The Blackout takes the highly successful ONYX internal formula and hones it for close combat use with a uniquely brooding aesthetic to match its terrifying performance. Starting with the Krytac Barrett REC7 DI SBR AEG in black and treating it to a hint of subtle contrast in the form of a Cobalt Cerakote finish on the barrel, buffer tube and bolt carrier, the Blackout’s covert styling is a departure from the racy Bolster looks of previous platforms but still signals its customised internals thanks to its unique Gate NOVA CNC trigger and EON HOP-up unit finished in Bolster Armouries Violet.
As is the standard set by Bolster Armouries, almost none of the Krytac internal parts remain; everything found to be lacking has been removed and replaced with the very best aftermarket upgrades from Laylax Prometheus, Warhead Industries, Maple Leaf, FPS Soltair, Gate Electronics and other big names in the high-end Airsoft aftermarket.

The ONYX Blackout is Bolster Armouries’ solution for those seeking the pinnacle of Airsoft performance in a custom platform forged for close quarters battle. The Blackout departs from the usual Bolster Armouries aesthetic, opting for a daunting low-vis colour scheme which stands out in the safe zone with its contrasting Cerakote tones while disappearing into the darkness of the game zone, ready to cut power to the enemies’ advance.
As with previous ONYX platform releases, the Blackout is built with the finest aftermarket parts in the business, with the Krytac Barrett REC7 DI SBR serving as the base platform. Only the external shell, gearbox shell and gears themselves remain; everything else has been stripped away and replaced with proven aftermarket parts assembled with the utmost care by some of the most talented techs in the industry.
All the biggest names, from Laylax Prometheus to Warhead Industries and FPS Softair feature inside and all parts are tuned to perfection, with the Gate TITAN V2 with its newest “Expert” firmware acting as the brain of the platform. Adding to its box of tricks, the TITAN now communicates directly with the ESC module on the Warhead Industries CNC Black Brushless Motor, meaning the Bolster bar is raised further still when it comes to electrical efficiency and rate of fire.
New additions to the Bolster Armouries formula are the EON HOP-up unit, NOVA CNC Trigger and Protector Piston Head from Gate Electronics, finished in Bolster Armouries custom violet anodisation. The “off the shelf” version of these parts previously featured in the ONYX [EON Edition] and performed phenomenally, leading the Bolster tech team to commission these gorgeous CNC aluminium parts with a custom finish, specifically made for Bolster Armouries builds and not available on their own.
Not content with simply tricking out the internals, Bolster Armouries has added choice real steel and Airsoft parts on the outside to give the Blackout its killer aesthetic and match the quality of its other externals. Up front, the team fitted an Acetech Bifrost Tracer Unit hidden inside the EMG Strike Industries Oppressor Univeral Blast Shield, giving the Blackout an instinct aiming and psychological warfare advantage in CQB while maintaining its realistic looks with a cutting-edge blast shield design with licenced Strike Industries trademarks.
Mounted to the M-LOK handguard, the Blackout is equipped with one of the most effective and aesthetically pleasing grips available in the real steel world in the form of the BCM Gunfighter KAG (Kinesthetic Angled Grip). The KAG works just like a hand stop but also provides a slight angle for a more comfortable wrist position and looks fantastic on the more menacing ONYX Blackout.
To finish off the Blackout, the MFT Battlelink Minimalist Stock was fitted, pairing well with the high-speed, low-drag styling of the platform. The Minimalist Stock offers several sling mounting options, a low profile adjustment lever kept well clear of snags and a serrated rubber butt plate which is perfectly shaped to lock into your shoulder, whether you use a plate carrier or a chest rig.
If the mass-produced guns from other manufacturers are the equivalent of a Ford, a Bolster Armouries AEG is a Rolls Royce; crafted with care, to perfection, with the highest quality parts available and a distinctive external look leaving onlookers in no doubt that this is a Bolster Armouries AEG.
Bolster Armouries ONYX Blackout Advanced M4 AEG
As with previous ONYX platform releases, the base platform for the ONYX Blackout is the Krytac Barrett REC7 AEG, widely regarded as having some of the highest quality core external parts available. The only external parts retained from the original REC7 are the outer barrel, receiver, buffer tube, and handguard; everything else has been stripped out to make way for the Bolster Armouries' internal and external style up.
The REC7 parts in the Blackout build are constructed from Aluminium and finished with a CNC machining process for a flawless finish with precise details. The handguard features a monolithic style 20mm Picatinny rail which meets the receiver rail seamlessly, providing an uninterrupted attachment surface suited for practically any optical sight setup, including combinations of Holographic sights with magnifiers or night vision monoculars.
