- Full metal construction
- Real-world accurate MP40 replica
- Steel upper receiver - Realistic build
The AGM MP40 AEG brings one of the early Twentieth Century's most iconic and infamous machine pistols onto the Airsoft market. If you are looking for an SMG for WW2 reenactment, you can't beat an MP40, whether you are running a Wehrmacht loadout, resistance fighter or allied loadout, the MP40 has found its way into the hands of many unlikely users as a battlefield pickup weapon and is still used today in conflict zones around the world by various rebel groups.
AGM's MP40 boasts full metal construction, offering a realistically hefty build to satisfy those who want the most true-to-life experience when skirmishing. Internally, the MP40 makes use of a modified version 3 gearbox, meaning upgraded gears and cylinder groups are a go for performance seekers. Whether you are working on your WW2 loadout or you want an interesting and rarely seen primary for walk-on skirmishes, the AGM MP40 is ideal for the job.

Description
This is a wonderful replica of one of the most common, but often ignored automatic weapons of the Second World War, which accurately captures the real steel MP40's appearance with its characteristic hooded front iron sight and a choice of either brown bakelite-style plastic furniture or black. Although designed as a Machine Pistol, the MP40 features an under-folding stock constructed from Alloy, which when not in use neatly folds away swinging down under the gun, reducing its size for CQB or storage, and providing users with an additional grip.
At the tip of the MP40's alloy outer barrel, we can find a thread protector which conceals 14mm CW male threading beneath. This means that you can add any 14mm CCW male threaded accessory using a 14mm CW to 14mm CCW adapter. Adding a tracer or suppressor to the MP40 may not be the most historically accurate choice, but it sure does look cool and gives the AEG some added battlefield functionality.
Following the thread protector we come to the front sight of the MP40, which is a square front sight post surrounded by a protective hood. The hood protects the front sight in the event of a drop, avoiding potential damage to this vulnerable and essential part of the AEG. The front sight is the perfect size for Airsoft engagements, being wide enough for fast acquisition but fine enough that accurate shots can still be made. This front sight pairs with the rear "notch" sight, which offers two selectable notches of different sizes, with the secondary notch being optimised for longer ranges. The rear sight is located mid-way along the receiver, giving the MP40 a long sight radius for better accuracy.
Moving rearwards we come to the barrel nut, which connects the outer barrel to the receiver. On the left side, just behind the nut, we can find our front sling point which can be set up in conjunction with the rear sling point at the back of the receiver for a traditional MP40 replica sling.
Next up we reach the receiver, which is designed to perfectly simulate the real MP40's stamped receiver construction. The magazine well is a separate piece which is bent over the top of the receiver around the ejection port, and the top of the receiver includes the grooves and geometry of the real MP40's stamped receiver. This is a nice touch and keeps the MP40 faithful to the real thing, even on close inspection. The receiver is also constructed from steel which is a great choice for both realism and strength.
The magazine release is located on the left side of the receiver, on the magazine well, and can be pressed with the support hand thumb during a reload. The surface of the release is textured to ensure you can press it in any weather condition and is well placed considering that the MP40 was designed to be gripped by the magazine, or just behind.
The controls for the MP40 are simple; the Fire Selector features a 'Semi' and 'Fully Automatic" position, and the "safe" position is provided by an "on/off" switch found on the base of the pistol grip. This gives us Airsoft-worthy functionality but keeps the exterior mostly faithful to the real MP40. If you want it to look even closer to the real deal there are modifications available which allow you to remove the fire selector switch entirely, though in doing so you will prevent the AEG from being used in CQB sites which have semi-auto only rules.
The adjustable HOP-up of the MP40 is controlled via a Sliding Lever, and is hidden behind the mock bolt carrier inside the ejection port. To access the HOP-up adjuster, all you need to do is hold the charging handle back, and release it once you have completed your adjustment.
The lower body of the MP40 is constructed from polymer, which is perfectly appropriate to match the real MP40 with its Bakelite polymer lower receiver. Obviously, the modern polymers used on the AGM MP40 are a lot stronger than bakelite, but the MP40 is available in Bakelike colouration if you want a replica that is more realistic for early MP40 SMGs. Despite its legacy design, the grip and handguard of the MP40 are comfortable and well designed, with linear gripping texture across either side of the pistol grip, and at the front of the lower receiver in the "hand guard" area.
To access the battery compartment of the MP40, the upper receiver will need to be removed. Thankfully, this is quite simple, requiring only that you remove the magazine, pull the disk on the bottom of the handguard down and hold it in place while you slide the upper forwards and off the gun. With this done, the MP40 will be in two halves, with a mini-Tamiya connector appearing at the rear of the gearbox, in the lower receiver.
The battery compartment is in the lower, behind the gearbox and fits a 7.4V 1300mAh LiPo battery in nun-chuck configuration neatly, though the AEG is designed for 8.4V 1600mAh NiMH block batteries. To put the gun together again, take care not to trap any wiring between the receiver halves, pull and hold the disk on the handguard out, slide the upper and lower back together and release the disk to lock everything in place.
The real MP40 has been seen in the hands of various combatants throughout modern history. This means if you are planning a rebel/OPFOR loadout the MP40 would be a good choice if you want to lean into the realism aspect, as these SMGs are still regularly seen in combat zones around the world. If you are more of a reenactor, the MP40 would be a great choice for a German WW2 themed loadout, but would also work well for French Resistance and British SOE as MP40s were regularly used by these groups due to their common 9x19mm pistol ammunition and prevalence amongst German occupying forces.
Unsurprisingly for a replica of a WW2-era firearm, this Airsoft gun's appearance can be described as 'vintage' but is still seen in the hands of rebel groups in conflict zones around the world, so could make a nice unique "OPFOR" or "freedom fighter" primary weapon for an interesting loadout. Drop your M4s and AKs, it's time to do things old school. Whether you're a reenactor or just a history fan, this is a brilliant addition to any Airsofter's arsenal.

Joule Charts
Special Instructions
These table can be used as a reference to see if the BB weight you are using will be over acceptable Joulage limits at some Airsoft Sites in the UK. To check if the weight can be used chrono your weapon using the BB you intend to use, and then compare it to the chart.
FPS, Power and Joule Limits can vary from site to site, so please get in touch with where you're going to play with in advance to avoid disappointment.
Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, with a 350fps limit for Automatic Replicas, 400fps for Semi-Automatic Replicas, and 500fps for Bolt Action Replicas.
Tap the tabs below to open the relevant chart for your replica.
This table should be used for reference, and cannot be used to check one weight against another, as the weight of the BB affects the power.
In order to check if the BB can be used with your replica chronograph using the weight you wish to use and then compare it against the table.
Every time you change weights you will need to re-chrono and check against the table. This is not a conversion chart between weights.
Suggested limits are based on Joulage Limit rules used Halo Mill: Proving Grounds, and is the equivalent of 350fps, using 0.20g BB resulting in an upper limit of 1.14j.
