If you're searching for your dream DMR base gun and that happens to be a SCAR, the Cybergun FN Herstal SCAR-H MK.20 TPR AEG is just what you need! This is the king of SCARs, known as the SCAR-H TPR (Tactical Precision Rifle) or MK.20 SSR (Sniper Support Rifle), designed as a designated marksman's rifle variant of the MK.17/SCAR-H.

The SCAR-H TPR differs from its smaller sibling in its longer receiver with lengthened accessory rails and multi-adjustable sniper-style stock with 8 cheek riser positions, 10 length of pull positions and a 20mm Picatinny monopod rail. The Cybergun replica carries over all of these iconic TPR features, along with a full metal build, licenced FN Hertal trademarks and the Ares EFCS programmable gearbox with low resistance wiring and a Deans/T-Plug battery connector.

If your DMR needs dictate a realistic base gun which stands out from all the AR platforms, the Cybergun FN Herstal SCAR-H MK.20 TPR AEG is one to watch. We like to think of this as the PSG-1 of the 21st century, marrying the slick SCAR looks with beastly DMR proportions!

Description

If a DMR is on the cards but you don't want yours to look like everyone else's, the Cybergun FN Herstal SCAR-H MK.20 TPR AEG is the perfect base gun. This full-metal SCAR platform AEG is patterned after the real steel SCAR-H TPR, also known as the MK.20 SSR (Sniper Support Rifle), the real steel SCAR DMR rifle with its enlarged receiver, multi-adjustable sniper stock and lengthy 20-inch outer barrel.

Inside, the SCAR-H TPR is kitted out with the Ares EFCS gearbox, equipped with low resistance wiring, a Deans/T-plug battery connector and the EFCS programmable electronic trigger unit. With the Ares EFCS programming box (available separately), you can set up the TPR for various burst mode combinations or semi-auto only, allowing you to crank the power up and use it as a proper DMR in-game. To sweeten the deal, the SCAR-H TPR is supplied in a custom-fitted hard storage case, giving you a professional looking carry solution to suit the professional aura of the SCAR platform!

Starting at the front, we can find the tri-prong flash hider mounted to 14mm CCW male threading at the tip of the monstrous 20-inch outer barrel. The flash hider is constructed from steel with a contrasting gunmetal finish which really makes it pop but thanks to the common barrel thread type, you can mount a 14mm CCW tracer, suppressor or alternative muzzle device of your choice.

The barrel profile enlarges as it reaches the receiver, matching the real SCAR-H TPR perfectly as a nod to realism. At the front of the receiver, we can find a sling point on each side, pairing well with the rear sling points to allow both left and right-handed shooters to make use of a two-point rifle sling. Given the significant weight of this beast, a sling would definitely be a wise choice!

The receiver itself follows the SCAR format, replicating the looks of the real SCAR with its unique construction method, known as "extrusion". An old technique but relatively new to the world of firearms, the extrusion process forces heated aluminium alloy through a die to produce a certain profile which can then be machined to shape. This results in lower manufacturing costs and higher strength than the equivalent cast parts. As far as Airsoft is concerned, this is the reason the SCAR has such a futuristic receiver shape.

On each side of the receiver, we can find 20mm Picatinny rails of the correct length for the SSR/TPR constructed from high-density polymer for weight savings, just like the real deal. These rails make a great spot to mount a laser aiming module or two-part bipod, though being a SCAR, you have plenty of other options! The bottom rail is machined into the lower handguard, constructed from aluminium alloy and running all the way back to the lower receiver, offering plenty of room for a vertical grip and bipod should the mission require it.

Mid-way along the receiver we can take note of the cutout, giving us a window to peek through the SCAR-H TPR and out the other side. This port isn't designed for winking at your mates! It derives from the real steel SCAR's adjustable gas system, providing access to the gas adjuster so the end user can adjust for use with a suppressor or in adverse conditions. The gas adjuster on the Cybergun TPR is non-functional, but present regardless to complete the realistic SCAR styling.

Running along the top, we have a full-length 20mm Picatinny rail built-in, offering plenty of room for an optical sight of practically any size. The real SSR/TPR was designed as such to allow for thermal and NVG devices to be placed either in front or behind a standard "day sight" while still leaving plenty of additional space for other mission essential kit. As it comes, the SCAR-H TPR doesn't include any form of sighting system; we recommend the biggest scope you can find for the most menacing look!

As with other SCAR variants, the SCAR-H TPR charging handle is located in the centre of the receiver and can be swapped from its standard position on the left side over to the right to allow for left-handed shooters. Being an AEG, the charging handle doesn't need to be pulled before the first shot; instead, it serves to lock the mock bolt carrier rearwards and reveal the rotary HOP-up adjuster.

The HOP-up allows you to tune the SCAR-H TPR for different ammo weights, looking for the flattest possible trajectory. Being a rotary-style unit is a massive plus for a platform focused on accuracy and range as it is widely known to hold its setting more effectively in the long term than the older "gear" adjuster design and also allows for finer adjustment increments so you can get the HOP-up set perfectly. When your adjustment is complete, you can hit the "ping pong paddle" style bolt catch on the left side of the receiver to send the mock bolt home with an oh-so-satisfying metal-on-metal "clank".