The REC7 handguard uses the M-LOK negative space attachment interface to keep the weight of the ONYX down to only what is necessary while offering the option to add any M-LOK compatible accessories, including but not limited to the pre-installed BCM KAG. The 9.5-inch handguard has an octagonal profile and provides M-LOK at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions with a 20mm Picatinny rail along the top.
The smooth edges of the handguard make it a pleasure to hold, unlike many other metallic handguards which require rail covers for comfort. The REC7 handguard was chosen by the Bolster Armouries team for this reason. Having a handguard which requires no additional rail covers or grips to provide a comfortable hold means you can keep the Blackout in its bare-bones configuration if you prefer a simple setup, or deck it out to the nines if the mission requires it.
The REC7 receiver retains the beautiful, authentic, and fully licensed Barrett Firearms trademarks on the left side of the magazine well, reading; BARRETT | FIREARMS MFG INC | MURFREESBORO, TN | REC7 | CAL. MULTI. These markings are precisely engraved and add a touch of realism to the ONYX, with a nod to one of the most well known firearms manufacturers out there.
The ONYX Blackout is a perfect replica of the real Barrett REC7, down to every protrusion, surface angle and finish, as one would expect when using a Barrett-licensed AEG shell manufactured by Krytac. The receiver matches the form of a standard AR-15 receiver, with its mock ejection port positioned on the right side of the upper receiver, followed by a mock brass defector and mock forward assist. The right side of the upper receiver features a standard-shaped AR-15 cam pin protrusion, perfectly matching that of the real Barrett REC 7.
The lower receiver is where you will find the controls of the ONYX Blackout, with the fire selector being located just above the pistol grip in a very accessible location; one of the traits the AR-15 platform is known and loved for. The selector switch provides 3 positions; Safe, Semi-automatic, and fully automatic with a 90-degree throw between each mode and is mirrored on either side to allow left and right-handed shooters to operate this essential control intuitively. Each selector position is denoted with an engraved pictogram, following trends in modern firearms development and imitating real Barrett REC7 perfectly.
The magazine release can be found on the right side of the ONYX, on the magazine well, and is protected from accidental drops with a magazine release fence machined as part of the lower receiver. The mag release lies well within reach of the trigger finger of a right-handed user and can be used by left-handed shooters by pressing the release with the support hand thumb. This magazine release is a "drop-free" design, granting additional speed when time is of the essence; whether you are skirmishing or shooting against the clock!
Cerakote Finish - Cobalt H-112
Cerakote is an advanced, hard-wearing, and corrosion-resistant ceramic coating developed for industries ranging from automotive to firearms and aerospace applications. Cerakote is offered in a wide range of finishes and is generally considered to be superior to anodizing when it comes to providing a custom finish to firearms.
This is due in part to the high standards of colour consistency with a Cerakote finish, and that as a part of the process, anodizing creates a brittle and porous oxide layer over the parts, increasing tensile residual stress which can cause the finish to crack.
Cerakote does not affect the fatigue properties of aluminium and its alloys, making it ideal for Bolster Armouries RIFs. Cerakote has been extensively tested and has shown to be capable of exceeding military standards for corrosion resistance by over 40 times when subjected to a salt chamber test, even outlasting the commonly used Nitride finish for the barrels of real rifles.
The Cerakote "Cobalt" finish is a dark matt charcoal with a fine silver metallic, adding visual interest to the Blackout design and a stealthy yet distinctive overall look. This coating has been applied to the outer barrel, buffer tube and mock bolt carrier of the Blackout, providing a subtle contrast with the Black finish of the body and whispering in the ear of any knowing onlookers that this is a Bolster Armouries ONYX Blackout. Cobalt is also a near-perfect match for the metallic grey adjustment dial of the Gate EON HOP-up unit, tying the styling of the Blackout together for a complete look.
Cobalt is a part of the Cerakote H series of coatings, which boast excellent wear resistance, chemical and solvent resistance, and superb adhesion. The Cobalt finish is visible through the ports on the handguard and through the mock ejection port, leaving observers in no doubt that this is a Bolster Armouries custom piece.

