Golden Eagle EMG Strike Industries M870 VOA Custom Gas Shotgun

If you're in the market for a unique beast of a pump action shotgun, the EMG Strike Industries M870 VOA Custom Gas Shotgun deserves your attention! Boasting full metal construction and licenced Strike Industries trademarks from EMG, the M870 VOA has a uniquely menacing aesthetic thanks to its stylish Strike Industries furniture. 

Up front, we have the "Strike" 12 gauge barrel clamp with a QD sling point on the left and a 20mm Picatinny rail on the right. The handguard is a flawless replica of the real steel Strike Industries VOA handguard, equipped with 10 M-LOK slots, finger grooves for maximum traction and stylish ports to keep weight to a minimum. The receiver features a 20mm Picatinny rail with a built-in side saddle which holds 6 shotshell magazines, well within reach for fast reload on the left side of the receiver. This spicy styling is made all the sweeter with the brutal-looking heatshield, equipped with oblong vent ports and built-in ghost ring iron sights. This thing looks like the legendary WW1 Winchester M1897 Trench Gun reinvented for the 21st century!

Starting at the front, we can take note of the intimidating shotgun-sized bore, giving the enemy a truly terrifying view as you level the sights. The barrel isn't threaded but the inner barrels are recessed inside the outer, effectively hiding the Airsoft nature of this fantastic replica. 

Following shortly behind, we come to the "Strike" 12 gauge shotgun barrel clamp, an aftermarket replacement for the original M870 clamp. The "Strike" adds a lot of functionality, with a QD sling socket on the left side and a short section of 20mm Picatinny rail on the right, ideally placed for a tactical flashlight or aiming laser. As we might expect, the barrel clamp is CNC machined from aluminium, offering precise engagement surfaces and a detailed recessed Strike Industries logo. 

Moving rearwards, we come to the VOA handguard, equipped with a row of 4 M-LOK slots running along the bottom and two additional slots on each side. Thankfully, there is plenty of clearance between the mock mag tube and handguard meaning these M-LOK slots are ready to rock with M-LOK accessories, including vertical or angled foregrips, tactical flashlights or 20mm rail adapters for those who prefer 20mm accessories. The VOA provides superb gripping qualities and feels fantastic, with or without gloves; a major enhancement compared to the original 870 handguard. 

Above the handguard, we are treated to a ported heat shield covering the outer barrel, equipped with ghost ring iron sights at the front and rear. The sights are fantastic for a shotgun; easy to pick up when raising the M870 and forward-mounted for a more unobstructed field of view. This heat shield gives us the vibe of the legendary WW1 trench gun, adding some visual interest to the usual pump action shotgun layout along with a formidable aura!

Moving back to the receiver, we can see the aggressive styling of the heat shield is maintained with the 20mm Picatinny rail mount, providing a 20mm Picatinny rail up top and a "side-saddle" shell holder on the left side. The top rail allows a red dot sight to be mounted for faster target acquisition and is recessed along its centreline to allow for a clear view through the ghost ring iron sights. The side saddle holds 6 shotgun shell magazines firmly thanks to its rubber retaining band, making for fast and easy reloads while saving you space on your belt or rig.

The trigger and trigger guard assembly is positioned just to the rear of the shell port/magazine well and includes a cross bolt safety just behind the trigger. When engaged, the cross bolt safety will lock the trigger and protrude on the right side, putting it easily within reach of the trigger finger for quick actuation and intuitive handling. When the safety is off, the cross bolt button will protrude on the left side with a red ring surrounding it to indicate that the shotgun is hot.

On the left side of the trigger guard, we can find the shell door release cunningly disguised as a dummy bolt release. On the real M870, this control allows you to unlock the bolt and eject a loaded cartridge should you need to switch ammo types or unload without firing. In the EMG M870 it opens the shell port door and with a hard push, ejects the shell inside. If you're planning on using a drum mag, the shell port door will need to be removed. 

At the rear, we have a fixed stock with a semi-pistol grip configuration, giving this M870 the classic full-sized shotgun look. The semi-pistol grip features diamond checkering to provide optimal grip and the stock setup itself is constructed from high-density polymer with a textured surface and no rattle or flex to be found. The butt plate is made from rubber, patterned after real steel recoil pads, providing superb wet-weather traction. 

In the centre of the butt plate, you'll find the gas fill valve for the integral gas tank. This is one of the changes made in this Golden Eagle Gen.2 870, reducing potential failure points by moving away from the original Tokyo Marui removable gas tank system. To fill the gas tank, simply point the shotgun down and index your gas can with the fill valve, just like a GBB pistol magazine. This new system should reduce the potential for leaks and is also a bit of a time saver, avoiding the need to remove the butt plate to access the fill valve. 

Being based on the TM 870, the EMG M870 VOA is capable of shooting either 3 or 6 BBs per shot, giving you a realistic shotgun-like spread which is fantastic for dealing with moving targets or getting the first shot off when breaching a room. To switch between 3 and 6 shot modes, simply pull the pump handle rearwards so the mock bolt is retracted and push the sliding switch inside the mock ejection port to the position of choice. With the switch at the front, the M870 VOA is set to 3-shot mode and with it at the rear, you're ready to unleash 6-shot brutality on the enemy team!
