CYMA CM.135S EMG SAI BLU AEP; MOSFET Edition

Salient Arms are well known in the real steel world for producing some of the most well-regarded enhanced Glock pistols on the market, ranging from their Tier 1 upgraded slide to fully built pistols, of which the BLU is their flagship. The BLU is built from scratch using Salient Arms' upgrade parts and is not only one of the most effective but one of the most expensive sidearms out there. AEPs are no longer just for the poors!

The BLU is effectively a fully upgraded EU series pistol, boasting an enhanced slide with aggressive serrations, light-enhancing iron sights, a 14mm CCW male threaded outer barrel and an enhanced frame with all the ergonomic improvements the US civilian tactical community demands in an up-to-date sidearm. 

Starting at the tip of the outer barrel we can find the SAI-style thread protector which is constructed from alloy and protects the 14mm CCW male threaded barrel beneath. Having a threaded barrel on an AEP is a serious luxury, and finally, we can mount a tracer to an electric pistol without any ugly adapters! The threaded barrel also gives the BLU a more aggressive look, separating it from more boring-looking service pistols and marking it out as a custom piece with a combat leaning. 

The slide is constructed from alloy, granting the BLU "full metal" status, and has deep serrations across the design which make the real BLU slide easy to manipulate, though on an AEP they do nothing but make the pistol look super slick. Slide serrations are a big part of what gives the most popular enhanced pistols their menacing appearance, and though they don't serve a function on this AEP they are essential to match the real BLU. 

The front iron sight is a light-enhancing sight with a red insert which is easy to pick up in any ambient lighting conditions, pairing well with the rear anti-glare iron sight for a modern and effective sighting system. Combining a light-enhancing front sight with an anti-glare rear sight is one of the most modern iron sight setups seen on pistols and has the benefit of guaranteeing you cannot mix up the sight dots after a quick draw and miss the target at an essential moment. 

Each side of the slide is adorned with Salient Arms trademarks, which as mentioned, are officially licenced through EMG. The right side of the slide has the classic "S in a cube" Salient Arms logo engraved just to the rear of the mock ejection port, with "SALIENT" just in front in the Salient Arms signature font. On the top, we also have "S A I" in bold lettering so helicopters flying overhead know you are running a SAI pistol. 

The left side displays "SALIENT ARMS INTERNATIONAL" in the SAI font, signalling to onlookers that this is a seriously 'gucci' pistol. The mock chamber is part of the slide on AEPs but CYMA has gone to some effort to design it so it looks recessed and part of the barrel. The chamber also sports the SAI branding, with "SAI" in bold, prominent lettering on the right side of the chamber and "S in a cube" and "9mm" on the top. 

The fire mode selector is located on the rear left of the slide like the Glock 18 on which the BLU is based. The selector offers both semi and fully-automatic fire, with the uppermost position being semi and the lower position being full auto. The semi position is denoted with a single dot and the full auto position is indicated with two dots. 

The rear plate of the BLU slide can be pressed in to remove the slide to install the battery, and guess what? It also has a Salient Arms "S in a cube" logo on it. The selector needs to be in the semi-auto position to both remove the slide and reinstall it. Pressing the rear plate will allow the slide to be removed, and inside you will find both the HOP-up adjuster gear and the mini-Deans battery connector to which you connect your chosen battery. Space is limited inside, so we recommend sticking to batteries designed for AEP pistols specifically. 

The HOP-up adjuster is on the left side of the barrel and has the direction of turn to apply more HOP-up effect helpfully indicated on the dial. Underneath the barrel is where the battery compartment is located and the battery can be inserted from the right side of the pistol and the mini-Deans connector connected up. This pistol cannot take conventional LiPo batteries and we advise sticking with the included battery unless you are upgrading the pistol. 

The frame is a unique Salient arms design, based on the layout of the Glock 17 but with some notable enhancements which add a lot of functionality. The front rail is now a proper 20mm Picatinny rail, meaning you don't need a spacer to get a tight fit with any accessories you are using. On either side of the frame, we have a stippled section which serves as an index point for the trigger finger for either a left or right-handed shooter, keeping your finger safely out of the way of the trigger and controls but close enough to quickly take the shot. On the right side, we also have a hidden trigger lock safety taking the form of the right side disassembly catch. Pushing this down will lock the trigger, adding a level of safety on top of the two-stage Glock-style trigger for those who prefer an extra level of redundancy. 

The trigger guard has undercuts to allow you to take a higher hold on the BLU for more instinctive shooting, and it also has a flat front face so you can make use of the European grip, or other gripping techniques which make use of the trigger guard as an added point of contact for better accuracy down range. The grip itself has texture around the front and sides which mimics stippling, making the BLU easy and comfortable to handle whether you wear gloves or not. The rear strap has the classic SAI gold finish, mimicking the CNC brass piece of the real thing with a convincing gold effect. Likewise, the magazine release is also finished in gold with an "S in a cube" marked on its surface. 

At the base of the grip, we have a mock magazine flare and a mock magazine into which you insert your AEP magazine. The BLU is compatible with its own CM.135S magazines and should also accept magazines for the CM.030 and CM.127 AEPs. 

 So, if you were holding out on getting an AEP because they look far too basic for your stylish tastes you no longer have a good excuse! The EMG BLU is by far the best looking AEP on the market right now and with a 20mm frame rail, threaded outer barrel and light-enhancing sights you would be hard pressed to find a more customisable electric pistol. If you have a taste for the finer things in life, you'll love this one!
