Yet another officially licenced Noveske GBBR from EMG, aren't we lucky! This is the CGS Version of the Noveske 10.5" Gen.3 Shorty 300BLK GBBR, manufactured by CYMA's GBBR wing, known as CGS (CYMA Gas System). Based on the TM ZET System internally but with loads of steel internal parts thrown in, this is one of the best GBBR buys out there currently, and that is unlikely to change!

Being based on a TM design, this thing will shoot like a beast, and on the outside, things are even more spectacular. Boasting licenced Noveske Rifleworks trademarks across the design, full metal construction and flawless attention to detail make the CGS Noveske 10.5" Gen.3 Shorty 300BLK GBBR the ideal primary for any skirmisher who likes the challenge of running a GBBR in game and appreciates the high levels of authenticity and realism EMG provides. Whether this will add to your GBBR collection or you have decided it is time to move up to the most challenging yet rewarding platform in Airsoft, the EMG CGS Noveske 10.5" Gen.3 Shorty 300BLK GBBR will see you well equipped!

Description

The EMG CGS Noveske 10.5" Gen.3 Shorty 300BLK GBBR is based internally on the much-lauded Tokyo Marui MWS ZET System, which is excellent news. The ZET system is leaps and bounds ahead of other GBBR systems as it comes out of the box, and CYMA(CGS) has added even more improvements on behalf of EMG, including steel trigger group components.

A GBBR is the perfect platform for the AEG user who is getting bored of that sewing machine sound, lack of recoil and unrealistic capacity magazines. With a GBBR, you are treated to the highest levels of realism Airsoft can offer; with realistic-looking internals, perfect 1:1 dimensions, shoulder-thumping recoil you have to work to control and realistic capacity magazines which require the charging handle to be pulled or the bolt catch slapped to bring the rifle online after a reload.

Nothing beats the satisfaction of bagging a kill with a GBBR, though it doesn't come without challenges. With a gas power source and low-cap magazines, you will have to choose your shots and when it comes time to reload, showcase your handling skills. If you're the type of player who gets a kick out of working hard like the real warriors do, you'll love a GBBR!

Starting at the front, we can find a three-prong SF-style flash hider, giving the N4 a sleek and modern look. Give the flash hider a tap and listen to that ring...that's how we know it's made from steel! While the three-prong looks fantastic on the N4, the barrel features 14mm CCW male threading so you can add an alternative muzzle device of your choice, including tracer units and suppressors.

The barrel is finished in matt silver, matching the real N4 series of rifles and giving the CGS GBBR a bit of tasteful contrast while not being too garish or ruining your concealment efforts in a woodland environment. The barrel is visible through the handguard ports, along with a detailed dummy gas block and gas tube which is the correct length for the real steel N4 10.5" Shorty platform. Nothing ties a replica together like flawless details, and CGS has smashed it with this one!

The handguard itself is a replica of the real steel Noveske NSR 9, equipped with M-LOK negative space attachment slots at the 3, 6 and 9 o'clock positions with a 20mm Picatinny rail along the top. The M-LOK slots are punctuated by the recognisable NSR style elongated vents, reducing overall weight and adding to the gripping qualities of the handguard when run slick without rail covers. Being an EMG-licenced replica, the handguard sports Noveske trademarks at the base, reading "NSR-9" with "NOVESKE.COM" beneath. These markings are absolutely immaculately engraved and look phenomenal; especially impressive considering the thick, hard-wearing finish which would usually obscure details like this.

As we reach the receiver we can take note of the familiar and well-placed M4/AR-15 controls, though the receiver itself is a little different to the standard AR. The upper receiver is patterned after the Noveske Gen.3 upper receiver, matching the real thing perfectly with all the correct angles and shapes, a prominent "NOVESKE" engraving on the left side, a Noveske logo on the forward assist and a reprofiled mock forward assist and brass deflector bulge, intended to reduce snagging potential. The lower receiver is a standard M4/AR-15 receiver but with Noveske markings on the magazine well, body pins, and just aft of the mock bolt catch. Plenty of trademarks on this beast, perfect for realism fans!

The fire selector switch is right where we would expect it on the left side of the receiver, just above the pistol grip. Offering 3 modes of fire with a 90-degree throw between each, the selector is one of the highlights of the AR platform; secure enough to avoid inadvertent mode changes but fast enough to play "sights off, safety off". The available firemodes are SAFE, SEMI and AUTO, marked with engravings in classic M4/AR-15 style.

The magazine release catch can be found on the right side of the magazine well, lying well within reach of the trigger finger for super slick and easy fast reloads. The mag release is a push-button design and can be replaced with an aftermarket ambidextrous magazine release if required. On the left side of the receiver, we can find the mock bolt catch, taking the form of the classic M4/AR-15 "ping pong paddle". This catch allows you to release the bolt after a reload, speeding things up by removing the charging handle from the reload process. Both the mag release and bolt catch are constructed from steel which is very important for a GBBR as these high wear parts tend to be the first to fail. Using steel here saves you money on essential upgrades down the line. Nice one CYMA/CGS!