Bravo Company Manufacturing (BCM) Kinesthetic Angled Grip - M-LOK
The Bravo Company Manufacturing (BCM) Kinesthetic Angled Grip is designed as a hybrid angled foregrip/handstop, focussing on reducing weight and only minimally increasing the width of its host handguard. The KAG mounts to the Blackout’s M-LOK handguard and can be removed or repositioned to suit any shooter.
The KAG can be used either as an angled grip, as a barricade stop or as a simple index point to encourage a consistent grip which results in more efficient and intuitive weapons handling. Its reduced profile when compared to other angled foregrips means it will never get in the way or snag on your gear and it takes up minimal rail space, leaving you plenty of room for other mission essentials.
The shape of the KAG includes a slight angle followed by a forward rake to reduce wrist and joint fatigue when shooting with modern techniques such as the C-clamp grip and is textured on the front and rear for improved traction. Designed with input from Travis Haley, founder of Haley Strategic Partners, the KAG has quite the pedigree and is manufactured in the USA from high density polymer with steel mounting hardware.
Mission First Tactical Battlelink Minimalist AR-15 Stock - Milspec
The MFT Battlelink is the lightest AR-15 stock in its class, boasting conventional sling slots, an ambidextrous QD sling socket, a low profile adjustment lever and a curved rubber butt plate designed to permit fast target presentation, even when wearing body armour or a plate carrier.
With a reduced profile at the front which widens at the rear to form a sloped cheekpiece, the MFT Battlelink enhances shooter comfort while keeping weight and bulk to a minimum, tipping the scales at a mere 165g. Its centrally mounted QD sling socket is not rotation limited, permitting ambidextrous operation and allowing skilled shooters to make use of shoulder-to-shoulder transitions without their sling getting in the way.
Additional sling mounting apparatus is also present in the form of a pair of conventional sling slots, also known as “Footman Loops”. The Footman Loops are designed to fit slings of up to 1.25” in width, offering the same positions found on the original CAR-15 stock and the B5 SOPMOD stock (aka the “Crane” stock) for those who prefer a more traditional sling setup. Also present are a port at the front and a port at the toe of the stock, designed to allow a woven paracord bulwark to be fitted which further protects the adjustment lever from accidental actuation without restricting access to the underside QD sling socket.
The angled, serrated and rubberised butt plate gives the MFT Battlelink flawless functionality when used with a plate carrier, locking the stock into your shoulder and providing maximum contact area and traction thanks to the use of a “rolled toe”. The rolled toe is the additional angled section at the toe of the stock and allows for enhanced control over the ONYX Blackout no matter what load-bearing or protective equipment you choose to wear.
Constructed from military-grade reinforced polyamide, the MFT Battlelink is made in the USA and has been seen on the primary weapons of various US Special Forces outfits along with our very own UKSF, giving its design the utmost credibility and a recognisable shape that Milsim skirmishers will instantly recognise.
PTS Syndicate Ergonomic Enhancements
The Bolster Armouries ONYX Blackout has been equipped with a host of PTS Syndicate ergonomic enhancements to ensure it handles as well as it shoots.
The pistol grip has been replaced with the advanced EPG Pistol grip, offering a highly supportive design with a curved extension to help you maintain a comfortable hold and protect the web of your hand whilst manipulating the ONYX Blackout. This Pistol grip is constructed from Dupont Zytel, a high strength, abrasion and impact-resistant thermoplastic polyamide/nylon, aka, the best of the best when it comes to high density polymer.
