What is MOLLE?
MOLLE stands for MOdular Lightweight Load-bearing Equipment and is the current standard for tactical vests, both for Airsoft and in the real world. The MOLLE system is a pouch attachment method making use of PALS (Pouch Attachment Ladder System) loops, a system of 1-inch (25mm) wide webbing sewn in a ladder configuration with 1.4-1.6 inches (35-40mm) between each vertical sewn line. PALS loops are generally laid out in rows with 1 inch (25mm) spacing between each row.
The exact specification of PALS is 25mm webbing sewn in 38mm increments, but in practice increments of 35-40mm are generally considered to be MOLLE compatible. PALS webbing interfaces with MOLLE hooks on pouches, holsters, back panels and other accessories, allowing you to mount the pouches you need exactly where you need them on your rig.

How do I mount MOLLE pouches?
MOLLE can actually be quite deceiving when it comes to mounting pouches as it is entirely possible to mount the pouches incorrectly which can result in them coming loose or being pulled off at an inopportune moment.
What are known as MOLLE hooks can be found on the rear of all MOLLE pouches, as shown in the image to the left. These need to be woven through both the PALS loops and the loops on the rear of the pouch before the securing feature (in this case, a snap button) is closed.
This process is difficult to outline in mere text, so we have put together a step by step with images so you can get your pouches mounted firmly and avoid the embarrassment of going for a reload and ripping the pouch straight off your rig!
Step 1 - Position the pouch where you require it
Pay attention to the spacing around the pouch and the number of PALS loops you require to fit the pouch.
It is always wise to consider which other pouches you want to mount, and where you need them before mounting your first pouch. When you have decided where you want your first pouch to be mounted, you can move on to step 2.
Step 2 - Thread the MOLLE hooks through the first row of PALS webbing
With your pouch position decided you can now start to weave the MOLLE hooks through your PALS webbing.
Some MOLLE pouches mount via a single hook, others use several. Weave all of the MOLLE hooks on your pouch through the first row of PALS loops, and when you are ready, move on to step 3.
Step 3 - Weave the MOLLE hooks through the webbing on the rear of the pouch
This is the part many Airsofters miss!
Without the MOLLE hooks woven through both the PALS loops on your rig and the webbing loops on the rear of the pouch, you run the risk of it being disconnected when snagged or when you pull items from the pouch with gusto.
Step 4 - Repeat the process until your MOLLE hooks are fully woven through
If you have mastered steps 2 & 3, this will be easy, though it may be a bit fiddly!
Continue to weave the MOLLE hooks through both the PALS loops on your rig and the webbing on the rear of the pouch, and when you get to the bottom of your hooks, pull them tight. With this done, secure the snap buttons and you are ready to rock and roll!
