ARCTURUS PP-19-01 ZTAC SP1 AEG w/Optical MOSFET

If you are into AKs and want a platform that stands out, both for its unique style and insane performance, look no further than the ARCTURUS PP-19-01 ZTAC SP1 AEG. This ARCTURUS AEG boasts ultra-modern Zco-style furniture across the design, this mimics SMG platforms used by Russian security agencies and special forces. A truly exciting platform, both inside and out!

As with other ARCTURUS AK, the PP-19-01 ZTAC SP1 boasts a large amount of steel used in its construction, CNC aluminium handguards and a high-density polymer pistol grip. This version is also rocking a pre-installed Optical MOSFET to improve the trigger response and protect the internal circuitry from excess wear. Also inside this PP-19-01 ZTAC SP1 AEG is a 23TPA high torque motor, an 18:1 gear set, a 6.01mm stainless steel tightbore inner barrel and a plethora of reinforced gearbox internals. Minimum upgrades are required with this AEG, that's for sure!

Starting at the front, we have a rather long outer barrel for an SMG platform, meaning you can rock the SMG look with assault rifle levels of accuracy and range. The barrel features 14mm CCW male threading at the tip, and the package includes two different muzzle devices to choose from. A DTK-2 style muzzle brake and a DTK Saiga suppressor give you the option to go loud or silent with your PP-19-01 depending on the mission requirements.

The handguard of this AEG is a unique stepped-down arrangement patterned after real steel Zco parts. The upper handguard features 2 sections of weight-reduced 20mm Picatinny rail; one ahead of the front iron sight and one to the rear. The front rail is the perfect spot to mount a tactical flashlight to minimise shadow, and the rear section is profiled to allow for a comfortable grip but can also be used to mount a laser aiming module.

The sides and bottom of the handguard are equipped with Zco negative space attachment slots which allow the included 20mm Picatinny rail sections and hand stop to be fitted wherever you find them most comfortable. The extended design of this handguard allows you to take a comfortable stance and sweep the muzzle quickly between targets, equally useful for those who use an extended grip or those who prefer to grip closer to the magazine well.

Moving rearwards we come to the trunnion block, to which the rear iron sight mounts. This is the typical AK-style tangent open sight with a wider rear notch for faster target acquisition when exchanging fire at close range. This sight adjusts in the same way a standard AK rear sight does; by squeezing the textured buttons on either side of the slider you can raise and lower the sight to suit your engagement range. Elevation adjustments are applied via the front sight using an AK sight adjustment tool. The rear sight is marked in tens of meters, which doesn't apply to Airsoft, but is a nice addition for authenticity. On the right side of the trunnion block, we can see the handguard/gas tube disassembly lever, which can be rotated upwards to remove the upper handguard once you have removed the riser rail, just like the real thing!

Above the rear sight, we are treated to a short section of 20mm Picatinny rail in a raised position, ideally suited for a micro red dot sight. When installed here, the sight line of a micro red dot gives you a very functional and comfortable shooting position, giving a bit more room for a full face mask and allowing you to keep your neck straight and upright, per the modern shooting creed. If you prefer a more rearward-mounted optic, you can remove this section by removing the rearmost two screws on the sides of the handguard, after which it can be lifted off.

Following the trunnion block, we come to the receiver, constructed from steel with a thick and hard-wearing paint finish that perfectly matches real Russian AKs of recent years. This finish is very unique, and its textured surface almost makes it feel like a polymer, were it not for the hefty feel of the PP-19-01 and its attraction to magnets. As with all AKs, real or Airsoft, this receiver will still develop the classic AK selector lever scratch, though the rear side has been redesigned to somewhat alleviate this.

The top cover of the PP-19-01 boasts a lengthy 20mm Picatinny rail, ready for a Western 20mm red dot sight or scope to be mounted. A nice change for an AK variant, a modern twist! This was made possible by the platform's hinged top cover which creates a stable platform suitable for mounting optical sights and retaining a good zero. There is plenty of space up top for anything you may want to mount, including red dot sights, rifle scopes and even rear-mounted magnifiers.

The battery compartment of the PP-19-01 can be found beneath the hinged top cover and can be accessed by pressing the button at the rear of the receiver inwards, similar to a standard AK. With the button pressed, the top cover will hinge open, and inside you can find a Deans connector to which you connect your battery. For the PP-19-01, we recommend a  7.4v 1000mAh 20C LiPo Battery as it will comfortably fit in the top of the receiver. For those who prefer to use a mini-Tamiya battery, a Deans to mini-Tamiya adapter is provided in the box.