With comfortable dot texturing on either side and crackle texture on the front strap and backstrap, this grip is the perfect enhancement to ensure an ONYX-wielding player maintains a positive grip on the rifle in any weather condition, even while wearing thick gloves. The EPG follows a very similar profile to the popular Magpul MIAD and MOE grips for real AR-15s, both of which have an excellent reputation for providing a comfortable grip which suits a wide variety of hand shapes and sizes.
The ONYX platform has been equipped with a PTS Radian Raptor-LT charging handle, the latest iteration of the revolutionary Radian Weapons ambidextrous charging handle, now adapted for Airsoft use by PTS Syndicate. The Raptor charging handle allows easy access for both left and right-handed users due to its dual-wing design and functions identically from either side of the rifle.
The Raptor is comprised of a 6000 series aluminium skeleton with a black anodized finish which is over-moulded with PTS' own custom reinforced polymer formula; known for its combination of high strength, low weight, and impressive durability. The design of the Raptor charging handle allows it to be pulled with a single finger, thumb, or even the palm of your hand due to its serrated grip surfaces on the charging handle "wings" providing positive grip in any situation.
The right side "wing" of the Raptor is slightly longer than the left side in order to clear the mock forward assist button found on the ONYX, allowing smooth operation with no snags for a left-handed user, or a right-hander who uses shoulder-to-shoulder transitions to gain the edge in close quarters. Pulling the charging handle to the rear provides access to the Gate EON CNC aluminium rotary HOP-up unit which is accessible through the mock ejection port on the right side of the ONYX Blackout.
EMG Strike Industries Oppressor Universal Blast Shield w/Acetech Bifrost Tracer Unit
The real steel Strike Industries Oppressor Universal is designed to help mitigate blast and reduce noise when mounted over a muzzle brake, offering an enviable combination of reduced recoil, redirected muzzle gasses and lower muzzle report. The EMG replica is flawlessly detailed and licenced by Strike Industries, but being an Airsoft muzzle device, can’t offer the same benefits as the real thing. Instead, it comes with its own perks!
Inside the EMG Oppressor, we are treated to an Acetech Bifrost Tracer unit, widely known as the best tracer unit on the market currently. The Bifrost offers a plethora of functions including muzzle flash simulation, selectable colours for the LED array, Rainbow and Dynamic Rainbow mode as well as the option to run the unit as a simple tracer unit for when stealth is a priority.
The Bifrost was chosen primarily due to its ability to keep pace with extremely high rates of fire, up to 35 rounds per second; an essential for a Bolster Armouries build. Its wide range of mode options, selectable colours, extremely bright L.E.D array and the ability to use it without the muzzle flash for a more sneaky playstyle makes it ideal for the ONYX Blackout with its mix of sheer aggression and surreptitious styling.
Internal Enhancements
The internal parts present in the Bolster Armouries ONYX Blackout are hand-selected for the high quality materials used in their construction, as well as for their exceptional performance. Each Bolster Armouries Gearbox is hand-built, with each gear being perfectly shimmed for smooth operation, and the piston position also being corrected for the perfect Angle of engagement (AOE) to provide maximum efficiency and longevity.
This gearbox is matched with one of the most well-regarded steel tightbore inner barrels out there, renowned for its rigidity and high quality internal finish. This is paired with the latest and greatest CNC HOP-up unit to hit the market, the Gate EON rotary HOP-up unit and a Laylax/Prometheus Purple HOP-up rubber, based on the original Marui design but comprised of longer lasting materials. Let's have a closer look at what goes into an ONYX Blackout AEG, and why these parts are so noteworthy:
Laylax/Prometheus 6.03mm EG Inner Barrel - 285mm - Stainless Steel

