- Full metal construction - Mostly steel
- Optical MOSFET pre-installed - Highly advanced
- High Torque motor - Snappy trigger response!
If you are familiar with modern Russian firearms, then you must have instantly recognised this PPK-20! It is the latest iteration of the PP-19 Vityaz platform and it further develops the AK-style SMG, featuring an adjustable slide folding stock, an AK-12 grip and a compact threaded suppressor. This mean-looking SMG will definitely lay waste to any skirmishers who are unfortunate enough to encounter you during a CQB!
This monster is constructed almost entirely from steel, with a flawlessly realistic finish applied to the externals and the hefty feel that an AK-derived platform deserves. On the inside, things are equally special as the PPK-20 is rocking an Optical MOSFET, high torque motor, a plethora of reinforced internal components, a rotary style HOP-up unit and a 6.01mm stainless steel tightbore inner barrel. If you are an AK kinda guy and you appreciate a fully upgraded platform with perfect realism, the PPK-20 will absolutely put a smile on your face!

Description
Arcturus is known for its amazing range of modernised Airsoft AK AEG rifles, offering the latest variants of the respected platform in a full steel form, packed with realistic-looking features and state of the art preinstalled internal parts to match! The PPK-20 is the latest iteration of the real steel PP-19 platform, building on the PP-19-01 by adding a modernised AK-19 stock and a threaded AK-9 suppressor into the tried and tested AK SMG format.
As with the PP-19-01, the PPK-20 boasts a massive proportion of steel used in its construction, high-density polymer handguards and pistol grip, and this version is also rocking a pre-installed Optical MOSFET to improve the trigger response and protect the internal circuitry from excess wear. Also inside this PPK-20 AEG is a 23TPA high torque motor, an 18:1 gear set, a 6.01mm stainless steel tightbore inner barrel and a plethora of reinforced gearbox internals. No need to plan any upgrades with this AEG, that's for sure!
Starting at the tip of the outer barrel we can find a PPK-20 style birdcage flash hider which is constructed from aluminium and machined immaculately. The flash hider is attached to the barrel via 14mm CCW male threads at the tip of the 9.4-inch steel outer barrel and can be swapped out easily with the included PPK-20 suppressor or your preferred tracer unit, muzzle device or silencer. Just remember to remove the grub screw before attempting to unthread the flash hider, don't cause any unnecessary damage to the threads!
The front sight/gas block is appropriately styled to stay true to the real PPK-20, including an adjustable front sight post and a single slot of 20mm Picatinny rail at the bottom. This is the perfect location to add a tactical flashlight, especially if you are running the included suppressor as this forward mounting point will minimise the infamous "suppressor shadow".
To the rear of the front sight/gas block, we can find the handguard caps, which hold the polymer handguards tightly onto the PPK-20 for a rock-solid feel. These handguard caps are constructed from steel, as one might expect being made by Arcturus, known for using real steel when other manufacturers use alloy. On the lower handguard cap, we can find our first sling point which is positioned on the left side and ideally suited to an AK-style sling or two-point sling when used together with the sling slot or QD sling socket on the stock.
The handguards of the PPK-20 are full AK length, meaning if you have large hands you will not feel cramped holding this AEG like you might with an AKS-74U or other short-style AK platforms. The lower handguard features ribs on either side for the classic modernised AK look, matching other Russian modernised AKs while also providing exceptional gripping qualities when working in the rain or wearing gloves. This is a massive improvement over traditional wood handguards, though they may look gorgeous, they can become a hassle to keep hold of during wet weather conditions.
The lower handguard also features a full-length 20mm Picatinny rail built into the bottom and a short section on the right side, at the 3 o'clock position. This allows you to mount a vertical or angled foregrip for improved ergonomics when transitioning between targets, and the short side rail is ideal for a flashlight or laser. The upper handguard is slick but has a slightly rough feel indicative of the fibre-reinforced polymers used in its construction.
Moving rearwards we come to the trunnion block, to which the rear iron sight of the PPK-20 mounts. This is the typical AK-style tangent open sight with a wider rear notch for faster sight acquisition when exchanging fire in close quarters. This sight adjusts in the same way a standard AK rear sight does; by squeezing both textured buttons on either side of the slider you can raise or lower the sight to suit your engagement range. The sight is marked in increments of tens of meters, which only applies to the real PPK-20, but is a nice addition for authenticity. On the right side of the trunnion block, we can see the handguard/gas tube removal lever, which can be rotated upwards to remove the upper handguard, just like the real PPK-20!
Moving backwards from the trunnion block, we come to the receiver which is constructed from a strong steel with a thick and hard-wearing paint finish to match the look and feel of the real Russian AKs of recent years. This finish is very unique, and the texture of the surface makes it feel similar to polymer however, the hefty weight and sturdy feel can assure you that this receiver is constructed from steel. As with all AKs, both real and Airsoft, the receiver will still develop the classic AK selector lever scratch, though the rear side of the selector lever has been redesigned to alleviate this somewhat (who wouldn't want the full, authentic look though?!)
The top cover of the PPK-20 boasts a lengthy 20mm Picatinny rail, ready for a Western 20mm red dot sight or scope to be mounted. A nice change, for an AK variant! This was made possible by the PPK-20's hinged top cover which creates a stable platform suitable for mounting optical sights and retaining a good zero.
The battery compartment of the PPK-20 can be found beneath the hinged top cover and can be accessed by pressing the button at the rear of the receiver inwards, similar to a standard AK. With the button pressed, the top cover will hinge open, and inside you can find a Deans wire connector. A battery we recommend for this PPK-20 is a 7.4v 1000mAh 20C LiPo Battery as it will comfortably fit in the top of the receiver. If you would prefer to use a mini-Tamiya battery instead, a Deans to mini-Tamiya adapter is provided in the box.
