Army Armament R28 1911 MEU Pistol

1911s are very cool, but so many of them are stuck in the past! Luckily, Army Armament has revitalised the 1911 and created a modernised replica of the 1911 MEU Pistol. It has the same shape as the classic pistol we all love, except now, it boasts a 20mm Picatinny frame rail with a skeletonised trigger and hammer! These enhancements may not sound too crazy, but they really do help give this pistol a modern feel.

Starting at the front of this classic pistol, we find the threaded outer barrel. It is 12cm CCW female threading, so a thread adapter will be required if you wish to attach the common 14mm CCW muzzle devices such as suppressors or tracer units. The tactical edition, however, comes with said thread adapter preinstalled, so you can get straight to mounting your mission-essential muzzle device!

Then, at the front of the slide we can find a front iron sight blade, this design means no amount of bumping and shaking will have your sights walk out of alignment. It features a luminous green dot on it for easier target acquisition when quickly aiming down sights. Another benefit of this type of sight is the low snag nature; the lack of adjustability means less to snag on and a smoother draw from your holster when it's time to start blasting.

Due to the 1911's extremely instinctive design, holding this pistol gives you the feeling you have held it before, with the sights being easy to align and large enough for easy acquisition, plus, all the controls falling right under your fingers, this pistol was clearly designed with ergonomics in mind.

Moving rearwards, we can find the mock ejection port, through which the outer barrel's .45 ACP engraved markings can be seen. The rear of the slide features serrations on both sides to ensure the shooter has a solid grip when cocking the pistol, regardless of the weather conditions. The slide release catch has checkered texturing on the upper surface to ensure it can be operated when wet or in adverse weather. Likewise, the magazine release is textured and is right where you expect to find it, well within reach of your thumb whilst firing, on the left side of the grip.

The front face of the trigger also includes the lined texture. This allows for a consistent and accurate trigger pull, taking pure advantage of the light and short pull of a 1911 trigger. The safety lever can be found on the left side of the frame and sits comfortably under the shooter's thumb, perfect for cocked and locked carry. This safety lever is of a period-accurate design, with no extensions or other silly modern bits, just how it's supposed to be.

On the rear of the pistol's frame, we have what is known as a beavertail grip safety a hallmark feature of the 1911 allowing it to get away with a super short trigger pull and still be safe by disconnecting the trigger until the pistol is gripped in a ready to shoot position. The beavertail safety ensures the trigger cannot be inadvertently pressed when drawing from a holster, which can be quite a painful experience!

Just above the grip safety, we come to the hammer which is has a skeletonised design. This cuts down some weight but also gives the pistol a very modern style. This pairs well with the skeletonised trigger which also adds to the modern look of this 1911 style pistol. The polymer grips have effective checkering to ensure this pistol doesn't slip out of your hands during wet weather. The magazine well of this pistol has cutouts for an Army Armament CO2 magazine but modification may be required.
