Description
Introducing the Delta Armory DA-C05-ETU Silent Ops 7, an integrally suppressed M4/AR-15 AEG platform boasting Delta's top-of-the-line internals in a lightweight yet strong high-density polymer body. Making use of the same externals as the original DA-C05 but with Delta's ETU series internals makes this the perfect platform for a fast-moving skirmisher who needs a lightweight primary with an ultra-snappy trigger to get the job done.
Inside the reinforced version 2 gearbox you will find many CNC machined aluminium parts, including the nozzle, piston head and cylinder head. The gears are CNC machined from steel with a 16:1 ratio, providing a rate of fire increase along with the strength to go the distance. The cylinder and spring guide are also CNC machined from steel for flawless air seal and strength, resulting in rock-solid internals with little left to upgrade.
To keep everything running properly and add some advanced functionality, an electronic trigger unit/MOSFET was added to the formula, providing pre-cocking and the ability to program the fire selector for burst mode and binary trigger, backed up by a high torque neodymium magnet motor to ensure you get the speedy trigger response needed to keep heads down in CQB. This style of AR has been around for a while from numerous manufacturers but the Delta DA-C05-ETU is the best we have seen yet!
Starting at the front end we can find a pre-installed suppressor which covers the 330mm 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel, mounting to the 5.5-inch alloy outer barrel. This gives the Silent Ops 7 the look of an integrally suppressed AR with a compact front end which makes it easy to take corners in CQB. The suppressor mounts to 14mm CCW male threading but due to the inner barrel length, a barrel extension will be required to mount a tracer unit.
Surrounding the suppressor we have a polymer 20mm Picatinny quad-railed handguard with 20mm rails at the 3, 6, 9 and 12 o'clock positions, ready for any 20mm accessories you choose to add to complete your mission. Styled after the real steel KAC RIS, the handguard has a realistic look and unlike similar integrally suppressed platforms with KeyMod or M-LOK handguards, you will never have trouble mounting mission essentials to the quad rail of the DA-C05 as it doesn't require clearance between the handguard and suppressor.
The receiver follows the familiar M4/AR-15 format but is styled up with some unique Delta Armory flair. Constructed from high density polymer with angled surfaces and gripping texture on the front of the magazine well, this receiver is rocking the "billet" aesthetic, mimicking real enhanced AR-15 receivers constructed from a single block of aluminium. The finish on the receiver is consistent and strong enough to resist scratches more effectively than most metal receivers, making the Silent Ops 7 ideal for those who skirmish like a bull in a china shop!
The fire selector can be found on the left side, positioned just above the pistol grip for fast access from a firing grip. The selector provides 3 modes of fire; Safe, semi-auto and full auto, with a 90-degree throw between each mode. The modes are all indicated with modern bullet pictograms, with a crossed-out projectile for safe, a single projectile for semi and multiple projectiles for full auto. The magazine release is on the right side of the magazine well and is easily reached from a firing grip with the trigger finger, allowing for super swift emergency reloads and the enviable handling the M4/AR-15 platform is known for.
The mock bolt catch is located in the centre of the left side of the receiver, and while this is a dummy control which doesn't provide a function it is nonetheless a separate part to maintain the realistic appearance and avoid the tell-tale signs of being a replica. The dummy forward assist is present on the right side of the upper receiver, right where it should be. This control does nothing on an AEG, and some real AR shooters argue it does nothing on the real thing, but it is included on the Silent Ops 7 to keep the rifle faithful to real M4/AR-15 rifles.
The charging handle is located at the top rear of the receiver and doesn't need to be pulled before the first shot. It instead serves to retract the mock bolt carrier and open the dust cover on the right side of the upper receiver, giving us access to the rotary HOP-up unit inside. The HOP-up allows you to tune the flight path of your BBs and set the DA-C05 up for different ammo weights, looking for the flattest trajectory possible. The use of the rotary adjuster style is a nice touch and futureproofs the Silent Ops 7 with the most modern HOP-up design for the M4/AR-15 platform, boasting an improved ability to hold its setting under the vibrations of firing and being adjustable in finer increments than the older "gear" adjuster design.
The pistol grip of the Silent Ops 7 boasts a refined grip angle for greater comfort when shooting with the stock fully collapsed and in more modern shooting stances. Based on the real steel "Gunfighter mod.3" grip, a modern ergonomic design, each flank of the pistol grip includes fine texturing for perfect wet weather handling. The trigger guard is built into the receiver, improving strength and allowing gloved fingers easier access to the trigger than the standard AR flat trigger guard. The trigger is known by Delta Armory as the CNC Type A Flat trigger, offering a flat serrated front surface with a short finger ledge, ideal for rapid double taps.
The stock itself is a crane-inspired design with a slimline form and a comfortable angled cheek rest, featuring a QD sling socket on either side, together with conventional "footman loops", aka sling slots. With a rubber butt plate featuring lattice checkering, this slimline crane stock stays solidly in your shoulder in any weather conditions but can be swapped for alternative M4/AR-15 AEG stocks if you want to change up the looks or have a preferred stock in mind for your build.
The buffer tube also serves as the battery compartment for the DA-C05-ETU. To access the battery compartment, you will need to pull the stock adjustment lever (located on the bottom of the stock) out and hold it in place, after which you can slide the stock off the buffer tube, revealing a Deans/T-Plug battery connector inside. We recommend a 7.4V 1300mAh LiPo in stick configuration for the DA-C05-ETU though you may need to keep the stock extended to fit this battery inside. Delta Armory recommends a LiPo battery measuring 1.4 x 1.9 x 10 cm approximately for full functionality of the sliding stock.
The internals of the CHARLIE series boast more than their fair share of pre-upgraded parts, and there are even more present in this, the ETU version.
Just like the ALPHA™ and BRAVO™ ETU models, inside the version 2 gearbox, we are treated to CNC 16:1 ratio steel gears running on 7mm bushings, an SHS piston with a full rack of steel teeth, an SHS tappet plate for reliable feeding, and a CNC aluminium piston head, cylinder head and nozzle for maximum long term durability. The cylinder is also CNC machined from steel, as is the spring guide.
These ultra-strong CNC parts are powered by a high torque motor with Neodymium magnets, kept in check by the ETU/MOSFET system. The result is an incredible trigger response and rate of fire, with more than enough range to compete with the big boys out in the woods. The party trick of the ETU/MOSFET is the ability to program the fire controls for burst mode, binary trigger and pre-cocking, giving this incredibly cost-effective setup some functions usually reserved for platforms twice this price!
If you like your primary pre-upgraded but don't want to lug around a metal body all day, the DA-C05-ETU should suit your needs perfectly. It is rare to find a build like this, focussing on pure performance while not compromising handling and agility with unnecessary weight. With a feature set like this, the ETU-equipped Silent Ops 7 is an asset to younger skirmishers with less physical strength or experienced skirmishers seeking a high-performance backup for late in the day when the arms start to burn!