At the top rear of the receiver, we can find the ambidextrous charging handle, known by Noveske as the "Super Badass" charging handle. The handle has an ergonomic textured latch on either side, providing intuitive handling for both left and right-handed shooters. The charging handle needs to be pulled to load the first BB, but make sure the fire selector is set to the "SEMI" position before pulling the charging handle to avoid damaging the selector/trigger mech. With the charging handle pulled back, you will see even more Noveske markings on the handle stem itself!

The HOP-up unit of the EMG/CGS Noveske Shorty Gen III GBBR is located inside the upper receiver, following the Tokyo Marui ZET system format. Taking the form of a small screw inside the front of the upper receiver, the HOP-up adjustment dial is accessible through the magazine well using a small flathead screwdriver. This is slightly different than the TM ZET System, using a screw instead of the gear inside the TM. The screw system actually makes the HOP-up easier to adjust and avoids the need to remove the charging handle and bolt carrier to access the adjuster easily. The easiest way we found to set the HOP-up is by locking the bolt to the rear and adjusting through the magwell. The HOP-up allows you to tune the N4 Shorty for different ammo weights and extend your range, looking for the flattest possible trajectory.

The bolt carrier itself is finished in the same matt silver as the outer barrel, visible when the dust cover is open and adding a nice bit of visual interest to the design. The dust cover also has very clear .300 BLK markings on both the inside and out, a feature derived from the real thing and intended to avoid the potential of accidentally loading a 5.56mm cartridge into the rifle. The consequences of this would be disastrous, but lucky for us our guns are all chambered in 6mm!

The trigger guard is enlarged to allow for full-fingered glove use and boasts a Noveske logo on the bottom, bringing it into line with the rest of the design. The pistol grip is the legendary "A2" type, first seen on the M16A2 and common on military builds. The grip boasts textured panels on each side for improved traction and a finger ridge to help support and control the front end of the Shorty when held in the "high ready" position.

At the rear, we can find a steel sling plate with a QD socket in the centre, designed for QD sling swivels. QD sockets are fast becoming the norm for modern combat rifles, and this type is ideally used with a single-point sling, though you can add an aftermarket M-LOK QD sling point and QD sling swivels to make use of a two-point sling for better weight distribution. The sling plate also boasts Noveske markings, with the iconic Noveske logo flawlessly engraved.

The stock is the classic Crane stock, boasting a rubber butt plate and battery compartments in either side for Cr123A accessory batteries. The crane stock may be a bit long in the teeth by modern standards, but still does its job well and includes 2 sling slots for conventional slings and a textured adjustment lever on the bottom. As with all AR buffer tube equipped platforms, if you prefer a more modern stock solution, swapping the stock out for an alternative for AR buffer tubes is quick and easy.

On the inside, the CGS Shorty is based on the Tokyo Marui ZET System used in its MWS M4A1. This is already a flex, as the TM system is known to be far superior to other GBBR systems and has the widest aftermarket for upgrades. Speaking of upgrades, CYMA/CGS has sorted many of the known weak points in the TM design by using steel trigger parts, giving you a longer-lasting GBBR platform and saving you a wad of cash when it comes to upgrading down the line. Also present in the CGS build is a 6.04mm tightbore, giving an edge in accuracy potential and gas efficiency, letting this short rifle do some good work at long range.

Whether you are working on your DEVGRU impression or seek a more realistic Airsoft experience, the EMG  CGS Noveske 10.5" Gen.3 Shorty 300BLK GBBR is the ideal addition to your arsenal. Standing on the shoulders of the giants at TM with a generous application of steel parts from CYMA/CGS and authentic trademarks from EMG, this GBBR is a piece to contend with!

Special Instructions

This is a Gas Blowback Rifle. GBBRs require maintenance and careful handling and we do not recommend them for new skirmishers. Things to watch out for if this is your first GBBR:

  • The rifle cannot be put into "Safe" mode without first being cocked. Generally, the best way to store a GBBR is with the magazine removed, the rifle uncocked and the fire selector set to "semi". Do not force the selector into "Safe" when the rifle isn't cocked; this will damage the trigger group parts.
  • The HOP-up adjuster for this TM ZET system GBBR is inside the upper receiver and is accessible through the magazine well using a flathead screwdriver when the bolt is locked open.
  • GBBRs need to be cocked before the first shot, just like a GBB pistol. It is important that you do not double load a GBBR as this can break the nozzle. We recommend clearing the chamber of BBs with a cleaning rod in the event that you finish firing mid-magazine and the bolt does not lock back and show an empty chamber.
  • GBBRs generally use higher pressure gas than GBB pistols due to the extra weight of the bolt. We recommend Green Gas (NUPROL 2.0, VORSK V6, ASG Ultraair) for general use and Red Gas (NUPROL 3.0, VORSK V8) for cold weather use.
  • The faster you shoot a GBBR, the less accurate it will be. This is due to pressure variance as the gas reservoir cools down. Full auto is basically for fun, and these rifles run far better when used in semi-auto mode.
  • Like a GBB pistol, GBBR magazines require maintenance. We recommend leaving a small amount of gas inside the magazine when stored, and not storing the magazines in a cold or damp environment. Magazine seals and valves will need lubrication and to be kept clear of dust and debris.