The lower receiver of the PPK-20 follows the same familiar format as the rest of this platform, it's just like an AK, but smaller! The fire selector can be found on the right side and is the renowned AK-style hybrid selector/dust cover with its distinct shape. This fire selector also sports an extended section that allows the lever to be operated with your trigger finger to speed up the fire-selecting of the PPK-20 and keep it competitive with SMG-5, UMP and modern AR-9 style submachine guns.
The selector switch is constructed from steel and offers 3 fire modes; safe at the top, full-auto in the middle, and semi-auto at the bottom. The pre-installed Optical MOSFET also allows for programming burst modes, binary trigger and many more modes, so if you ever get bored with the default configuration you can change it up quickly and easily!
The adjustable HOP-up unit of the PPK-20 can be found behind the mock bolt carrier and can be accessed when the charging handle is held to the rear. This HOP-up unit is a new design, replacing the old "slider" style adjuster with a more modern TDC rotary adjuster. This allows for more precise HOP-up adjustment and less chance of left-to-right deviation thanks to the design applying pressure directly to the top of the HOP nub, with no angular force applied.
On the bottom of the receiver, we can find a flared magazine well where we would usually find the classic AK "rock and lock" style mag well. This is one of the enhancements which keeps the Vityaz going toe to toe with modern Western designs in the area of ergonomics. The magazine well that is fitted allows for a straight-in insertion method, preventing the faff with "rock and lock" magazines, and makes reloading quick and easy when compared to a standard AK. Put simply, this means better ergonomics and faster reloads!
Also included in the box is a wider extension for the magazine well, which can be added to allow for even easier reloads on the move, and while your eyes are up and scanning the environment. Positioned at the centre rear of the magazine well we can find the ambidextrous magazine catch, which can be used with the classic AK "mag flip" reload, or actuated with the thumb for both left and right-handed users.
Next up, we arrive at the pistol grip and trigger guard, which are patterned after the AK but with some consideration given to ergonomics, for a change. The grip is styled after the real steel AK-12 grip, as it is on the genuine PPK-20 SMG. The AK12 pistol grip is a significant ergonomic improvement over the legacy AK grip and has comfortable finger grooves with bevelled relief cuts for added comfort. The grip is set at a more vertical angle than the older AK grip which provides a more comfortable wrist position when shooting with the stock fully collapsed. AK platforms are not usually known for their comfort or ergonomics, so it is nice to see the PPK-20 attempt to redeem the AK platform by giving us a little more comfort to suit our pampered sensitive Western hands!
The trigger guard is the same as that found on the original AK rifle and needs no changes thanks to its wide profile allowing for use with thick gloves, and its thin yet robust steel construction. On the bottom of the trigger guard, you will find your unique serial number laser engraved in.
The stock is where things begin to deviate from the slightly older PP-19-01 platform. Installed on the PPK-20, we are treated to the AK-19 pattern of stock, a modern Russian design which follows the format of SCAR, ACR and other modern stocks. Similar to the PP-19-01 stock, this AK-19 stock offers side folding functionality, allowing the PPK-20 to fit into smaller gun bags and be transported with ease. At the base of the stock on each side, we are treated to a QD sling socket insert constructed from steel, allowing for a slick modern QD sling setup to be mounted using QD sling swivels if you so choose.
The stock also offers length of pull adjustment via the lever at the toe of the stock, giving you 7 positions to choose from to compensate for bulky body armour vests or different body types. The butt plate is constructed from grippy rubber with an aggressively serrated surface, to guarantee the stock will not slip off your shoulder during wet weather operations.
The stock folds similarly to a legacy AK-74 platform, making use of a button on the left side of the receiver, just above the pistol grip. Pressing this button will defeat the locking mechanism and allow the stock to be folded to the side. To deploy the stock again, simply pull downwards on the steel tab protruding from the folding mech at the rear of the receiver and the stock can then be folded back into position. This stock is a lot easier to handle than an AK-74 stock, requiring only the folding mechanism to keep things in place instead of the protruding hook used on the AK-74.
On the inside, this PPK-20 has some premium parts from previous ARCTURUS releases with an 18:1 gear set that gives an 18rps rate of fire approximately. The steel gears run on 8mm ball bearing bushings for reduced friction and reduced stress on the gearbox shell and the quick change spring guide is also constructed from steel and mounted on ball bearings to prolong the life of the spring.
The pre-installed neodymium 23TPA High Torque motor combines perfectly with the optical MOSFET and CNC steel gearset to give you a performance that will make you smile, whilst bringing the adversaries to tears! The optical MOSFET is the star of the show, offering a wide variety of programmable options including multiple alternative fire modes, a two-stage "progressive" trigger, a rate of fire adjustment and trigger sensitivity adjustment to name a few. This is an advanced MOSFET to find pre-installed in an AEG and we love ARCTURUS for giving us such amazing internals straight out of the box.
The MOSFET can also be set for pre-cocking and active braking and is fully user-configurable via the fire controls of the AEG, meaning no need for aftermarket programmers, connecting to your PC or phone or any other faffing; simply program your preferred configuration using combinations of fire selector movement and trigger pulls (a programming card with instructions is included in the box).
In conclusion, if you want an SMG that shoots amazing straight out of the box, and is also based around the iconic AK receiver, then the ARCTURUS PPK-20 Vityaz AEG is definitely for you! Constructed from mostly steel and containing some premium internals, this Russian SMG replica will most certainly not let you down!
