RAVEN R9A4 GBB Pistol

If you love the old B9, veteran of innumerable conflicts and star of the show in Die Hard, the R9A4 is the modern pistol you need. This full metal GBB pistol is a detailed replica of the latest B9 variant, sporting light-enhancing iron sights, a refined grip angle with V-Tec style grips, forward slide serrations, a threaded outer barrel and an optics-ready slide, bringing the 1990s veteran sidearm into line with present-day pistol platforms. 

As with the other pistols of the RAVEN R9 series, the R9A4 boasts a 6.03mm tightbore inner barrel for improved accuracy and an ambidextrous safety/de-cocker on the rear of the slide, allowing you to carry with the hammer down and fire your first shot without fumbling with a safety catch. If you want a modern sidearm that isn't a Glock, Hi-Capa or Sig, the R9A4 is the way to go!

Starting at the tip of the outer barrel we can find 14mm CCW threads, a nice improvement over other R9 variants as you won't need an adapter to mount a tracer or suppressor. This is a big part of the latest B9 look and includes a knurled thread protector which matches the real thing perfectly. The alloy outer barrel is visible through to the chamber area on the R9A4, appropriately matching the look of the real B9 pistol, and helping keep the slide weight to a minimum for improved gas efficiency.

The sights of the R9A4 are light-enhancing sights with green inserts, replacing the high-vis white dot iron sights of the original to provide faster target acquisition in low-light situations. The sights can be found atop the slide, and are standard combat-style non-adjustable sights for added rigidity. At the rear of the slide, we can find a pair of inserts held in place by Allen bolts. Removing these allows you to add an R9A4 red dot mount plate (available separately) and fix a micro red dot sight. 

The slide of the R9A4 also features angled serrations on either side to promote a good grip when manipulating the pistol and adds forward slide serrations to the B9 design for more options when it comes to manipulating the slide in poor weather or when wearing gloves.

Being a replica of the latest B9, the R9A4 has an enhanced 20mm Picatinny frame rail with 3 slots instead of the usual one. This means you have a few more options when it comes to mounting a tactical flashlight or laser aiming module where you need it. The trigger guard also features the most recent shape, with a flat front face for compatibility with modern pistol flashlights like the X300 and X400. 

The controls are found on the left side of the pistol, ideally set up for a right-handed user but useable by a lefty with some practice. The magazine release is a simple button type but is larger than the original B9, present where the trigger guard meets the frame. The mag release provides a familiar and position for anyone who has used practically any American pistol out there and is enlarged so it is easy to find but protected from accidental presses thanks to being recessed into the grip. The slide release can be found just above and features an extended textured section to ensure it is within reach of the shooter's thumb and that poor weather conditions do not affect how quickly the pistol can be operated.

Ahead of the slide release, we can see the disassembly catch, which can be used to remove the slide of the pistol for lubrication, and for adjustment of the R9A4's HOP-up unit. To release the slide, first cock the pistol, and remove the magazine. Next, press the button just below the disassembly catch on the right side, and rotate the disassembly catch on the left side downwards, after which the slide will come off. The gear HOP-up adjuster can be found on the bottom of the outer barrel, allowing you to tune the R9A4 for your chosen ammo weight, looking for the flattest possible trajectory.

The ambidextrous safety/de-cocker is located on the rear of the slide and is accessible from either side with the thumb while maintaining a firing grip. This control provides two functions; when the pistol is cocked it can be used to safely lower the hammer (de-cocking) and when the pistol is not cocked it functions as a trigger disconnect safety. When the pistol is ready to fire, a red enamel dot will be visible on each side of the pistol, just below the safety. When the pistol is in "safe" mode, the red dot will be covered by the safety catch itself.

The grip panels of the R9A4 replicate the latest V-tec style B9 grips, featuring a slimmer profile than the legacy B9 and diamond checkering to ensure a perfect grip. Additional texture is present on the front and rear, machined into the frame. At the bottom of the grip, we are treated to a lanyard loop, which can accept any pistol lanyard and prevent the pistol from hitting the floor if it takes a tumble from your holster.

Performance-wise, the R9A4 sports a 6.03mm tight bore inner barrel and adjustable HOP-up, providing ample range and accuracy for a sidearm and has an awesome immersive firing experience with its full metal slide and realistic operation. Its full metal construction is also a bonus, giving the pistol the appropriate heft and cold feel to mimic the real thing.