The Prometheus 6.03mm EG inner barrel is constructed from SUS 304 stainless steel (also known as SS304 or AISI304), with a chromium content of between 18% and 20% and nickel content between 8% and 10.5%. This choice of material not only gives the inner barrel exceptional rigidity, but has higher corrosion resistance than other stainless steels, aluminium, or brass used in other inner barrels.
This inner barrel was chosen primarily for its reputation as one of the best AEG upgrades money can buy, but also for its precise dimensional tolerances which are guaranteed to be within 1/100th of a millimetre of the manufacturer's specs. This means we can confidently say your Bolster Armouries AEG will shoot straight and true, as long as you do your part! This part also serves as a great way to increase the FPS of an AEG by a small amount without adding additional strain to the gearbox, simply by using the compressed air provided by the piston more efficiently.

The Maple Leaf OMEGA HOP-up nub is intended to be a mass-produced alternative to the home-brewed R-HOP and flat HOP modifications of yesteryear. This provides the kind of performance you would expect from a very well made flat HOP modification, but with no chance of potential jams and considerably less likelihood of failure due to its single piece design.
The OMEGA nub has a concave contact surface, shaped to match that of a 6mm BB perfectly, providing HOP effect across the entire upper surface of the BB, instead of just a single point in the centre. This provides excellent side-to-side stability and an increased HOP effect, extending the range of the AEG into the borderline implausible!

The Gate EON CNC HOP-up chamber and its rotary adjuster are constructed from CNC machined aluminium and the HOP-up arm, redesigned C-clip, and barrel spacer are made from CNC machined POM polymer to provide the precise tolerances necessary for optimal air seal and consistency down range. When put to the test, the Bolster Armouries tech team found that this unit is easily the equal of the Pro-Win HOP-up unit, their former favourite, but with a fresh new look and some thoughtful enhancements.
Gate’s innovative EON CNC HOP-up unit boasts several refinements even Pro-Win didn’t think of! The new C-clip has a protrusion in the bottom which interfaces with the indexing groove on AEG inner barrels to prevent rotation from compromising accuracy, the feed chute features an O-ring to prevent BBs from falling out when the magazine is removed and the adjuster/dial is now numerically marked so you can keep track of your HOP-up settings for different ammo weights and save setup time!
As with the other Gate CNC parts in both the ONYX Blackout and the ONYX [Violet Edition], the EON HOP-up unit is finished in the striking Bolster Armouries custom metallic violet with a metallic grey adjustment dial. This allows you to pull back the PTS Raptor charging handle to "pop the hood", showcasing the unique finish applied to this superb HOP-up unit which simply cannot be bought separately, marking your ONYX out as a truly unique custom build.
Laylax Prometheus Krytac Spur Gear Spacer - CNC Machined Aluminium

The original Krytac steel gearset is equipped with self-shimming spring spacers on its spur gear, which reduces the need for complex and long winded shimming by attempting a "one size fits all" solution. This can be great for amateurs who want to upgrade their gearbox, as it removes the need to carry out the shimming process, which is one of the more difficult aspects of building a smooth running gearbox.
There are no amateurs at Bolster Armouries, and the main issue the Bolster team identified with this system is that whilst preferable to a bad shim job, the self-shimming spring spacers can cause additional rotational stress resulting in an increase in gear and motor noise, and long term wear.
The spring spacer originally inside the Bolster Armouries ONYX has been removed from the spur gear, replaced with the Prometheus CNC machined aluminium alloy spacer, and shimmed to a professional level to provide an exceptionally smooth running gearbox, with reduced friction, minimal noise from the gears, and a motor running smoothly without any additional stress caused by sub-optimal meshing and horizontal movement of the gears.

The Gate Protector CNC aluminium cylinder head is constructed from CNC machined aircraft grade aluminium to an extremely high degree of precision. The Protector is designed to ensure the nozzle aligns perfectly with the nozzle guide on the cylinder head itself to prevent feeding and FPS fluctuation issues due to what is known as “mid-cap syndrome”.
The Protector is also fitted with a shock-absorbing rubber bumper which functions the same way as the AirLab Sorbothane pad used in previous Bolster builds, reducing wear and stress on the gearbox shell and limiting wear on the piston head. To ensure we get the air seal qualities we should with a precise CNC machined part, the Protector also has a dual O-ring configuration around its circumference to completely close the gap between the cylinder and cylinder head.
The Protector variant used in the ONYX Blackout and ONYX [Violet Edition] is finished in Bolster’s unique metallic violet which is unfortunately not visible from the outside. What a shame! Nonetheless, the metallic violet colouration of this part is your certificate of authenticity as this finish is a Bolster Armouries exclusive and not available separately.
Gate Power CNC Aluminium Hybrid Piston Head - CNC Machined Aluminium - Bolster Armouries Violet

As with the ‘Protector’ cylinder head, the Gate Power Hybrid Piston Head is constructed from aircraft-grade aluminium using CNC machining technology to provide the tight tolerances necessary for a perfect fit between the cylinder walls and piston head and flawless air seal qualities. The Power Piston Head is also finished in Bolster Armouries' unique metallic violet, though it is hidden from sight inside the gearbox shell.
The Power piston head features a pair of O-rings to completely seal any gap between the cylinder and the piston head itself, completely eliminating air leaks to ensure that all the compressed air generated by the gearbox is translated into effect downrange.
Supplied with an AOE correcting spacer as well as special weight pads which allow for tuning for optimal performance with various weights of ammo, as you will receive it, the Power piston head is configured perfectly for the ONYX internal setup and the G&G Armament 0.28g BBs the Bolster Armouries team recommend.

