When you think of shotguns, we know this is everyone's first thought. An iconic silhouette with a decorated history, being seen all around the world since its production first began all the way back in 1951. This popularity has carried over to the world of Airsoft and is now a CQB skirmishers best friend. Nothing quite beats the rush of running around close quarters and blasting foes as soon as they turn the corner. The 3-round pump action means even if you can't aim, there's still a chance that the shotgun spread will result in a hit!

This shotgun may look familiar, but that's because it's actually a Gen. 2 version of the Golden Eagle Type 870 M8870. This new version looks almost identical except the gas port at the rear of the stock has changed due to issues with a leaky detachable gas tank and unreliable o-rings. The version 2 shotgun has scrapped the removable gas tank and instead installed a fixed gas tank within the stock that can be filled up through the rubber butt plate.

Treat yourself to some CQB satisfaction with the Golden Eagle Type 870 M8870 Tactical Gas Shotgun V2 and enjoy the satisfaction of pump action mixed with a 3-shot spread.

Description

A modernised, more tactical variant of the Remington model 870, this shotgun has an instantly recognisable silhouette. It has been seen everywhere, police forces across the world, movies, shooting sports and video games. This shotgun initially gained a reputation for its satisfying pump action, ergonomic grip and devastating effectiveness when used. Since then it has maintained its elite reputation and continues to be a fine choice of shotgun with multiple purposes. This Airsoft replica 870 features a full metal construction giving it a hefty and realistic weight, the black polymer stock and pump handle have adherent surfaces, ensuring a solid grip whilst out on the battlefield.

Starting at the front of the Golden Eagle Type 870 M8870 Tactical Gas Shotgun V2 we are met with a wide outer barrel. This is typical shotgun fashion,  where the wide barrel is required for fitting the shotgun slugs in. This isn't necessary for an Airsoft shotgun due to the small nature of a BB, but staying true to the Remington model 870 silhouette gains bonus points from realism fans and of course, it looks awesome!

Sitting atop the barrel we find the front iron sight post. It is a small piece of raised metal with a piece of fibre optic encased within it. Whilst it may not be anything special it serves its purpose well and allows you to quickly line up a shot to blast any opponents who come your way.

Moving downwards from the front sight post, we find the magazine tube. This is functional and the cap can be twisted off to store up to two spare magazine shells. The magazine tube is spring loaded so just be ready to catch your shells before they pop out and end up on the floor! Attached to the cap there is a sling point which pairs well with the other sling point found on the bottom of the stock, they are ambidextrous and allow slings to be attached on either side of the gun.

Attached to the magazine tube we find the pump action handle. This black polymer piece has ridges on to ensure a sturdy grip when racking the Type 870 M8870. When racked back, it makes a satisfying clicking noise, which is also heard when pushing it back into place and arming the shotgun. It runs on alloy cocking arms just below the outer barrel and is surprisingly easy to rack for such a menacing platform. The fast pump action can easily put a huge number of rounds down range in a short timeframe, only limited by the 30-second shell capacity.

Next, we come to the receiver, it is constructed from one piece of alloy and has a black finish applied to it. On the left side, we find the mock ejection port, which would shoot out spent shells if this were the real thing. It does serve a purpose though, when the pump handle is racked back, the ejection port slightly opens and you have access to the fire controls. Having the switch pushed towards the stock, the shotgun is in 3-rnd mode and when pushed towards the barrel the shotgun is in 6-rnd mode.

On top of the receiver, we find a short section of Picatinny rail with a ghost ring-style iron sight at the rear of it. This section is perfect for mounting a red dot-style sight. Or, if you are slightly unhinged and feel like making a statement, go crazy and mount a 3-9X50 Rifle Scope and try your best to snipe some opponents across the battlefield!

Underneath the receiver, we find the magazine well. By magazine we mean, 30rnd capacity shotgun shell. It's definitely not a conventional magazine but it is more than appropriate for this Type 870 M8870. The shells are loaded using a speedloader and then the shell is inserted into the shotgun. Every time the shotgun is cocked, 3 or 6 BBs are loaded from the shell into the gun, ready to be fired. To release the shell after all the BBs are spent, push all the way back on the tab found on the front of the trigger guard.

This shotgun features a safety control which is found at the rear of the trigger guard. It is a push-through style button. When it protrudes out the right side of the trigger guard the gun is on safe and the trigger locks, when it sticks out the left side, it is not on safe and can be fired if it is armed.

Moving backwards we find the grip and the stock combined into one piece of continuing polymer. The grip features a textured design and an ergonomic design. It sits well in your hands and feels comfortable in a variety of shooting stances. Moving on to the stock, it features a long design that nestles into the shoulder to allow for easy aiming and swapping between targets. The Rubber butt stock is extremely grippy and will stay secure even with the uneven surfaces of battle amour and rigs.

At the rear of the stock, we also find the gas valve. This is where the gas tank is filled up, unlike the original Golden Eagle Type 870 M8870, the gas tank is not removable and swappable. This is due to the old removable-style gas tank leaking gas from inferior O-rings and a worse seal. This Gen.2 version has changed the gas tank concept to one that is fixed and now it no longer leaks so easily.

If you're looking for a reliable shotgun to wreak havoc in the CQB arena, or maybe you fancy challenging yourself in your next outdoor skirmish, the Golden Eagle Type 870 M8870 Tactical Gas Shotgun V2 is the platform for you. An iconic look, a satisfying pump action and a Picatinny rail section, this shotgun seriously has it all!
