  • Takedown rifle - Quick disassembly
  • Supplied in a super slick hard case

If you skirmish in a suit with a silverballer, you need this rifle! The Ares MSR-WR Takedown Sniper Rifle Kit with Hard Case is one of the coolest Airsoft guns we've seen in some time; a unique takedown-style bolt action sniper rifle which can be disassembled in minutes to be stored in its own unique hard case.

The set also includes a mini bipod with extendable legs which mounts to the pre-installed bipod spigot on the front of the chassis, giving you everything you need to get sniping other than your choice of optic, though Ares left space inside the hard case for an optic or suppressor, depending on your needs.

Internally, the MSR-WR is compatible with upgrade parts for the Ares TX sniper rifle system, broadly based on the VSR-10 design, though we are currently unable to confirm VSR compatibility. The HOP-up unit is a TDC type using a grub screw to adjust, promising an improved ability to hold its setting and less side-to-side deviation than a standard VSR slider HOP-up. Out of the box, the MSR-WR hits out at a tasty 420 FPS using 0.2g BBs and its short and easy bolt pull makes it fantastic for rapid follow-up shots. If you're a fan of takedown rifles or want an assassin-style primary for your Agent 47 loadout, the Ares MSR-WR Takedown Sniper Rifle Kit with Hard Case will suit you perfectly!

Description

As far as sniper rifles go, the Ares MSR-WR Takedown Sniper Rifle Kit with Hard Case is one of the most exciting and unique designs we've seen yet! Supplied in a fantastic quality hard case with pre-cut foam so everything is stored neatly and professionally, the MSR-WR can be fully assembled in under a minute without needing tools, making it perfect for minimalist snipers and those who like the professional, hitman-style presentation!

Assembling the rifle requires that the barrel is mounted using the included barrel nut, both stored in the upper section of the included case, neatly separated from the action of the rifle with a polymer divider. To install the barrel, all you need to do is orient it so the crosshead screw faces down and the TDC HOP-up adjuster faces up, press it into the receiver and tighten down the barrel nut with the steel pin poking through the receiver held rearwards.

The included bipod and muzzle brake are also stored in the upper section with the barrel; the muzzle brake simply threads onto the 14mm CW male barrel threads and the bipod can be quickly attached to the pre-installed bipod spigot at the front of the chassis, once again, requiring no tools whatsoever. Now we have the rifle assembled, let's check it out!

Starting at the front, we can find the muzzle brake mounted to the tip of the fluted outer barrel via 14mm CW male threads. This means you can mount a suppressor or tracer by using a 14mm CW to 14mm CCW thread adapter and even use GOOB-style suppressors thanks to the barrel's reduced profile at the tip. The barrel fluting both looks fantastic and adds realism, serving to reduce weight and improve cooling properties in real steel form.

Following the barrel, we reach the barrel nut which is knurled to allow for easy assembly and disassembly. This leads onto the chassis/receiver which includes a 20mm Picatinny rail running along the top, ready for a red dot sight or scope. At the front of the chassis, we can find the steel bipod spigot which is designed for the included bipod. All you need to do to mount it is push it on. To remove it, hold down the catch on the bipod mount and slide it off again.

The bipod also has extendable spring-loaded legs which can be deployed by pressing the catch on each and set at your choice of 4 different positions. To fold the bipod and stow it beneath the barrel, simply press the legs together and fold the entire unit up. This is great for situations where you need to get very low, allowing you to take advantage of the surrounding terrain and get better cover without removing the bipod entirely. The position of the bipod mount also helps cure the usual handling compromises associated with bipods, meaning the small extra amount of weight gained by adding the bipod won't upset the handling qualities of the MSR-WR.

The action itself is a standard bolt action style layout but has a super short bolt throw of only a couple of inches, giving the MSR-WR a super fast bolt pull ideal for rapid follow-up shots. The bolt handle itself is extended and has linear texture at the tip to improve traction and wet-weather handling.

The fire controls are very modern, steering well clear of the VSR-10 style controls based on the ageing Remington R-700 design. The magazine release is located on the magazine well and is very similar to an M4/AR-15 release and easily reached from a firing grip. The safety catch is ambidextrous, centrally positioned inside the trigger guard with the forward position being fire and the rear being safe. The location of the safety makes the MSR-WR easy to switch from safe to fire with minimal movement; a prerequisite of a well-designed sniper platform.

The pistol grip is based on that of the M4/AR-15 platform, with substantial finger grooves to encourage proper positioning and dot texture on either side to provide ample traction for wet weather operations. The stock is extendable via the button on the left side of the receiver and when at its full length, the cheek riser can be adjusted by loosening the thumb screw on the butt plate, sliding it into your position of choice and tightening the screw back down. At the toe of the stock, we are also treated to a 20mm Picatinny monopod rail, just in case you want to add a monopod for extra support.

Inside, the MSR-WR is based around the Ares TX sniper rifle system and should be compatible upgrades for TX series rifles. The HOP-up unit is a TDC grub screw style unit, offering improved setting retention and reduced side-to-side shot deviation compared to the standard VSR-10 slider HOP-up unit. The best aspect of the MSR-WR is its super short bolt throw, allowing you to shoot far more quickly than a VSR or similar sniper rifle and correct for any misses due to wind or target movement quickly, before the fleeting chance to engage is lost.

If you like the idea of a sniper rifle which can be assembled in under a minute and stored in a professional and compact hard storage case, you'll only get that with the Ares MSR-WR Takedown Sniper Rifle Kit with Hard Case! Ideal for minimalist snipers who like to travel light and hitman fans looking for a sniper rifle to get the job done at range, the MSR-WR is fantastically built on the outside and incredibly satisfying to build with above average out of the box performance as a bonus!

Special Instructions

Some of our Ares MSR-WR rifles have slight marks and scratches on the parts which make contact during the assembly and disassembly process. This is likely to have occurred from the testing process either at the factory or distributor and the marks are not visible when the rifle is assembled. Please consider this carefully before making your purchase.

Assembly Instructions

To assemble the MSR-WR is quite easy but is even easier with a proper explanation! In the box, your barrel and receiver are supplied separately. The barrel needs to be oriented with the crosshead screw on the base facing down and the indexing lug on the barrel base facing up to align with the notch in the receiver. With the barrel in this position, you can then push it rearwards into the receiver. Next, hold the steel pin protruding through the receiver rearwards and tighten the barrel nut until firm.

Special Instructions

These table can be used as a reference to see if the BB weight you are using will be over acceptable Joulage limits at some Airsoft Sites in the UK. To check if the weight can be used chrono your weapon using the BB you intend to use, and then compare it to the chart.

FPS, Power and Joule Limits can vary from site to site, so please get in touch with where you're going to play with in advance to avoid disappointment.

Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, with a 350fps limit for Automatic Replicas, 400fps for Semi-Automatic Replicas, and 500fps for Bolt Action Replicas.

Tap the tabs below to open the relevant chart for your replica.

Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, and is the equivalent of 350fps, using 0.20g BB resulting in an upper limit of 1.14j.
