grip, which is styled after the real steel "gunfighter" pistol grips, boasting a reduced grip angle for a more comfortable wrist position when shooting in modern shooting stances with the stock almost fully collapsed. Present on each side of the grip we can find textured panels, with additional linear texture on the front strap and a filled-out backstrap for the best combination of comfort and gripping qualities. This grip isn't the usual "gunfighter" style though, the baseplate has been switched out for a heat sink style baseplate constructed from alloy, improving strength and allowing the powerful Neodymium magnet high torque motor to cool off more quickly between bursts of fire.
The stock mounts to a standard 6-position M4/AR-15 buffer tube, giving you access to the extensive M4/AR-15 stock aftermarket and allowing you to set the SSR4 up to your exact specifications. Mounted between the alloy buffer tube and the receiver we can find an alloy sling plate with QD sling sockets on either side, ready to mount QD sling swivels and your sling of choice. The positioning of this sling plate is at the perfect spot to mount a single-point sling but can be paired with the front QD sockets to mount a two-point sling setup for improved weight distribution.
Being adjustable to any one of 6 positions, the slimline crane style stock can be set up to suit any body type and also allow for those who wear bulky body armour or plate carriers in game. The adjustment lever is on the bottom of the stock and needs to be held down as you slide the stock into the desired position. The stock also features a pair of sling slots for old-school strap slings and an ambidextrous QD sling socket, as if we didn't already have enough!
The battery compartment of the SSR4 is inside the buffer tube and can be accessed by removing the stock. The stock can be removed just like any other M4/AR-15 platform; by pulling the adjustment lever out and sliding the stock off to the rear. With this done, you will see a Deans battery connector to which you mount your choice of battery. We recommend an 11.1V 1200mAh LiPo battery for the SSR4, though you can add a bit more battery space and use a bigger battery with the addition of a Crane Battery Stock.
On the inside, the SSR4 is something special, as we would expect from Novritsch. The heart of the SSR4 is its programmable MOSFET trigger system, known as the Novritsch "Pro Trigger" which allows for programmable fire modes, meaning you can set your rifle up to fire 3-round bursts instead of full auto and binary trigger instead of semi-auto.
The Pro Trigger also monitors battery health via its overheat protection and low battery warning functions and provides full cycle completion with each shot to prevent excess wear to the gearbox internals. Also amongst the Pro Trigger's tricks is adjustable pre-cocking, which positions the piston at the rear of its cycle after each shot to improve trigger response to borderline instantaneous.
Backing the Pro Trigger up in the SSR4's internals we have a high torque Neodymium magnet motor and a plethora of enhanced gearbox internals, including CNC steel gears, a CNC aluminium piston head and cylinder head, 8mm steel bushings, an aluminium nozzle and a steel quick change spring guide.
It is unlikely you will ever need to upgrade this setup but if you ever do, the gearbox is a version 2 which is fully compatible with aftermarket version 2 AEG gearbox parts. The icing on the cake is the rubber dampening pad installed on the cylinder head; this corrects what is known as the "angle of engagement", meaning you can get the most out of the SSR4's enormous in game potential by using an 11.1V LiPo battery.
If you are the type of player with the desire to dominate the game with a pre-built high performance platform with a speedy lightweight build, the SSR4 Polymer Version would be a fantastic choice. With nothing left to upgrade on the inside and all the accessory space you could possibly need on the outside, all there is left to do with the SSR4 is kit it out and get lacing people!

Joule Charts
Special Instructions
These table can be used as a reference to see if the BB weight you are using will be over acceptable Joulage limits at some Airsoft Sites in the UK. To check if the weight can be used chrono your weapon using the BB you intend to use, and then compare it to the chart.
FPS, Power and Joule Limits can vary from site to site, so please get in touch with where you're going to play with in advance to avoid disappointment.
Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, with a 350fps limit for Automatic Replicas, 400fps for Semi-Automatic Replicas, and 500fps for Bolt Action Replicas.
Tap the tabs below to open the relevant chart for your replica.
This table should be used for reference, and cannot be used to check one weight against another, as the weight of the BB affects the power.
In order to check if the BB can be used with your replica chronograph using the weight you wish to use and then compare it against the table.
Every time you change weights you will need to re-chrono and check against the table. This is not a conversion chart between weights.
Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, and is the equivalent of 350fps, using 0.20g BB resulting in an upper limit of 1.14j.