Just below the charging handle, you'll notice a bulge on either side. This is part of FN Herstals proprietary quick detach barrel mechanism, a much-sought-after feature included in the original SCAR design specified by US Special Forces. In an Airsoft replica, this is included to add realism, but in real steel terms, this allows the SCAR configuration to be changed quickly from a short-barreled rifle to a longer configuration and also permits calibre changes without the need for an armourer.

Moving down, we come to the lower receiver which is where you'll find most of the controls. The magazine release is positioned to mimic the M4/AR-15 platform but present on both sides to allow for left or right-handed use, a great feature for those already accustomed to an AR meaning no additional training is needed to master the SCAR-H TPR. Positioned on the magazine well and equipped with textured surfaces for extra traction and protection from accidental presses on all sides, this is the mag release design the AR-15 should have had!

The fire selector is positioned just above the pistol grip on each side, easily within reach of the thumb when the SCAR-H TPR is held in a firing grip. This selector should also feel familiar to AR users but has one notable advantage; its shorter 45-degree throw between fire modes. This means the selector is easier and faster to operate than the 90-degree selector of the M4/AR-15, with an enlarged paddle on each selector ensuring you don't slip off during an important fire mode change. The available modes are SAFE, SEMI and AUTO but these can be programmed for alternative modes using the Ares EFCS programming box (available separately).

The pistol grip is quite unique, despite not looking so in photos! This is the Ares "Slim" pistol grip, a proprietary grip design intended to closely mimic the grip dimensions of a real M4/AR-15 grip as opposed to the far-too-fat standard AEG grip style. This gives the SCAR-H TPR a far closer feel to the real thing, giving you the handling advantages of a GBBR despite its electric power source. A small drawback of this grip style is that it is not compatible with standard AEG motors, though we have heard on the grapevine that brushless motors for Ares slim grips are incoming; just what a DMR build needs for maximum trigger response!

On the rear left of the receiver is where you'll find the gorgeous FN Herstal trademarks, realistically laser engraved in white, just like the real thing. The markings read "FN HERSTAL BELGIUM" with "SCAR-H TPR CAL. 7.62x51" with your unique serial number following just behind. Below the text markings, we have an eye-catching FNH logo to complete the licenced look. Put this side by side with a real SCAR-H TPR and you'd be hard-pressed to tell the difference!

Onto the main event for some! The stock of the Cybergun SCAR-H TPR is a perfect match for the real thing; constructed from CNC-machined aluminium alloy with loads of functionality built in. The cheek riser can be set at one of eight positions, allowing you to get a clear view through your choice of optic regardless of your choice of face protection. The length of pull can also be adjusted, offering 10 adjustment positions ideal for getting the best shooting position when prone.

To adjust the cheek rest, simply press the top piece of the button on the left side of the stock and slide the cheek riser up into your desired position. To adjust length of pull, press the circular button just behind and slide the butt plate to where you need it. The length of pull button also has an Allen key slot in the centre so you can loosen it off to speed up adjustments. If you find this button is very hard to press, loosen it up and you should have no problems! On the bottom of the stock, we are also treated to a 20mm Picatinny rail designed for a monopod, allowing you to set the SCAR-H TPR up like the real warriors would for maximum in-game stability.

As you'll receive it, the stock of the SCAR-H TPR will require installation, though thankfully, this is relatively simple. To install the stock, simply align it with the stock mount at the rear of the receiver and slide it upwards. It will stop halfway to allow for battery installation, and to fully install it you will need to poke a small tool (we use an Allen key) through the hole in the bottom of the lower receiver, pull the internal latch out (towards the front of the gun) and slide the stock up and into position. This can be a bit tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it, it gets easier and easier.

The process is similar when it comes to installing your battery, though in reverse. Poke your tool through the hole, pull the latch out and the stock should slide downwards, revealing a Deans/T-Plug battery connector. We recommend a 7.4V 1200mAh LiPo battery in AK stick configuration for an easy fit but the compartment should also fit most slimmer stick batteries designed for M4/AR-15 buffer tubes. With your battery snug as a bug in a rug inside, poke your tool through the hole, find the catch and slide your stock back into place, being careful not to trap any wiring.

Inside, the SCAR-H TPR is equipped with the Ares EFCS gearbox, allowing the fire modes to be adjusted using the Ares EFCS Programming Box (available separately). This means you can set burst modes of varying durations and most importantly, lock the gearbox to semi-auto only, just what a DMR needs. Coupled with its quick change spring system, a DMR conversion is easily achievable, giving the TPR the performance to match the look!

If you're looking for a more exciting base platform for your DMR build or you simply love SCARs and must collect all shapes and sizes, the Cybergun FN Herstal SCAR-H MK.20 TPR AEG will be an asset to your arsenal. With superb build quality rivalling the best in the business, significant weight and heft befitting a DMR and flawless licenced FNH trades, this SCAR is as beautiful on the wall as it is in the field!

The battery compartment of the Cybergun SCAR-H TPR is inside the receiver and accessible with the stock removed. To remove the stock, insert a small tool (we use an Allen key) through the port on the bottom of the receiver. With this done, you should be able to index the tool inside the stock retention catch and pull it forward, after which the stock can be slid down to about halfway. This should allow you to get to the Deans connector and install your battery.
