If you have seen the impressive performance of the EU series of GBB pistols, but you have also seen the way they look and you aren't a fan, Double Eagle has something you may appreciate! The Double Eagle JDG Polymer 80 PFS9 GBB pistol takes the superb EU series internals and puts them inside a slide and frame with a dynamic modern look. The PFS9 sports an aggressively textured pistol grip, a 20mm Picatinny frame rail, an optics ready slide and an 11mm CW threaded barrel, making the pistol ready for any task you set for it. This GBB pistol is based on the real PFS9 which is quickly rising in popularity in the US, and its redesigned "Polymer 80" frame.

Description

The real Janus Division Group PFS9 and Polymer 80 frame

The PSF9 originated following the popularity of the JDG Polymer 80 frame, an aftermarket frame kit for the widely used Glock 17 handgun.

The design of the Polymer 80 frame was intended to incorporate many modifications and aftermarket upgrades users would usually add to their Glock 17 themselves and make running an upgraded Glock more accessible. The Polymer 80 frame was appreciated for its more modern ergonomics, redesigned trigger guard with an undercut to help control recoil, and a full NATO spec 20mm Picatinny rail on its frame.

The PSF9 is JDG's complete pistol offering, comprising the Polymer 80 frame and an upgraded slide with features users have been demanding for years; including forward slide serrations, optics ready functionality and a reprofiled front end to aid in re-holstering the handgun.

The Double Eagle Janus Division Group Polymer 80 PFS9 GBB Pistol

Double Eagle has really been reaching for the stars recently, and ever since their M9xx series of Falcon EFCS AEGs was released we have realised these guys are hot on the heels of the high-end manufacturers and have left behind their old life as a producer of budget Airsoft guns.

The Double Eagle JDG PFS9 is no different and sports fantastic build quality to the extent that Double Eagle has secured an official licence from JDG themselves, boasting a stamp of approval from the manufacturers of the real pistol. The Double Eagle PFS9 provides the same snappy and immersive firing experience we have come to expect from an EU series based GBB pistol design, but with a fresh new aggressive look that makes it appear to be an entirely different pistol than the comparatively mild-mannered EU17!

Starting at the front, we can see 11mm CW female threads at the tip of the alloy outer barrel which allows a tracer unit or suppressor to be mounted with the addition of an 11mm CW female to 14mm CCW male thread adapter. The provision of female threads opposed to directly mounting 14mm CCW male threads on the barrel gives you the option of running the PFS9 as either a standard "service pistol" style sidearm or as a primary weapon for some CQB work.

The slide of the PFS9 is considerably reprofiled when compared to a standard EU17 slide, and has deep, swept-back serrations at both the front and the rear, offering you plenty of options when it comes to how you manipulate the side of the pistol. These serrations offer unparalleled grip and allow this pistol to be used effectively in poor weather conditions, or when the user is wearing full finger gloves. The slide also features a weight-reducing groove that runs from the front end of the slide all the way back to just aft of the mock extractor, adding visual interest and matching perfectly with the slide of the real PFS9. The front end of the slide also includes bevel cuts to aid in easily re-holstering the PFS9, allowing you to find the holster easily every time, even with hands shaking from adrenaline!

The slide also features licenced JDG trademarks, with "P80" engraved in bold lettering just ahead of the mock ejection port. We can also find another "P80" engraved into the slide backplate in a stylish modern font. The ejection port itself is slightly reprofiled when compared to an EU17, offering improved reliability in the real firearm and adding to the unique style of this Airsoft GBB pistol. On the right side of the slide, to the rear of the ejection port, we can see the mock extractor which is highly detailed and matches the real PFS9 extractor perfectly. This part is a separate piece for added realism but serves no function on a GBB pistol, though details like this mark out the PFS9 as an officially licenced product, demonstrating the attention to detail that is necessary for a perfect GBB replica.

