Army Armament R30-2 1911 KeyCut Custom GBB Pistol

If you're into the 1911 platform but love modernity, this is the 1911 for you! The Army Armament R30-2 1911 KeyCut Custom GBB Pistol boasts full metal construction and a unique KeyCut ported slide, giving it a custom look with vibes of pistols with a far higher price tag. 

Inside, the internals are simple but functional, based on the Tokyo Marui design offering broad compatibility with an almost unlimited aftermarket of upgrade and customisation options. The HOP-up bucking and inner barrel are both VSR/GBB spec, giving you access to the best of the best when it comes to aftermarket barrels and buckings. Starting at the front of this classic pistol reinvented, we find the 12mm CCW female threaded outer barrel, making the 1911 KeyCut Custom tracer ready if you add the Army Armament thread adapter. 

On the top of the slide, we can find a front iron sight blade; a fixed post which aligns well with the adjustable rear sight. Just below, we have distinctive keyhole-style slide ports which do double duty as forward slide serrations, ensuring you have optimal gripping qualities whether you work the slide from the front or rear. The ports also cut down weight for a faster slide return speed and match nicely with the keyhole serrations at the rear, tying the design together. 

Moving rearwards, we can find the mock ejection port, through which the outer barrel's .45 ACP engraved markings can be seen, adding a touch of realism to this already fantastic replica. Running along the top of the slide, we are treated to anti-glare ribs which prevent glare from the sun from obstructing your sight picture. This is another hallmark of custom real steel pistols designed for competitive shooting and adds some extra visual interest to the slide design, though it hardly needs it!

As mentioned, the rear of the slide includes keyhole-style serrations to enhance grip, ensuring you can load the 1911 KeyCut Custom easily in wet weather or when wearing gloves. The hammer is present at the rear, a skeletonised design to add to the custom aesthetic with texture on the top to allow the hammer to be manually cocked for those cool action movie standoff moments!

On the left side, we can find the slide release catch, equipped with serrations on the upper surface to ensure it can be operated when wet or in adverse weather. Those with smaller hands might find this slide lock/release hard to reach but it should be compatible with aftermarket extended catches to make handling a little easier. The magazine release is also on the left side, where the trigger guard meets the frame; easily reached from a firing grip with texture on its surface for optimal traction. 

The trigger guard itself follows the standard 1911 profile but includes texture on the bottom, designed to ensure your grip is consistent and keep the pistol firmly in your grasp under violent recoil.  The trigger is a straight-back design with 3 stylish ports, further reducing weight and contributing to the overall custom looks of this unique sidearm. The front face of the trigger also includes linear texture to keep your finger firmly in position as it does its dirty work. This allows for a consistent and accurate trigger pull, taking pure advantage of the light and short pull of a 1911 trigger. 

The manual safety catch is ambidextrous, found on the left and right side of the frame positioned comfortably under the shooter's thumb, perfect for cocked and locked carry. Pushing either of the catches upwards will lock the trigger, requiring a simple push down to make the pistol dangerous again. Part of the 1911 design which has lasted the ages all the way up to the 2011/Hi-Capa platform, the manual safeties make a great place to index the thumb and apply downforce to keep muzzle rise to a minimum during rapid fire. 

On the rear of the pistol's frame, we have what is known as a beavertail grip safety; a hallmark feature of the 1911 allowing it to get away with a super short trigger pull and still be safe by locking the trigger until the pistol is gripped properly. The beavertail safety ensures the trigger cannot be inadvertently pressed when drawing quickly from a holster, a painful experience which should never happen as long as you're using the 1911 as John Moses Browning intended!

The polymer grip panels on either side are adorned with diamond checkering to ensure the 1911 KeyCut Custom doesn't slip out of your hands during wet weather. Likewise, the front of the frame is textured, as is the "hammer spring housing" at the rear, making this far more grippy than the original 1911 and well insulated against wet-weather mishaps. At the base of the grip, we are equipped with a flared magazine well which helps guide the magazine in; an extremely useful feature for reloading on the move or when pumped with adrenaline. 

Internally, the 1911 KeyCut Custom is based on the Tokyo Marui 1911 internal design, meaning a vast amount of aftermarket upgrade and customisation options if your taste changes down the line. The adjustable HOP-up unit is on the left side of the outer barrel and accessible with the slide removed. To achieve this, first remove the mag. Next, rack the slide so the hammer is back. With this done, pull the slide back to align the rear of the slide lock with the small semi-circular cutout on the left side of the slide. Holding the slide in this position, push the slide lock/release catch through from the right, after which the slide should come forward and off the pistol. Adjusting the HOP-up lets you tune the trajectory of your BBs and allow for heavier ammo to be used, seeking the flattest possible flight path.