The FPS Cylinder chosen for the Blackout is the Type C model, providing the perfect air volume for the Prometheus 285mm 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel, meaning no power is lost through “suck back” and a flawlessly efficient air seal system.
The FPS Steel Cylinder is ribbed on its exterior, but not for her pleasure! The role of these ribs is to more effectively seal the walls of the cylinder with those of the gearbox shell to prevent any air from leaking out. The inside of the cylinder is polished to a near-mirror finish, meaning minimal friction and minimal energy lost as the piston reciprocates back and forth.
Having a high quality cylinder installed is another way the Bolster Armouries gearbox maximizes efficiency, squeezing every last bit of usable air from each piston cycle, giving you higher FPS without adding strain to the gearbox.

The Gate NOVA CNC aluminium trigger allows for adjustable pre-travel and over-travel via two grub screws, one in the trigger body to adjust pre-travel, and one in the rear extension to adjust over-travel.

CYMA’s Platinum series piston has been highlighted by the Bolster team as a strong piston which perfectly combines the low weight of its polycarbonate piston body with a set of high strength steel teeth. This ensures the Laylax hardened steel gearset and Warhead Brushless Motor do not cause undue wear on this high-stress part and that power and cyclic rate are not reduced as a result of an overweight piston.
As installed in the Bolster Tuned AEG series, the CYMA piston has proven itself to be very strong and absolutely up to the task of providing a long lifespan at a high bar of performance, at least the equal of the SHS Piston used in previous Bolster builds.
Bolster Armouries M115 Spring - Ferrosilicochrome with Zinc coating

The Bolster Armouries M115 spring is constructed from SiCr Alloy (also known as Ferrosilicochrome), with a zinc coating to discourage corrosion. This Alloy is well known for its use in manufacturing springs for the automotive industry and many others requiring static torsion loaded springs with high corrosion resistance.
The spring is a non-linear design, reducing strain on the gearbox by varying the coil tension over the course of compressing the spring. This means the spring design takes advantage of the points in the cycle of the AEG where the piston is in the best position to handle the high strain, such as the midpoint, whilst reducing the initial load on the piston teeth.
This M115 spring has closed and flattened ends which reduce wear on the piston, and minimize the chance of it failing. The Bolster Team had these springs made this way in order to reduce the strain on the internal components in the high speed Bolster gearbox while providing the necessary velocity, and its design which provides optimal performance with a 6.03mm tight bore inner barrel.

With a far higher rate of fire than the average AEG, the Blackout requires an extra strong bevel gear to provide reliable cycling under the immense torque and speed provided by the Warhead Industries CNC Black Brushless Motor. Laylax is a Bolster favourite, and as such, it was a sure choice!
The Laylax Prometheus Bevel Gear is constructed from heat treated Japanese steel, meaning plenty of strength to provide the long term reliability a Bolster Armouries AEG needs. Gate TITAN MOSFET V2 Expert Firmware