At the rear of the slide, just above the rear serrations, we can find one of the nicest features of this GBB pistol; its optic mounting apparatus. This comes in the form of a protective plate concealing threaded screw holes for a slide-mounted red dot sight beneath. We can confirm that the optic mounting holes beneath line up with our favourite red dot for pistol mounting, the Vector Optics Frenzy-X, and may fit others though we have not yet had the opportunity to test that. Providing this feature out of the box is very generous of Double Eagle, and doubtless, many aftermarket manufacturers are annoyed that you won't have to buy a new slide if you decide to go all 21st century and add a reflex optic to the PFS9!

Moving on to the frame of the PFS9, known as the Polymer 80 frame, we can see if we squint that this has a similar shape to the original EU17, with the controls located in the same places, allowing an EU user to pick up the PFS9 and shoot as well as they did with the old gun! At the front of the frame we can find one of the notable improvements of the PFS9, its 20mm Picatinny frame rail, sporting full profile teeth to guarantee a secure fit should you choose to mount a laser, flashlight or any other accessory to your PFS9. Inside this rail, we can find an aluminium serial number plate which is recessed into the frame between the teeth of the rail. The magazine release can be found on the left side of the frame and includes deep checkering on its surface to ensure it gets pressed when it needs to. The frame is also reprofiled in this area to offer fast access to the magazine release and allow those with smaller hands to use the control effectively. The slide release can be found just above, between the frame and slide, and is a low profile design matching the original EU17 and real PSF9, and is constructed from steel to provide reliable slide locking in the long term. Its surface also features texture to ensure this control doesn't become useless in wet weather.

The trigger guard of the PFS9 is one of its most radical changes and has been completely reshaped when compared with the original EU17 trigger guard. This new trigger guard retains the flat front face, allowing for modern shooting grip techniques such as the "European grip" but has a more defined section for your finger to rest and a shelf at the bottom to prevent your finger from slipping. The sides of the trigger guard have a subtle indentation, ideally positioned to allow the trigger finger somewhere safe and comfortable to rest between strings of fire. The underside of the trigger guard is undercut for both the strong hand and the support hand, allowing you to take a higher hold on the pistol and more effectively control the recoil forces of firing. When holding the PFS9 with both hands, everything just seems to fit, and there is no messing around to get a comfortable hold like when holding a EU17.

These improved ergonomic qualities continue on the grip of the pistol, which is furnished with aggressive crackle texture on either side and on the front and back straps. The rear of the frame also has a slightly extended beavertail section, preventing the web of your hand from being pinched as the slide cycles. At the bottom of the grip, we can see "P80" recessed into either side, staying faithful to the look of the original pistol as we would expect from a fully licensed product. The right side of the grip also includes an ID window, with "PF940V3" and "POLYMER80, INC, DAYTON, NV", appropriately matching the real PFS9. The combination of the thoughtful changes to the trigger guard with the highly effective texture on the grip gives the PFS9 the superb gripping qualities of a custom stippled EU or Hi-capa, without having to either pay someone or break out the soldering iron yourself! This pistol sticks to your hands like glue, whilst still remaining comfortable enough to use with or without gloves with no fear of grating your baby-soft hands!

The trigger of the PFS9 matches the EU17 in function, with its dual-stage safety system intended to prevent the pistol from being fired should the trigger get snagged on gear, but has a new flat shape to promote easier rapid firing. This only adds to the menacing look of the PFS9, and combines well with its crisp trigger feel and audible and tactile reset. With some practice, you will be able to run this pistol as fast as a Hi-capa with no problem as the "wall" is clearly defined and easy to rest on for a single action-like trigger performance. This is underlined by another treat provided by Double Eagle, an extended magazine holding a respectable 30 rounds, including an enlarged gas reservoir! This almost guarantees that no matter how quickly you fire the PFS9, it stands a much better chance than most of finishing the whole 30 rounds.

The PFS9 is the ideal solution for the skirmisher looking for a sidearm with modern ergonomics and simple and fast controls but not looking to harm their eyes with the blocky EU series look. Step away from that Hi-capa, leave the 100 year old design to die and join us in 2022 with the ultra-modern, best of both worlds PSF9! It also takes EU series magazines 😍