The lower receiver of the PP-19-01 follows a familiar format; it looks nearly identical to a classic AK, but smaller! The fire selector can be found on the right side and is the renowned AK-style hybrid selector/dust cover with its recognisable shape. This fire selector also sports an extended section which allows the lever to be operated with the trigger finger, very handy for speedy alterings between safe and firing modes.

The selector switch is constructed from steel, and as with the AK rifle, the selector offers 3 fire modes; safe at the top, full-auto in the middle, and semi-auto at the bottom. The pre-installed Optical MOSFET also allows for programming burst modes, binary trigger and many more modes, so if you ever get bored with the default configuration you can change it up quickly and easily! 

The adjustable HOP-up unit of the PP-19-01 can be found behind the mock bolt carrier and can be accessed when the charging handle is held to the rear. This HOP-up unit is a new design, replacing the old "slider" style adjuster with a more modern TDC rotary adjuster. This allows for more precise HOP-up adjustment and less chance of left-to-right deviation thanks to the design applying pressure directly to the top of the HOP nub instead of the side, with no angular force applied.

On the bottom of the receiver, we can find a flared magazine well where we would usually find the classic AK "rock and lock" style mag well. This enhancement keeps this PP-19-01 in competition with modern Western designs when it comes to ergonomics. The magazine well allows for a straight-in insertion method, preventing the faff with "rock and lock" magazines, and makes reloading quick and easy when compared to a standard AK. Put simply, better ergonomics means faster reloads!

Also included in the box is a wider extension for the magazine well, which can be added to allow for even easier reloads on the move. Positioned at the centre rear of the magazine well we can find the ambidextrous magazine catch, which can be used with the classic AK "mag flip" reload, or actuated with the thumb for either left or right-handed users.

Next up, we arrive at the pistol grip and trigger guard, which are patterned after the AK but with some consideration given to ergonomics, for a change. The grip is styled after the real steel Zco KP-3 pistol grip, featuring a dot texture on each side for improved grip and comfortable finger grooves at the front to help support the PP-19-01 when held in the "high ready" position. AK platforms are not usually known for their comfort or ergonomics, so it's nice to see that the PP-19-01 is providing us sensitive Westerners with a little more comfort!

The trigger guard is the same as that found on the original AK rifle and needs no changes thanks to its wide profile allowing for use with thick gloves, and its thin yet robust steel construction. On the bottom of the trigger guard, you will find your unique serial number laser engraved below the ARCTURUS logo. 

Bringing up the rear, we are treated to what is probably the most adjustable rifle stock available, for the AK platform or otherwise! This stock is known as the Zco PT-1 and offers an adjustable length of pull via the magnetic catch on the right side, adjustable cheek riser height via the bolts on the right side and an adjustable butt plate. Also present on the PT-1 stock is an ambidextrous sling bar for modern sling setups and an AK-style sling point on the right side for those who prefer an AK-style sling setup.

The adjustable butt plate allows you to set it up at the right height to suit your loadout and allows the entire position of the stock to be raised, allowing for large night vision optics and thermal devices to be fitted and intuitively used. Like the old-school AK-74 side folder, the PT-1 can also be folded to the left side of the platform for storage or transportation using the button on the rear left of the receiver.

On the inside, this PP-19-01 has some premium parts also found in previous ARCTURUS releases, with an 18:1 gear set that gives a consistent, fast rate of fire. The steel gears run on 8mm ball bearing bushings for reduced friction and reduced stress on the gearbox shell and the quick change spring guide is also constructed from steel and mounted on ball bearings to prolong the life of the spring.

The pre-installed neodymium 23TPA High Torque motor combines perfectly with the optical MOSFET and CNC steel gearset to give you a performance that will make you glow from glee and the added benefit of bringing the adversaries to tears! The optical MOSFET deserves the spotlight, offering a wide variety of programmable options including multiple alternative fire modes, a two-stage "progressive" trigger, a rate of fire adjustment and trigger sensitivity adjustment, just to name a few. This is an advanced MOSFET to find pre-installed in an AEG and we adore ARCTURUS for giving us such amazing internals straight out of the box.

The MOSFET can also be set for pre-cocking and active braking and is fully user-configurable via the fire controls of the AEG, meaning no need for aftermarket programmers, connecting to your PC or phone or any other sort of dilly-dallying. You can simply program your preferred configuration using combinations of fire selector movement and trigger pulls (a programming card with instructions is included in the box).

The combination of fantastic steel core externals with state-of-the-art Zco CNC aluminium furniture and some great internals make this AK SMG a master of all trades, requiring minimum future upgrades other than being decked out with the best accessories to complete your special ops look.