Gate Electronics is well known amongst Airsofters for providing some of the best MOSFETs the Airsoft industry has to offer. These include the basic X-ASR which provides battery protection, the ASTER which adds GATE Control station App functionality, and the Gate's flagship option, the TITAN. The TITAN takes the already well equipped Bolster Armouries ONYX and transforms it from an extremely well tuned AEG into the realms of an advanced training weapon.
The TITAN provides a plethora of functions, including trigger travel adjustment, pre-cocking, Burst mode, Binary trigger, and adaptive active braking. A total of 8 optical sensors within the TITAN are used to track the movement of the gears, piston, and trigger to ensure the gears complete a full cycle with each trigger pull and the gears stop exactly where they should. The TITAN MOSFETs installed in the Bolster Armouries ONYX are pre-setup with the optimal settings for the platform and provide instantaneous trigger response and premium level functionality, including protection against over-discharge of your battery, short-circuits, and overheating.
Unlike other advanced MOSFETs, the TITAN has remarkably low power consumption and includes a "sleep mode" which activates when the ONYX has not been fired for some time. This protects your battery in the event that you forget to disconnect it after a skirmish, while other MOSFETs may drain the battery entirely over time, rendering the battery useless.
The settings programmed into the TITAN MOSFET by the Bolster Armouries tech team have been selected to provide the absolute optimum settings for the ONYX platform. The pre-set configuration includes pre-cocking set to medium speed for the best balance between prolonging the lifespan of the internals and providing the highly responsive trigger pre-cocking setups are known for.
A new trick up the legendary TITAN’s sleeve is its Expert firmware, now provided by default with every new Gate TITAN MOSFET. The Expert firmware allows for even more customisation options than ever before, but as with previous Bolster builds, the team advise you to stick to the settings they have programmed in to avoid causing undue wear and upsetting the delicate ecosystem inside the ONYX.

The motor is perhaps the most important part when it comes to providing extreme levels of performance in an Airsoft AEG, though with a faster motor comes the need to upgrade other internal components to prevent premature failure. In a home build, this often results in an "arms race" of parts so to speak, as whenever a part is upgraded it will require another part to be upgraded to prevent damage and maximize the AEG's potential.
The Bolster Armouries tech team is confident that their gearbox internals are the best available, and the only motor option that provides the speed, smooth running, and longevity to get the most out of the other enhanced parts would be the Warhead Industries Ultra High Speed motor. Known for their innovation and pushing the limits of Airsoft performance, Warhead Industries provide the best Airsoft motor around; utilizing the most up-to-date technology to provide a previously unheard of torque to weight ratio, and impressive heat dispersion.
The Warhead motor is housed inside a CNC machined 7075 aluminium shell with ribs machined in to reduce heat build-up within the motor, avoiding one of the primary causes of motor failure with their pioneering design. Utilizing "brushless" motor technology, the Warhead Ultra High Speed motor is considerably quieter than a standard motor, and uses superior quality Neodymium magnets combined with a hand-wound, temperature-resistant copper stator wind to provide its incredible 36,000 revolutions per minute cyclic rate.
Conventional brushed motors suffer immensely from heat build-up when operated for more than 30 seconds continuously, due to the high internal friction generated. In a brushless motor, the main source of heat build-up is simply friction with the air which can be kept at a manageable level for far longer. With the Warhead motor installed, your trigger finger will get tired far sooner than your ONYX AEG will!
This motor also includes an Electronic Speed Control (ESC) module, which is hidden beneath a CNC machined aluminium cover at the base of the motor. This circuit controls and regulates the speed of the motor whilst providing low voltage cut-off and over-current-draw protection, providing an additional level of safety for your high performance Bolster Armouries ONYX.

Magazines
The PTS EPM Magazines included with the Bolster Armouries ONYX platform require the very strong internal spring to be bedded in before use. To do this, simply fill the magazines using a standard speed loader (avoid using an ODIN or similar crank wound loader) and empty them again by pulling the BB retainer on the top of the magazine backwards with the feed/fill port pointed in a safe direction, preferably back into your BB bottle. Do this 2-3 times for each magazine before the initial use.
Battery
During the testing process, the Bolster Armouries techs found that the Onyx platform performs at its peak when using 11.1V 30C LiPo batteries. The use of a battery with a lower discharge rate (C rating) may cause FPS fluctuation issues and a drop in performance, and this is not considered a fault under the Bolster Armouries warranty. Please carefully consider which battery you use in the Onyx; with this level of internal precision and with a 36K motor and a TITAN MOSFET installed the AEG will require a very specific battery setup to perform at its best.

These table can be used as a reference to see if the BB weight you are using will be over acceptable Joulage limits at some Airsoft Sites in the UK. To check if the weight can be used chrono your weapon using the BB you intend to use, and then compare it to the chart.
FPS, Power and Joule Limits can vary from site to site, so please get in touch with where you're going to play with in advance to avoid disappointment.
Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, with a 350fps limit for Automatic Replicas, 400fps for Semi-Automatic Replicas, and 500fps for Bolt Action Replicas.
